Well she's #179 in the race with a mere 258 points accumulated the whole calendar year. This is pretty indicative where she'll land at the end of the season, give or take, if she keeps losing 1R in the qualifications of every tournament she may enter between now and then.

I think the cut off to enter the lowest WTA qualifying tournament is around 260s. Above that, it is all ITF tournaments, which is minimum ranking points until you get to semis. I feel for Bouchard. Agassi came back so Bouchard has a chance in 2020! I be happy to see her in the low 100s.

She'll always have that win over Sharapova post- drug ban to help her sleep at night ;)

She’ll play Sevastova in USO R1, not a good matchup and the highest ranked player she has played in many months

I thought she lost in qualifying.... or was that for a different tournament?

Did they give her a wildcard??!

Police arrested a man who pretended to be brother Eugenie Bouchard. For almost three months, he enjoyed the luxury of free at the 1 South Beach Hotel, Miami and performed for all payments via "sister" Eugenie. He ended up in a police cell, cause damage of around $ 42,000.
The Hotel should have insurance to cover the lost and refund Bouchard’s account! Boy, that living large on somebody’s dime for sure!

for some reason US Open decides on main draw participants wayyyy in advance of the tournament, so she was known to be a main draw participant in US Open many weeks ago when she was ranked in the 90s and that list came out - quite lucky for her, as she would have been in qualifying if they'd used the next week's rankings

BOATchard escaped a bagel there. Sevastova was serving for 5-0 but mugged it up a bit.
Ya, watching this on TV right now, and Bouchard looks like she's fumbling around like a newbie junior, in the exact same style from the past few years. How can a player on the professional tour continue NOT improving?? In other words, WHY can't Bouchard get better?? So many shots, footwork, movement, etc, look soooo weak & uncoordinated for that level! Oh well, at least Bouchard has millions $$$$ save up for a nice, comfy, life.

Two games away from ending this week ranked in the 140s - you can only prop up a joke of a tennis player for so long with a zillion wildcards
(edited for clarity: the US Open wasn't a WC, but her fall off the WTA map has been significantly slowed by receiving WCs to the Toronto/Montreal Masters every year, and scattered other WCs to tournaments that see promo-material value in her brief presence at their events)

"Hi. My name is EuGOATeinie BOATchard. I have not had a win over a top 100 player since 2018... and last time I won a match at all, was in mid february! That´s over half a year ago guuuuuuyyyzz..."

Sevastova seeded #11 took out Bouchard (ranked 119); 6-3, 6-3 in 1st round of the 2019 U.S. Open. Bouchard lost in the qualifying but got a WC into the main draw anyways! Another tough lost for Bouchard among a long stretch of 1st round match losses. Sevastova is another string of seeded players that Bouchard has to face in 1st round matches! Bouchard needs to get her ranking up by beating one or two seeded player or end up going to the ITF circuit!

Hey Harry get off the crack she didn't get a wildcard she got direct entry which is even more ridiculous. This girl needs to either disappear or put in the leg work on the challenger tour. Why the US open gave her direct entry is beyond me.

All these posts contradict each other.
Because she was top 100 at the entry cutoff. They didn’t “give” her direct entry.
Are you saying Bouchard was 19+ Points Higher in the Rankings right before the deadline? What was her ranking?

I am still VERY VERY confused. How is a WTA pro that gets to the Finals of 2 slams, go from that to basically what amounts to 100 ranked player in reality..................... This still doesn't make sense to me. You don't get to 2 slam finals by getting lucky

She made 2 semis and 1 final all in the same year. Likely a combination of nobody knew her game yet, particularly since they were 3 different surfaces, and there is luck involved. Essentially was on a 6-month hot streak.

So in reality, she is nothing more than 70-100 ranked player ?? and she is doomed to never win any tournaments in WTA ? this is worse than Anna Kornikova. at least she was 10-20 ranked most of the time and even was top 10 at times.

It's not just the US Open. All tournaments work like this. Players do not have access to magical transportation means. They have to make travel plans and reservations like us mere mortals. When they find out they have to qualify for a tournament, they will plan their schedule accordingly so they can make it there earlier. If they took the rankings a week or two before a tournament, then what if a player failed to defend points and was then prevented from playing the tournament she had planned the following week? Or, you suddenly make a lot of points so a week or two later, you decide to completely alter your schedule to compete in a bigger tournament, thus knocking out players who thought they would get in? It would be unmanageable for everyone.

It the end, it's fair anyway. When your ranking goes up, it takes 6 weeks for you to benefit from it, and when you go down, nothing changes for you for 6 weeks.

BTW for the others who were wondering, WCs that don't translate into main draw wins won't help a player at all.

I don’t think Genie is a bad tennis player. Yes she’s been on a horrible losing streak, but I think she takes her tennis very seriously. All we see is the Instagram stuff and it comes across as her caring more about beauty and swimsuits, but she’s does train and works hard. She just doesn’t seem to have that key factor to take her to the next level on the tour.

Other than I think you are being generous with 70-100 ranking.... I think you've pretty much summed it up.

She either has very little game, and just had some things go her way, or she enjoys the limelight more and once she got a "platform" there she went.

I have said in the past though, much as I dislike many things about her, I do think she may have been on track for something before the concussion. Who knows what that did to her.

She needs a bigger serve that is well placed. I think that could change her game and make it better.

well, 1 WTA ranking point and more than $8,000 in prize money from Toronto, for example, plus of course the opportunity for more points and prize money if you translate even the occasional WC into a win

not sure i'd say they don't help a player "at all"

Biochemistry did that to her. That also took her to her peak. Quite chaotic. You need to be square (a.k.a. in balance): Fedr.

Biochemistry..... are you implying what I think you are? I'm not one of these "don't you dare speculate" people. I'm never surprised when someone is caught. Just making sure I'm understanding.

Or is the biochemistry you're referring to something more carnal....

Bouchard losses are all in her head! She has an aggressive game but end up making many UE at critical spots in the match. Plus, she is usually her matches are now either three set losses or just a break in two set matches for the most part! So that means she is good enough to challenge her opponents but cannot finish them off. It is very tough psychologically when you end up in a close match like 4-6, 6-7 and never get the win! A couple of 1,2 along the way but mostly very close matches for the most part!

As for the 1 point and $8,000, I was taking for granted that we were referring to a player like Bouchard. 1 point and $8,000 doesn't make any difference for her at this point. Of course, to a player at another stage in their career, it could.

Sorry but you don't have very little game when you are top 200 in the world. I know a couple of gals who have "game", dominated D1 college tennis, and are struggling to make it on tour ranked below 500. It is incredibly competitive at the pro level and all of these girls have "game", just not at the level of top 50.

My reading comprehension is just fine, I responded to exactly what you said

Players get prize money from WCs whether they win their first match or not - and quite a bit of prize money for those that get a WC to an even bigger tournament like the US Open, for example

So yes they are of value, win or lose, though obviously of much greater value when you win

Bouchard is not a billionaire, and she’s entering the stage of her career where she’s hemorrhaging money and feeling the need to plug all sorts of random low-level **** on social media (like car seat covers some months back) - I think she’s happy to have the free pay checks

Someone put this thread to death already.

Not one of you would post on this manJaw's thread if she was 50 lbs heavier
130 pages dedicated to a 200 ranked person who should be a nobody.

What a sad veil of horny jobbers.
There are websites for this sort of fixation that are much more rewarding than InstaVanity

Says the guy who is a low level adult tennis player, has never played high level competitive tennis in his life, and posts all sorts of idiotic threads like “here are my 5 brilliant observations after watching ATP pros up close - they don’t hit hard, they make a zillion errors, etc”

People like me see and ignore your ten idiotic threads a day, I trust you can ignore one thread that doesn’t interest you :)

LOL ... you may have read it somewhere (I did too) but it's just a load of crap posted on the Internet which ignorant people take to the face value as true info without using their own brain.

Her family, while apparently well off, is nowhere as rich as some think it is. Last year her dad had to sell the family home (the house Bouchard grew in) to pay $850K CAD to the Government in back taxes which makes you wonder why would someone truly rich would have to resort to such an extreme measure, even if it's not the only property owned, to pay such an amount. They would simply write a cheque for the amount owned or would not try to skim the Gov on taxes in the first place.
Also, you wonder why his supposedly rich daughter did not spare the change to save him the trouble and simply write him a cheque to pay his debt; $850K is no big deal if someone's net worth is in multi-millions as believed.

Here it is an article on the matter from a local news paper (in French): https://www.journaldequebec.com/2018/05/05/le-fisc-est-aux-trousses-du-pere-deugenie-bouchard

This is in addition to another failed tax avoidance scheme he pulled off to finance his daughter's tennis career (why do that for $80K if you are really rich?) on which CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) called him off few years ago. He lost the case in the Tax Court as well (see article below for some details).

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/rep...ys-double-fault-in-tax-court/article19500417/

There is however an wealthy individual in Quebec, which is one the Canadian billionaires, named Alain Bouchard (worth about 3.9 Billion USD according to Forbes 2019) which was probably used as a hook for the fake news. However he is not related to Bouchard and he has 4 children on his own but none of them named Eugenie ;).

While Bouchard is certainly not poor (multi millionaire for sure) she is nowhere as rich as some people here think she is.

At a young age in her mid twenties, Bouchard is already a multi-millionaire! I say she doing pretty well in the game of life!
