Bianca Andreescu: under the radar but not for long!

Not sure what's going on with Andreescu. She was complaining of having issues moving her legs and having no power in her arms last week, only to take an MTO and then retire 2 games from the end. It sounded more like fatigue than any acute injury.

Then she's playing matches 3 days later in a different part of the world. I'm not sure if she was faking it or just being wildly optimistic expecting to be fit and ready again in such a short space of time.

Maybe she thought she was too good to actually lose to her opponent.

Hopefully she can make it back this year. Crazy that she was asking the umpire about playing in the rain concerned with getting hurt and it still happened later.
This year? She should be back for the French. I mean, citing "torn ligaments" is fairly vague, as we don't know which ones they are, and how badly they are torn, but unless it's really bad, the recovery time should be relatively brief.

Torn ankle ligaments are not an easy recovery. Being a stabilizing element means there's also the other factor of BOTH legs (and her body) not getting much exercise during the recovery period. Playing on clay won't be easy, and Andrescu will have to be fully healed and fit after such a traumatic injury. I think it could take months, not weeks. Only she and her doctors will know for sure.

Well, it completely depends on how badly they are torn, and reading between the lines of her post, they aren't the most severe tears possible. And there are tons of exercises you can do for the rest of your body while an ankle is healing.

Agree. They can take months to fully recover.

Well let me ask you folks which is worse, torn ankle ligaments or a badly sprained ankle?
I don't really know which I have suffered through each time I had my ankle injuries since I never got
them X-rayed. I simply assumed I had badly sprained ankles each time.

I can tell you this (as someone who has injured each ankle badly more than half a dozen times)
it can take up to five years or more before they heal well enough to play on.
Granted on that five year hiatus, I didn't do a bloody thing for treatment (no ice) for at least 24
hours after injury (stupid me).

So out of curiosity, which is worse torn ligaments or a sprain?
As I said some of my sprains could well have been torn ligaments (if that's worse).

A severe sprain is brutal. I did follow the recovery plan (ice, rest etc.) and still had swelling for two months. It took me another months after that to fully recover.

Yes truly brutal. I forgot to add that I am decades older than Bianca and so recovery times are much longer the older you get.

I get that professional footballers (soccer players in the USA) often get rushed back from injury to some extent, but it seems like pro tennis players take twice as long to heal sometimes.

She's wearing those shorts again... and they are truly magnetic. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I simply cannot take my eyes off of them. She's amazing.

Sad to say but the best days of Andreescu are far behind her now even though she looks in better shape than when she won the US Open in 2019.

It looks like she'll fall into the Bouchard rank if things don't change.

I don't know. I think she just needs to get her head together, and eventually she will manage that. He opponent today has a big serve, and that made the difference.

I think Andreescu had/has more potential than Bouchard. She's simply a better tennis player in every way. (And personally, I also think Andreescu is better looking).

This is correct. Although Bouchard has had a few more deep runs in Slams (a QF, 2 SF, and a final), she's won only one career title, which was a 250 level. In contrast, Andreescu has the 2019 US Open title to go along with 2 Masters 1000 titles in a much shorter span of time. If not for the pandemic, some ill-timed injuries, and her subsequent mental letdown after the stellar 2019 season, Bianca would have even better career stats by now. At only 23 years old (her birthday is today), she's young enough and talented enough to still compete for big titles for many years to come. An early loss on grass, which might be her worst surface, to a big server is nothing to be concerned about.

This young lady has worked unbelievably hard since age 14, She was leading for years the team during physical training. I saw a lot of that here in Montreal. It might be she's reached the limits set up by her body type.
