Nadal withdraws from Paris !

I really can't believe it. Again Djokovic gets the YE#1 thanks to Nadal's injuries. I guess Nadal should just end all of his seasons after the USO. Terrible year in general, despite winning 2 slams.

I vey much doubt it. This seems to be a strategic withdrawal with Rafa having done enough to secure the #1 spot on Monday and can now spend the next week getting in as best shape as possible for a more serious attempt on a maiden WTF title as well as securing the Y/E #1 spot!

Rafa would almost have to win every RR match or make finals if Novak makes it to final unscathed.

I know you're just joking, but the real answer for 2017 was probably because he was desperate to prove he could do it one last time after being written off. That same motivation didn't exist in 18/19.
Yes, and he is also 2 years older and he has seen the effect of pushing himself that hard in 2017. 2018 was a decent year for him, but it was riddled with injuries, including retirements at 2 of the slams. He only played 49 matches, as opposed to 80 in 2017. I guess he decided that playing so many matches was a bad policy. I was joking in that I don't think Rafa would rather block Federer than Novak. However, that doesn't stop it being frustrating as a Fed fan, seeing him lose in his likely last viable attempt at getting a YE#1!

Lol no. Terrible years are years like 2015-2016 or even 2012/2014 when he basically missed half of a season.

It is frustrating .. Fed has to do the work himself while Nadal helps out Novak 2 consecutive years now.

Damn, getting injured after so much rest and only 3 straight set victories. It just shows injuries sometimes are not related to overplaying/playing style.

Didn't he miss half of the season this year? He withdrew in IW, Miami, Cincinnati, Shanghai, Paris, WTF. Played his worst slam final in AO, played his absolute worst tennis in Monte Carlo and Madrid. Was atrocious in Montreal as well despite winning it. So in general 3 good tournaments during the year. And no YE#1.

At least it’s not Federer who gets the YE#1. :giggle:

Rafa should call it a season and rest till ATP Cup.
Nadal could get 5th YE#1 and all big 3 would be equal in that stat. Now Djokovic will have 6, Federer 5 and Nadal 4. Another GREAT reason for haters to talk about Nadal being clearly the worst player between the 3.

Sorry. But no one will call a multiple-slam winning year a terrible one, except maybe you. :)

Call it whatever you want. There is one fact: Djokovic is the number 1 and the best player in the world. Nadal isn't. Nadal can only keep breaking his own record of weeks at #2.

I am staying positive. Haters will always find a way to downplay him, lol. The only thing we should care as of now is winning Slemz, that’s where the greatness is decided, not in Shanghais and Miamis. And in that regard the season was bery bery good.

He didn't "miss" IW and Paris. He played them and reached SFs, THEN he withdrew. And he hasn't withdrawn from YECs yet. Dude you are a mess.

He is going to withdraw from WTF 100%. No doubt about that. EVERY TIME when Nadal says he is injured in Paris he withdraws from WTF.

"While the battle for the coveted year-end No. 1 is still up for grabs, one thing is certain. Despite his withdrawal, Nadal will replace Djokovic as World No. 1 on Monday when he begins his 197th week in the top spot."

Alright, he will add 2 weeks at number 1. Wow, just WOOOOOOOOOOOW. Still he will have less than 200 of them.

That place is not real news. Junk artists.

Yeah but you type in Nadal on Google and it comes up as the first 2-3 results, people are bound to click on it and read it and probably believe it. I mean Nadal took his beating like a man at AO 2019 and could've pulled out if he was scared and that's a bigger hunting ground for Novak too vs Paris, but didn't.

Another terrible break for Rafa. He should call it a season and a good one at that. Nothing left to be gained if he's not 100%

You mean the part where he beats Djokovic in the final or the part where he then does **** all in 2020?
Not doing **** all in 2020 is obvious. It's a given. It comes with being a next genner who won a big tournament.

I feel most tennis articles are just copied from others. Very tabloid articles in the sport of tennis.

Why do you hate Federer ? It is actually Novak who has beaten Rafa more
That’s too long of a story, but I’d say the fanbase of Federer has its part in it with their tendencies to always downplay Nadal no matter what the topic is, even when it doesn’t relate to Federer or his records.

Funny thing that a few Federinas are jumping up and down deliriously but if Nadal doesn't stop Djokovic this year, Federer's weeks at #1 is most likely gone next year lol and Djokovic will have more YE #1.

And trust me, I'm going to laugh so hard at these trolls when that happens. I'm sure @Yugram will do that too.

Classic Nadal. It’s almost as disgusting as refusing to take on Federer at Indian Wells. It’s no wonder his head to head is so good. Anytime he feels his opponent is playing great and he’s not at 100 pefent he pulls out.

Why did Federer chicken out in Rome?
