Often it was in December. The DC final wasn't a one-week event, but it was held in November, immediately after the ATP final.
And to reduce the ENTIRE one-year DC to just one weekend is beyond silly...

To be fair it's a whole week, not just one weekendOften it was in December.

Nishikori..................... injured?
Piqué CupWhy are they playing the whole thing in Madrid?
Shocker!
It is fake right? Why are they shocked?Nishikori..................... injured?
Piqué is a Davis Cup genocidist.Piqué Cup
A whole week of tired pros and missing top players slugging it out (barely), being cheered on by only a fraction of their countrymen? To be fair it's a whole week, not just one weekend
Because... ATP.Why are they playing the whole thing in Madrid?
It hasn't been AS relevant as in the 80s, but it was still relevant enough that Malaysia wasn't winning it, but the top countries. With usually their best players.I dont think DC has been relevant since the 80's
It has been for Argentina until the moment they won it in 2016.I dont think DC has been relevant since the 80's
These fans in the stadium didn't lose anything:Fans in the stadium and tv audiences lose the drama, atmosphere and sometimes crowd 'madness' of home court advantage. On this point DC is worse off.
DC was huge back in the days, not anymore. New format, shortened matches, best players unwilling to participate, it's been all downhill since the early 90's.
Zverev is just much smarter than people give him credit. Wasting his energy on quasi-Davis Cup is a much dumber option...Here are reasons a few of top-10 players don't play in the Davis Cup final this week:
#7 Alexander Zverev - not playing, prefers to earn millions by playing exhibition matches in South-America this week
I've thrown a glance at quasi-Davis Cup and it is such a joke I had to switch it off after 5 minutes.
Zero atmosphere, empty stands. There is more excitement at a board meeting in Yuppieland Wall Street.

Kudos to Federer for guiding Zverev to the right decision. Federer's motives may be money, but he did the right thing.

Why not though? Why are they playing the whole thing in Madrid?

It's available on RTS.
An athlete who lies about being greedy...I wonder why Zverev doesn't admit honestly that he wants to earn money. Instead of admitting he wants money, he said he wouldn't play in the Davis Cup final "because in November I do not want to play tennis anymore."
¤¤ Speaking about the event [the Davis Cup final in Madrid], 21-year-old Zverev has criticised the timing. Stating that he will not be playing.
“Because in November I do not want to play tennis anymore. I think all the top guys will say the same thing.” Zverev told reporters in Shanghai on Wednesday.
“We have one-and-a-half months off in our season, and that’s the end of November and December. Making a tournament at the end of November, which is ten days long and playing and competing, it’s crazy. I mean, by the end of the year, we are all tired.” ¤¤ [Ubitennis 11/10/2018]
I promise I will, but only if you tell me again where you find all these non-sequiuturs?Tell us again how you were just asking about how people watch DC.
I promise I will, but only if you tell me again where you find all these non-sequiuturs?
Is it THAT place again?
You need to shut that place down. It is over-producing at the moment.
And then YOU blame ME that I'm always off-topic...You don't know what non sequitur means, if you thought that I am not following up on the previous time when I made the remark about your motives. They are still the same, and I am consistently marking them for what they are.
I am sure that in due time we will see what is the reason for that approach.
And then YOU blame ME that I'm always off-topic...
Must you always make it personal?
I repeat - for the 156th time: I am not your enemy. I am your friend.
Now, if you want to discuss my point, my actual post (the one about tennis) do it now, otherwise forever spend your days bent over above your favourite seat...
Yes, I am sorry to disappoint you, I am actually discussing tennis on tennis threads and QDC on QDC threads. I am strange that way.I didn't make any personal comments here. You did, so what are you talking about?
I already commented on your "tennis" post. Well, there is not much "tennis" to it, as it is mostly spitting on the DC.
EDIT: I just went to the USA-Canada thread, and LO and BEHOLD, you are also there, posting about the "quasi" DC. Literally, you are only talking about that.
