USA bans all travel from Europe for the 30 days. Players hoping to play in Miami would need to arrive by Midnight friday

"The UK is exempt from the ban"

Has "the UK" a vaccine that no one else possesses?

Surely Miami and other events will now be cancelled if some of the biggest names can't play the tournament due to being unable to enter the country.

WTA #25 Dayana Yastremska has already said she's rushing to catch a flight to USA

How is she going to get back home? Or is she counting on the clay season being halted?

EDIT: oh wait, she's trying to fly home from the US

Are they going to bar anyone coming from the UK if they've been in the European mainland recently? It's not like it's super hard to get to the UK from other European countries
Doesn't seem like it which is the stupid thing. We had this issue in Australia. They banned entry from China which impacted a lot of university students so they just flew into Singapore or Dubai and then to Australia and came in that way. Governments couldn't be handling this any worse if they tried.

South Korea, Taiwan, and Germany are handling it fairly well

China also did a great job of containing it after botching the initial response. Seems like they've gotten past the worst of it. Having been to China I'm surprised at how (relatively) well they managed to stop it from wrecking the whole country

It should have happened months ago if we were ever going to take this thing seriously. Taking half-measures at this point is immaterial.

Overwhelmed medical infrastructure and millions of threatened elderly folks? Meh, what about muh quarterly economic data and tennis tournaments?

China basically shutting down the entire country should have been a sign that this thing had to be taken at least a little bit seriously.

We had months to prepare but did nothing. The virus is already firmly in the US; this ban is basically useless at this point.

^^^ Please. What do you want? Cancel everything without forethought? If we just banned everything left and right the whole country and economy will grind to a halt. They wanted to keep the tournament in play if they could. I see no problem in that. The recent travel ban was posted today.

Considering Indian Wells was cancelled with less cases in the local area than Miami and Florida has, it would make far more sense to cancel that event and give players enough warning to get home. Not everything should be banned but sticking your head in the sand and having things go on like normal (as we saw today with the NBA with an infected player almost walk out to play the match only for it to be cancelled with mere seconds to go).

Thankfully in the case of Rudy Gobert he was not at the stadium for the match so he was no chance of taking the court before this most recent cancellation.

But he has potentially done a lot of damage with his antics, which included taunting reporters and rubbing his hands on their microphones and recording equipment when he wasn't taking this seriously. His ignorance and buffoonery has put many additional people at risk.

Miami has been cancelled

Woodrow! Glad that you are here!

Actually it hasn't. Just unconfirmed rumours

Their website still selling tickets

Their last tweet

If I were you, I would believe him.

I will not till Miami open Twitter or site confirmed it sorry
Woodrow’s an ATP chair ump,so I’m guessing he knows what he’s talking about here, but it is odd that there’s been no official announcement yet. Clearly most top players won’t be there even if they do try to hold it. I can’t imagine they’ll move forward in the current circumstances.

Miami will be cancelled but it obviously hasn't yet been officially cancelled. Maybe there are some legal intricacies to be disentangled before it happens officially.

Waiting for the full tour 6wk hiatus, not just Miami.

True, only 18 new cases in China and South Corea has also a downward trend in cases.

Probably true in the Stable Genius's mind, leader of United Stupidity. The Orange Clown has been hanging around with people who have the virus. As far as we know, he has not yet been tested.

You can't even buy hand sanitizer now - it's all gone from stores. Get tested? Maybe in Australia, where Tom Hanks and his wife got tested. As of Monday only 4,384 people got tested in the US.

Let's go with 300 million people in the US:

4384/300 000 000=1.4613333E-5

In other words: .00146%

Do the math. We have NO idea how many people have the virus, but it's doubling about every week, if not faster.

Yes, it's called border & immigration control.
UK is not part of Schengen area, which means that individuals that can enter some of EU countries for granted, might not be allowed to enter UK

Depends on your nationality/ passport.
But I think US authorities are aware and are checking how they can close this loop.

You can exclude Germany from this list.
Supermarket shelves are empty.
The number of cases is increasing. And that is only what they test but they don't test massively, as they believe that they were successful at identifying patient zero and the people who contacted with patient zero

Not sure how's Germany handling it...
I was in Frankfurt February 25, out of Frankfurt February 27, back to Frankfurt March 3 and out of Frankfurt March 4 and no one checked me, asked me a single question or inquired where I traveled for a week...

In the mean time, the goofs in the US (DFW airport) put me on March 4 in a contaminated room with a bunch of arriving passengers from all corners of the world because I was in China January 11. When I yelled at them for exposing me to potentially infected person and for questioning then WHY, they said the President (biggest goof of them all) ordered everyone who was in China after January 1 to go through this process. When I asked them about the logic behind that -- I was in China 2 months prior to this date, they could not answer...

They don't need to ask you, Germany has very advanced identification systems.
Also your temperature theoretically could be measured without stoping you for a second.

Yet the believe that they handle it well probably caused quite the opposite with amount of infected people raising from a few to >1000

Well, in the past (September, November) they did ask me all sorts of questions... And yes, I was in China in January and in Serbia February 27 - March 3...
Also, other airports do show signs that thermal cameras are in use, Frankfurt had no signs two weeks ago. I could not see any (which does not mean they were not there)

Djokovic flying back to MC tomorrow from LAX, as he announced today.

Yep I seen that. There be no tennis at least till after Wimbledon I feel. Maybe longer too. Tennis is the last thing on the players minds. Same should be the case for all fans. This is getting really serious. Cases all over Europe continuing to grow at a scary rate and only gonna get worse.

Therein lies the problem. There is no indication that people have been held because they come from countries outside of the Schengen zone, and in reality the Schengen zone includes almost all European countries, including some that are not part of the EU. The truth is that that exemption has nothing to do with the UK being "safer".

The truth is several or perhaps many countries already introduced similar travel bans.
First on travelling to / from China. Then South Corea and Iran were added.
Then Italy was added.
Nowadays most flights to Italy ard canceled within EU, and there are various types of restrictions from restricting air travel to complete ban for people coming from affected areas.

So US is not the pioneer in this domain.
Whether UK decision being political or based on real facts.
