Hey guys, I recently got a job instructing at a country club, and I was looking for some tips you might have. I'm really just looking for ideas for drills. I'm going to be dealing with mainly younger kids who are beginners, a few kids who are a little older and experienced, and some adults who are relativiely new to the game as well. When I started thinking about places I could get ideas from, TT was the first thing I thought of cause I know a lot of you have had a lot of experience with this. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!

for the kids the most fun comes from being imaginative. like the tennis ball can act as goldfishes, mice, kangaroos, bob the astronaut going to mars, people climbing up the mountains, etc. so just make up a game that focuses around making it more than just about tennis. i know this is somewhat vague but you can look around and get some good concrete ideas; too much to describe here

I wish my book, Coaching Mastery was ready for you! In the meantime, if you have any questions specific to coaching, I would be more than happy to share my information.

I coached the most successful high school team in the U.S. along with my father, together amassing a win-loss record of over 900 team wins against fewer than 25 losses. We did it by building players--over 40 players on average per team. I would love to share our secrets...of course, I will include them all in the book!

In the meantime, you might look up the many teaching lessons found at www.tennisone.com. There are many drills, skills and thrills as well as a new e-tennispro section designed specifically for coaches and teaching pros, in addition to thousands of video clips and over 800 lessons.

And, there are many experienced pros here at these message boards that I know are very giving of their own information. Also, check out Jeffs www.hi_techtennis.com or my friend John Yandell's www.tennisplayer.net. Both offer world class tennis info as well.

Most of the people i coach ae in the 5-12age range. With the younger kids being imaginative is key. That's what makes it fun for them and inspires them to try hard. I also suggest using lots of equipment like cones and other things. Something that may seem silly to you would be amazing for a kid. ;)
