Swiatek vs Kenin

Here's the way I see the womens final tomorrow if both girls play their best. Serve, net play, advantage Swiatek. Experience, drop shots, advantage Kenin. Ground strokes, about even, maybe slight advantage to Swiatek. Speed, movement, slight advantage to Swiatek. If Iga can match Kenin's mental toughness, I think she wins in close match.

Seems like destiny for Swiatek, but I’m taking Kenin. Swiatek will finally get a little rattled in a tense moment, and unravel a bit. Kenin in a close one.

Ostapenko comes to my mind ... the way she was bashing that ball in 2017 ... and she had Simona Halep across the net !

I still think Kenin wins, just like I was sure that Halep would win in that 2017 final !

Kenin is impressive in finals. Played 6 finals so far, and won 5. She was just incredible in the last 2 sets against Muguruza in Australia. I still can't get over the way she saved the 3 BP at 2-2 0-40 in the third set. 2 backhand winners, 2 forehand winners and 1 ace. Then she won the last set 62.

But Swiatek has never lost more than 5 games in this tournament. She won 61 62 against Voudrousova (last year finalist) and Same score against Halep. If she keeps the same level, Kenin had tiny chance no matter how great she plays. If both players play their best tennis, it could be a great final actually....

Swiatek is pretty bad at net. Also, Swiatek is completely different from Ostapenko, and imo on a different tier from her.

Kenin will put up a dogfight no matter what, that I am sure! More than any other opponent Swiatek has faced. I am happy with the result either way, but obviously pulling for Kenin. It's hard to get a connection with Swiatek, though, because of her outfit/hat. It's so bland and we can't even see her face most of the time!

I don't mind Iga's hat but yeah the outfit this week is not very becoming to say the least. I think that the more you know about her the more you will like her. She has some interesting thoughts about why she likes to play tennis. Generally I like the way Kenin plays too. She is basically all business. I think it just might be a great match.

Any links to good interviews?

I didn’t watch the match, so I’m wondering, how the heck did Kenin get double bageled by Azarenka? Was Azarenka on fire?

I hope these links will work.

Players like Swiatek, Kenin and Barty make me really enjoy watching women's tennis. Imo, these players are on a different level than most of the current female slam winners, when it comes to technique and shots in the tool box.

As much as I am impressed by the quality of Kenin's tennis, Swiatek is playing an aggressive ATP style of tennis that is so entertaining to watch.

Comparing (or equalling) Swiatek to Ostapenka, is undervaluing Swiatek's skills. Ostapenko was firing flat winners from the baseline, inches from the lines. Iga is playing at a different level. She will be winning a lot of slams going forward.

I think this might be Kenin realizing that this may be her kryptonite for the next 8-10 years. Swiatek is bigger, more athletic and hits a much bigger ball.
Looking at them on the podium, they are actually much closer in size than I would have assumed.
She definitely does it a bigger and cleaner ball though.

Iga looks barring injury the new Steffi Graf, same mixture of power, athleticism and brain. Shame about the face muzzles at the end, such lunacy outside but the Tennis was superb.

Iga will win plenty more, with the pretty face and big smile in view.

Amazing play by Iga all tourney.

Very talented, and at just 19, she even understands about the importance of sports psychology and employed someone for that purpose. The results speak for themselves; a DOMINANT maiden slam, no sets lost, and losing no more than 5 games per match. Unreal.
Such a complete game already, and again, she's only 19!

Osaka and Swiatek. The WTA is in good hands.

Congrats Iga!!

That has to be one of the most dominant slams for a woman ever. She lost an average of 4 games per match. After she lost the first game of the second set against Kenin, she lost 6 points. She slaughtered the competition. That FH is savage - probably one of the heaviest on tour between depth, topspin and pace. And she's got great movement and touch. If she and Osaka are healthy it's gonna be tough for Serena to get that last slam.

After the match Sofia said she didn't want to make excuses but said that her leg was definitely not up to par. Maybe if like Swiatek she had only allowed her opponents an average of 4 games per match in the earlier rounds instead of having to play 4 three set matches, her legs would have been in better shape for the final.

It's probably too early to hype Swiatek. Remember Ostapenko? Majoli? Myskina? Stevens? She'll be a real deal if she'll back up RG title with another slam next year, when Osaka and Andreescu are good and healthy.
