Post here if you are interested in playing MEP (@GSG). Let's have all these matches on @TennisTroll channel.
@GSG - how many matches per month can you offer to TT folks? What are your other requirements to play?

he's good.
while not aethestically pleasing to watch hit, he's taking 4.5 scalps.
if he's in tri-state ny, would love a shot :)
doubt i'd be in atlanta area any time soon.

He said he is originally from Buffalo, NY - could he purchase a ATL - nyta2's city ( I guess somewhere in NY) -> Buffalo ticket for his thanksgiving/holiday trip?

I have USTA every Saturday, and I'm currently in a couple other leagues that are winding down. I have a day job and a family as well. Other than than, I'm pretty flexible.

I love Buffalo, but I haven't lived there in over 25 years. I'm outside Atlanta. Tolleson Park is where it's at for anyone in town who wants to play.

@GSG what other sports did you play? play any for college?
you remind me of my friend who played d1 b-ball, and a couple friends that played college soccer...
great movers, greate eye hand coord or foot eye coord
some got training, some didn't... but either way, when they started, they could figure out/improvise to a decent proficiency.

Well, we are trying to create some hype if you want to know the truth. I'm ready to play MEP, but my racket is currently under audit by the IRS ( international racket service).

I know three guys in AZ from our 4.0 and 4.5 teams that have the same game if you need a warmer state to play. Just be ready to run.

no offense to buffalo, just a far way to go for just a tennis match :)

"just a tennis match?" - it's more than a tennis match, it's for some exhilarating experience with something unique - MEP (the most exhausting player in the world)

Is he? 50 year old guy just murdered him the other day. TennisTroll beat him as well. His legend is out of control. He is a good player a solid 4.5. But that's it. Not even a strong 4.5.

I think you'd crush him because your have a good net game and overhead plus if you dropshot him to bring him to the net he'd be doomed.

Actually, I do not see him having anything that could hurt you.

I haven't been playing as much. I did just finish a good hitting session with one of my buddies and played pretty well, though. I'm trying to train again for some Open tourneys in December in SoCal.

Any tennis near Johns Creek? I get there for work occasionally

"Murdered?" Come on now, I think losing in a 3rd set tiebreaker can't be considered anything worse than manslaughter... ;)
No matter how hard we try, we'll still look on this as that... If a consistent player wins over an attacker - that one destoyed himself, or maybe defender cramped it out. If it's the other way around, the attacker crushed, hit through or picked apart his opponent. Tough to be humble to compliment "ways of victory" over "big weapons and shiny show".

Winning in 3rd set TB, looked more like a slap on the wrist... but I do understand a slap could lead to a very slow and painful end sometime.

Old guy was in total command in tie break - just kinda chilled out in the second set and starting blowing him off the court in the tie break with his serve. It's a strategy players with real serves use all the time. And remember this guy is 50 years old and IMHO not really in the best shape.

considering the guy doesn't have "trained" strokes, i'm impressed that he's taking 4.5 scalps.
yeah, probably not going to get past mid-4.5, but considering the tools he has to work with, he's "good".
do i think he'll get to 5.0, no chance, but then again, my hopes for 5.0 are dim, and i have "modern" strokes.
so yeah, from a rec standpoint, he's "good" in my book.

fitness is already part the for ntrp/utr rating... so isn't even in my thinking. just "is he beating 4.5"? then, to me he's good (since i'm a 4.5)... obviously a 5.0 will think he (and i) suck.

by lobbing

Then you just hit overheads, right? He doesn't have a topspin lob so far as I can see... he just bunts it up in the air, so he's not hitting them for winners (or coming into net after them). That will re-start the point occasionally, but not work consistently against someone with a decent net game (and, by extension, a decent OH).

You win a tennis match if you do better than your opponent in 2 out of 3 areas. The 3 areas are - speed, speed, and speed. Can you move your feet faster than your opponent? Can you hit faster than your opponent? Can you spin the ball more than your opponent? Foot speed, ball speed and spin speed - make sure you do better in 2 of the 3 areas - you can beat any pusher or non-pusher

We don't really disagree - very solid 4.5 which is amazing given his style. My point is that he has notched some nice victories and a couple of losses now. Its not been total domination. I thought 50 year old guy did really well by slice drop shots off his serve and overpowering him with his serve. This meant he really was in the drivers seat much of the time.

Also most rec players aren't going to play 3 sets. Leagues use a tie break - so this idea that 50 year old guy would lose in three sets is not realistic. If he had to play 3 sets he might be only rated 4.0.

Maybe it's a regional thing, but here in Atl we typically play a full third set unless agreed upon beforehand, in USTA as well as other leagues. And I can't recall ever agreeing in advance to a third set tiebreaker unless there were extenuating circumstances.

I wish it were that way here. But third sets are an ancient relic of another era here.

Every rule change has been towards shorter matches [timed matches, 3rd set TBs in lieu of a 3rd set, Fast Four, etc]. Taken to its logical extreme, eventually we'll just spin the racquet to see who won.
