Djoko:heir to throne?

when fed retires or falls from his prime will Djokovic take over? I mean he looks on track, getting to the semis of french open at 20, and who knows what damage he'll do at Wimbledon or USopen. I think he is much more well rounded than Nadal and his game will last longer.

No. Djokovic is not the natural Heir for Federer. I seriously doubt if Federer has any serious challenges outside of Nadal. Murray and Djokovic can trouble Federer.

The next big guy of Tennis probably isnt coming from current top 15 (excl Nadal)

are you trying to say that the next big guy will be around 18ish and in the top 150. if thats the case who better than Juan Del Potro

The next big guy is probably a junior right now, and he's probably gonna upset Federer at the 2011 Wimbledon. He's born sometime in August of 1991. So the prophecy says.

Seriously though, Fed has no challenges other than nadal. Nadal is most likely not going to be fit to take over by the time fed exits his prime, and therefore a current junior to take the throne makes sense.

It's too hard to call. Novak is hot now, but this is still sports. We have to see what the Djokesters consistency levels are. He might be a flash in the pan, or a brilliant multiple grand slam winner. No one knows.

You do not consider Borg a GOAT contender? I'm just wondering...personally I do actually.
Can Borg's BH be considered a REAL two handed backhand?
He released the left hand a split second before contact, so he could also qualify as a one-hander ;)

I was just about to say the same thing.. Agreed..

In my opinion, he uses the left hand to set up the racquet and lets it go at the last second.. I am sitting on the fence with that one.. Wilander did a similar thing also. But I would say that Wilander had a 2 hander..

djokovic is a great player hands down. heir to the throne? no way! he can hang with the big guys because he is one, but beating nadal and federer consistently, not a chance. federer has a good 5 years coming if he were human, but since he isn't who knows how long his run could last. By then, djokovic could be running as dry as roddick.

he hit it ith two hands and only followed through with one because his racquet was so heavy, in his 90's comeback he had a normal 2hbh followthrough.

I think he'll fit in between generations. A little like Hewitt, who did well at the end of Sampras' career and before Fed's ascension.
So he might win a few majors, until the next champion comes along. Someone we haven't seen yet.
Don't forget Nadal is only a year older than Djoko.

Joko is good, but I don't think he can beat Fed/Nadal consistently.

Some young guns I like are baghdatis,, who will improve as he gains more experience, and Murray, who will be a threat once he stops moaning and gets in shape.

That makes no sense. Why would he release the left hand if the racquet was too heavy?
And at the contact point, he only had ONE HAND on his racquet. That qualifies as a one-hander in my book ;)

Indeed! If Djokovic and Murray have a Fed/Nadal-type rivalry in the future, I truly hope it's Joko who comes out on top, unless Murray matures significantly, and fast. I can't stand to watch his matches half the time. All that ******* and moaning, the terrible body language--if I were Brad Gilbert, I'd slam his head into the netpost once in a while for good measure.

Joko seems to have the better attitude, even though he gets accused of arrogance. Anyone see that "behind the scenes" bit from French Open with Djokovic, Nadal, Davydenko, and Antonio Banderes? I think it was on French television. Anyway, Djokovic was hilarious. Seems like a funny kid.

I think this kid has all the ingredients to be number one - but not yet. He is a great pleasure to watch and plays some very stylish tennis - I think give him a couple of years

andres, You steal my point there :)
I have always felt so - Borg's backhand just cannot be labelled as "Two Handed".

I want to see Novak play fed in the finals and blow him away. It is about time someone else won a slam.

Its only a matter of time before Nadal takes over the No.1 ranking and keeps his ranking for some months Before the Djokovic era begins and he starts dominating tennis and takes over the spot from a true champ like Nadal .

I expect true challenge to these two (for their rankings) from Murray,Dancevic ,Gulbis,Young, Isner,Berdych,Gasquet,Youzhny.

I expect these ten players to alter positions amongst themselves in the top 10 for a long time to come .

Novak is a baller, he owns-pwns fed retired or not, those tiebreaks in Montreal weren't even close.

And the best part about that match was that Novak was playing not even up to 30 % of his true potential level and still won it comfortably .

Very true, because after the first set tiebreak, he was just laughing so hard inside, that he couldn't collect himself to hit the ball at all in the second set. If he hadn't been laughing so hard, certainly there wouldn't have been a need for a third set...

I had a feeling he wanted the audience who had paid their hard earned money to watch a thriller (not some straight set owning) to get their money's worth ,so keeping that in mind he tanked the second set and kept it very close and then pulled the trigger when it most mattered .Such a great human being :)

Stylish? Djokovic isnt stylish at all. His strokes are effective, but all is textbook stuff. He's good at doing the simple things great. His playing style is hardly stylish at all. Having said that, he's been contesting in fantastic matches and i'd love to watch him if Nadal is not playing. Djoker has as much mental strength as anyone.

this djoker is not a joker, he has talent to become number one, he is the material , i think he can become a heir if he continues to develope. but now is too early to make any conclusion. give him maybe 2 years. so just wait and see ;)

ATM its obvious Nadal will take over, this is the third year in a row where he defends most of hes points. Djoko still needs to show he can succeed year after year like Fed and Nadal...

When Fed first came on tour, the experts were saying that he's the most talented player they've ever seen, but they just don't know if he can live up to the expectation(which obviously he did...). But for Djokovic though, I don't see experts awing at his talent. They only thought he's tough and doesn't really have a weakness, that's all there is... kind of similar to Hewitt in some ways...

My thoughts are that the Fed's decline is at least two, if not three years away. Therefore, it is impossible to know who will be at the top come that time. But, the wait should be interesting with the Joker and Rafa right on his heels.

Hey - but that is the most iportant thing in tennis for one ! to be able to make it look so simple when we all know how hard it is. All the great do it ..

Nothing like hewitt in several ways. Novak has bigger serve than federer, almost like Roddick, and has bigger forehand than Hewitt and just as consistant. Novak can hit winners from anywhere on the court from the backhand side as well as forehand. Has the best Drop shot in the game today. and volleys just as well as Hewitt. So Novak is basically better in every category than Hewitt except Volleys which are same level. Plus NOvak has better serve than Federer and better backhand and overall ground game than federer as well, that is why he will be the next US open champion tomorrow.
