Wilson Pricing Adjustment

Somebody told me that Wilson is increasing the price of racquets by about $70 starting September 1st. The company is allegedly doing this to ensure improved quality control across its racquet lines. Anybody heard about this? It may be a false rumor.

In before the thread gets deleted…
Was watching the semis yesterday and saw an ad by a competing company confirming the increase by 9/1
Haha wow really? It’s rare to see attack ads by tennis companies. Although I do remember either prince or head having something to the tune of “every blade eventually loses its edge”.

Wasn't an attack ad so much as an announcement. Competitor (to TW) was basically saying prices are going up soon, so buy now.

Yes. I saw that too. Another company stated that Wilson prices were going up Sept 1, so "get them before they go up". It was on TV today during Cinci tournament.

Maybe it's all a scandal to boost short term sales. But I doubt it, and just ordered a set of custom sticks from Wilson. Thanks for the thread :)

I'm not surprised and I'll bet we will continue to see this from many of the other mfg's. There is an incredible amount of inflation happening due to the simple supply/demand that has been going on since Covid. This is going to continue well into 2022 before things even begin to start normalizing. There isn't a single manufacturer in my business that hasn't raised prices at least once this year. The costs of mfg, materials, shipping, etc. are just crazy right now. Conspiracies abound about about money grabs... and I'm sure that happens here and there... but that happens even when things are good. The stark reality is that every single level of the supply chain for almost anything is incredibly stressed right now and the way we've gone about creating our supply chain with a lot of 'just in time' manufacturing has really blown things up. If it could go wrong it has gone wrong... and it won't get right for at least another year IMO.

$70 plus for incompetent sensor. Good luck Wilson and other companies following suit who think consumers are fools.

It all goes back to economics 101.. market sets prices.. it's basically what are people willing to pay.. or not pay.. or find other means to satisfy the need/desire...

I have played with numerous Wilson frames over the years and their models are not anywhere close to justifying a premium price. You'd have to be quite the fanboy to not look elsewhere on a very crowded market.

I think Babolat will be most happy with this as they've been bleeding Pure Drive rec women to the Clash. The price difference might be enough to move those ladies back to the Pure Drive.

The new world order on pricing will certainly create movement among brands..
Especially if the product that is offered is junk..
Not to mention spec variance..

Hence the recent Pro Staff substantial discount daununder; incidentally RF97 V.13 now retailing at TO for $379.95 AUD/$274.29 USD o_O

Wilson and other companies were absorbing the cost increase for the raw materials for their products initially, but now it's going to be passed on to us--as is logical for businesses that want to stay profitable. Not sure where people are hearing "$70," as I have seen varying numbers across the board and not all of the MAPs have changed as much as the wholesale cost has changed. Nothing I see matches $70, and I would expect it to be more modest, like $25-35. But I haven't gotten any updates for a hot minute, so something could have changed.

$70 was mentioned in the commercial on TV on Tennis Channel..( tennis outlet in Texas)
Up to $70 was the statement...

For Wilson we have confirmation on the date of September 1st, but has anyone heard the date for other companies?

I just heard another reason for the price increase... Starting Sept 1 with the price increase...all Wilson rackets will include a Blue Tooth transmitter to allow direct communication protocols to coaches and smart devices..
I saw that frame being used in the Cinci Semi Final..
He wasn't getting good reception though, so he still had to go to the locker room.

It's showing up on TW's website now - not just for rackets. Something like 'buy now, before Wilson's mandated price increase 9/1.'

Yeah... it’s a little effed up on Wilson’s part. I’m wondering if the price increase will apply to the new Blade v8 as well? Like, here’s the new Blade with a US Open cosmetic, priced like its competitors now, but in just a few days...

Or something like that, I’m just imagining.

Most prices are going up $20 retail. That’s $10 increase in what Wilson charges retailers. The bump is to absorb the large increase in the cost of import shipping(or that’s the story). Many companies in an adjacent industry that I work in are doing similar “running changes”.

I believe that their reasons are legitimate. If they weren’t taking it in the teeth on shipping they would simply increase prices on upcoming models.

The new Blades won’t hike. They come in at their set higher price.

Any info or ideas on how much strings and grips will increase?

Is anyone else shopping feverishly for Wilson gear? lol. I bought a set of custom sticks, a couple leather grips, and a nice new bag in the past 2.5 days. Oh and 3 sets of grommets. =D

I work in shipping. You used to RARELY see a container being shipped from China to US get anywhere NEAR $10,000/40' container. We are seeing $35,000 bucks right now... PER CONTAINER. Assuming Wilson could fill a container with their **** that needs to be passed on to each product.

It got so bad that Home Depot just started buying their own ships instead of contracting out to other carriers. Its wild

Yes.. a project that I manage had a shipment allocation for $30k when original agreement was made earlier this year..now we had to adjust to $100k once actual shipment was made 2 weeks ago. Japan to California..

Well….. 25K ex dock to mid west US for a 40HQ…. If you can find one. 35K…. If it gets to that I’m going to quit and go be a bartender in the keys.

Rackets don’t use electronics luckily, cause my team is also dealing with spot buy on OOS components that might be .17 and now are 10 bucks. It’s absolutely insane on everything.

TE has the upcoming prices listed on all the Wilson frames. Looks like major price increase for PS. Ultra and Burn also get increases. Blade stays the same for some reason.

My desire to holic just died a little. I’m wondering if the Pro Lab racquets will also see an increase.

Crap. Just got the email:
"...prices on all Wilson rackets, bags, shoes, strings and more will be increasing Sept. 1st (up to $70)."

Is it at all possible prices could go down when shipping gets cheaper? Knowing greedy corporations this might not happen, but I would like to have a glimmer of hope in my soul.

Anything’s possible. But when will the costs go down? Everything I’ve read says over 10K for all of 2022. Which is better than 25K. But it was 4500 in 2019.

It's always possible... in the tech markets prices fluctuate a lot... especially with RAM chips. Price does come back down usually, but that's due in a large part to competition and supply/demand. Without one or both of those forces in the consumers favor... prices could stay the same. If they do come back down it probably won't be to where they once were before they went up... especially if the demand is there.

I would start calling bars in the Keys :p

If manufacturer costs go down I think this would more likely play out as prices staying the same for longer than usual rather than coming back down. As an example instead of the generation in 2023 going up the usual $10 or $20 it’d keep the 2022 price.

Once people are used to paying more, they're not going to charge less.

According to TE'ssite: All ProStaff will be the same price ($279.) Strings going up about $1.00. No change on grips/OG (yet.)

Blade V7 probably stays the same because the V8 will be introduced in September with a higher price.
