Would love to know his current strung spec. As of 2018 it was roughly 350g, 33.5cm, 368sw (per numerous sources, including Impacting Tennis, who use it to contrast with Fed's setup in their MGR/i article -- link here), but I bet he's adjusted it, perhaps down a bit in both swing weight and balance point judging by his mechanics. But who knows...

I heard he went down in SW and changed the leather grip to full synthetic, that’s why you see him putting on the grap glue like thing at almost every change over for better grip.

After yesterday's majestic performance, not surprised to see this thread coming to the fore!

But wow, wasn't expecting an 18x18. What is this sorcery? And which two crosses should I omit on my VC95 to try it out (I'm only half kidding)?
Doesn't make sense to skip crosses to replicate an 18x18 in a 16x20. The drill pattern in Dimitrov's PS is custom, so the crosses have a different spacing across the face of the racket.
What is next. 12x19 ?

Has Dimitrov's lifelong tinkering finally yielded the perfect spec? It'd be cool to see him win this Miami.

Yes, I was only kidding around, but of course I was mixing up my Vcore 95 with the Vcore Pro 97HD I've been using lately as well.

As of 2013, Dimitrov uses a customized Wilson mid-size 93 square inches prototype racket provided by the Wilson Pro Room Team (as disclosed by pro tour stringers such as the Priority One team members), cosmetic on it is the Pro Staff 95 BLX, it is weighted about 12.oz strung with a 16X19 string pattern. In 2014, he switched to 18X17 string pattern. From 2015 and on, he switched to a 97 square inches head size, similar to Federer's frame but with a 18X17 pattern. In 2016, he worked with Wilson Pro Room Team to come up with the model now known as the Pro Staff 97S with a thinner beam width of 19.5mm.

I have 2 of his current customized for him frames in 18x18, L5. Same hard resin in handle as a few years back with other frames of his i had, however, the big change with him currently is the fact that he dropped the wilson leather and is now using a synthetic grip. Furthermore, the 2 frames i have as per exact ones you see in Miami pics, are 338 grams strung with overgrip and a 32.3 balance......big departure from his 353/32.9 ish days.

Do you know the brand and model of the Synthetic grip?
Thank you.

Great info, thanks very much! Dimitrov is my favorite current player. His performance in Miami yesterday was nothing short of inspiring. The guy can really play, still!

So that's 315g unstrung, with 340 kgcm2 strung, if the balance is that low. Wow

I actually don't know what the exact unstrung specs are because i got these customized with his current specs and his string job. They feel so much better in play than the specs he used to have on some of his 18x17 frames when his specs were floating around 353/33cm.

Oh I just subtracted 18g for strings and 4-5g for the overgrip. And since I play with a Blade with almost exact those specs, 315ish g and 343kgcm2 at the moment, so it's clear that Grigor can't be playing with 350 kgcm2 swingweight as he used to, because then the balance point would be just under 33cm or so, not 32.3 as it is now. Thank you for the info, much appreciated!

Anyone that wants to see pics, just email me and will send individually. gjtellz09@hotmail.com.
People usually use imgur to post here, there are other websites as well. How come they came your way, the racquets? A gift or? Also maybe racquets given after the holiday season are test racquets, and Grigor is not playing with that racquet setup now, dunno?

Hope you enjoy them. I had the opportunity to try his 93 18x17s back in the day and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Very unforgiving racquet. Not as heavy as Berdych's but still wasn't something I'd buy if I had the chance and money.

I hope that he goes on a crazy enough run of success that we get a GD97 release. I mean for Wilson it would be great because they must have so much tooling already to make racquets with that mould
I'd like to see that too but given the history it isn't very likely...
Wilson did release 2 of his frames and both times he switched, IIRC, before they hit the market or very soon after.
Even his recent history isn't stellar. He just recently switched from 18x17 to 18x18... if this goes on he might as well switch to 18x19 by the end of the year...

Also, since i am playing with these, not just collecting, i would say that if you took an RF 97 and gave it an 18x18 pattern and could drop the weight so you could get it at Dimitrov's specs, they would feel the same. in other words, it doesn't feel like he has a custom layup...... its pretty stiff like the fed frame.

But that would be even better for Wilson, it would justify frequent new iterations!

Hmmm... I wanted to pitch the idea of releasing the PS97S 18x18 on Wilson's profile on Facebook but it seems they're not really interested in the event in Miami... nothing about Dimitrov reaching the final... nothing about the tournament what so ever...
Oh well, will message them and as usual will get the "get lost" answer in the form of "Thank you for your feedback" :-D

Good to see Dimitrov has finally figured out his racket situation. Since his switch too the 18x18 back in the fall of 2022, the results seem to be trending upward and looks like he had a lot more confidence in his shots.

He has such an attractive game to watch and graceful strokes. Love to watch him change the pace, jump on forehands and get to the net. Pleased he's playing such great tennis

Why does an 18*18 work wonders and why does an 18*19 work so well too

Typically not strong sets up that many have tried or manufactures put out there ..

18*19 in two retail frames I have are amazing

After all these years Dimi could have been swinging a modified Power Angle Power 98/K but strung the normal way :)
Personally the snobbery of Wilson towards the rare OHBH players is discrimination ;)!
