IsoSpeed Pro and the Mojo Setup

Seems to me that Isopeed has reformulated the isoSpeed pro. The Mojo setup is klip Legend mains coupled with isopeed pro crosses. The isospeed pro I have been using and recommending is made of polyolefin. The isospeed website indicates this product is now made of polypropeline <sp?>. Also rather than suggesting to string it tighter by 10% and have the string relax and stabilize, they are suggesting folks string it 10-15% looser like you would a conventional poly. I cant see how this new string would perform the same as the setup I've/we've been using. www.isospeed.com

Think TW has the old description coupled with the new packaging.

Thought to post this for those purchasing the new stock. Please post how this new string performs. thanks

Wow, that is pretty lame. You would think that they would have the common courtesy to change the name of the string.

10% tighter to 10-15% looser , we are talking a big difference there...
i suppose they totally change the string...............????????
maybe TW or isospeed can give us an answer....??????
NBMJ, have you encounter any string that has the similsr character to the iso pro....?

yes, i think things are as i reported. i havent found anything close to the isospeed pro to use as a cross with the legend gut. Head Rip Control is made of the same material, but it was reported that it doesnt play much like the Iso. If I find something I will let you know...please do same. I would think some people have the new version of the IsoPro coming in, so we will likley hear something soon. I hope it plays well as it would be a shame since people bought the string because TW didnt update their information. hopefully they will still be sent the original stuff or the new stuff will play ok, but stringing lower rather than higher suggests harsh to me

Hey mojinator, have you heard anything through the grapevine about the Baseline Spin? Mighty tempting at 40 bucks a reel since I go through 40 bucks worth of ALU Rough on a good saturday.

I know you haven't tried it since you are a poly sissy (funny how the guy with the bad wrist is calling the guy in good health a poly sissy) but figured you may have heard something from someone.

J-man,
Havent a clue. Looks as though Iso has converted their strings from polyolefin to polypropylene or as Butwheat would say Poddytopateen. Thought polypropylene was used to make moisture wicking underwear...have not idea how any of this stuff might play
Ya man..i've never had poly wrist or anything other than very minour wrist, elbow, arm, or shoulder after hitting a few million balls..just lucky i guess. or might have something to do with never using poly and technique. now to do something about these achilles........

"Polypropylene is another common polyolefin which is made from the olefin propylene." (according to Wikipedia...maybe your local MatSci guru has more to say).

And NBMJ is right in that polypropylene is used in Under Armour. I'm guessing that the new Control & Professional are simply tweaked versions of the originals (much like Babolat updated Xcel), since they retain the same name.

J011yroger, if you look on Iso-Speed's website, they have a line of gauges for the Baseline string. Baseline Spin is 1.20, but you might be more interested in Baseline Speed, which is 1.25.
Here is Chris' opinion of Baseline Spin:

Although, if you were looking for a cheap substitute for ALU, the popular starting point seems to be Cyberflash or Unique Big Hitter.

.

the point i've been making is that the 'old' isopro said to string 10% tighter. this new one says to string 10-15% lower. that seems like more than a tweak to me, but think some people will be stringing this stuff up soon

Yea, I was more curious than anything else. I really love the ALU, and hey, its only money right?

Has anyone tried Luxilon Fluoro?

Yes, I use it in a hybrid with VS gut, and love it. Slightly softer than other Luxilon strings, but similar overall in most respects. A great compromise if you like the poly family in general but want a little less stiffness/harshness.

There seems to be Isospeed Pro "Classic" which still seems to be polyolefin....

BTW, Head Rip Control is made of polyolefin + Nylon AFAIK.

NBMJ,

If you look, they suggest 10-15% lower on pretty much every string regardless of composition on that site. I'm guessing that the tips section on the new site is not quite right yet. Looks like the same string to me.

Good point.

It seems that the Iso-Speed Pro in the Mojo setup is now called Iso-Speed Pro Classic. Same material, same packaging. TW even added all the old feedback to this "Classic" version.

to try head rip control, do we have to adjust the tensions 10%...? either up or down..?

Glad they now have separate listing for the new and old ISOSpeed Pro strings to avoid confusion, but in the new pro description theres still no mention of the - 10~15% tension adjustment...

NBM - which of the legend gauge(s) do you currnetly use with your set-up and which one would you recommend as a starting point ..

For myself - sw grip / moderate spin (multifiber strings on a 16x19 @ 56lbs typically break after about 2 months max).

Thank you

yw. the only Legend i've used in this hybrid is 17g. saw no reason to change. i like thin gauged string. i tried the legend18 straight up and it doesnt suit my particular swing dynamics. so didint make sense to try it in the hybrid. the Legend18 is a nice string..not for me however. suggest you start with the Legend17

I ordered the new ISO by mistake and it came yesterday. It's appearance is very different than Pro Classic - has an outer texture almost like NRG2 and you can see the filaments woven under the coating. Strung up one racquet with the MOJO blend and it has the same "grabby" nature (as ISO Pro Classic) when weaving the crosses. I didn't decrease the tension on the crosses so we'll have to see how it hits.

Klip Legend 17 mains @58 and ISO Pro New crosses @ 60 in MG Rad Pro

Yesterday my son got to use the Klip/new Iso Pro in a tournament for 2 sets and switched to the Klip old Iso Pro for the 3rd set. These were both strung at 58/60 in MGRad Pros.

Said placement & control on serves was better w/ old Iso Pro (now Classic). No difference between the two on groundies for spin and control. No difference between the two setups on volleys. Same overall power levels for both hybrids.

So I surmise you don't have to drop the tension on the new Pro to get the same results. I'll save the $1 and get the Iso Pro Classic.

Bagung - The MGRPs appear to be better than the FXRPTs that my son used before. More consistent hit with no loss of accuracy or control - they're weighted to 362g strung and 5.5 pts HL.

thanks for the info......i suppose the klip is the legend 17..?
what is FXRPTs..?
362g strung, is that include overgrip, dampener, head tape and lead....?

Bagung - Head FXP Rad Tours. MGRad Pro weight is complete w/ OG, damper, string. Weight added in handle and 3/9 positions.

Snoopy - Durability (actual playing time) ...1 stick @ 7hrs (cut out and restrung since mains and crosses were frayed and the tension was down), 1 stick @ 2hrs (Klip main snapped in sweet spot), 1 stick @ 3 1/2 hrs (Klip main snapped in sweet spot).

So my son hasn't broken an ISO cross yet - the Klip Legend 17 has broken first. Your experience may vary.

This is surprising. Theses are two diff string s with very different materials. The stringing recommendations for the old and new one are vastly different(-10% to +10%). How can these strings play similar with same tension ?

if and only if, the "new" and the "old classic" plays the same, i much prefer the new one... since i do not have to put 10% extra tensions on my frames
