wht does a half size heat sleve weigh...more?

I am thinking of replacing leather on my POGs but I like them very headlight. If I replace with a synthetic grip I assume it will be less headlight so I will want to make up for that. I could probably stand to make the grips a little thicker so I was thinking of a half size heat sleve and a sinthetic grip without overgrip. I do have sweaty hands though and tournagrip is what I use during the summer. It would be nice just to have a grip on it that I did not need an overgrip for. Any suggestions here. I can always go to my shop and get my sticks matched as well so I can get them close to what my fav is now.

Just put lead tape under the grips..

that is what I was thinking. I think I like a regular grip intead of the leather one. Seems a bit thinner to me and not as cushiony even with a tournagrip on it. I will get my shop to match them to the specs of my fav and tell them I want a new thicker softer grip.

A full size sleeve weighs about 14 grams (.5 oz)... so I imagine a half size would probably weigh 8-9 grams.

So let me get this straight - you're screwing up the balance of your racquet just so you can replace the superb feel of leather and tournagrip with the lifeless feel of foam? I don't understand why anyone would do this.

Edit: Synthetic grips don't handle sweat nearly as well as tournagrip so count on slapping a tournagrip on top of your heat-shrink and syn grip.

Edit #2: You can adjust grip size somewhat by picking a thinner (TW brand) or thicker (Bab) leather grip along with how much you overlap your tournagrip. Also, heat-shrinks round your bevels (especially the full-size ones).

agreed, i just bought more leather grips, because i don't like the duratac grips on my O3's, LOL.

Ever heard of personal preference?

Some players on tour use leather some use synthetic...

I hate leather...it pushes the SW up, gives me blisters and feels harsh (even worse with full poly stringjobs). I feel like much more shocking is going up my arm...

Yes, Nick, I have heard of personal preference. However, the OP never said that synthetic was his personal preference. He only said that he thinks he may like it better, but had concerns about the effect on grip size, racquet balance and sweat absorption.

bengt, you are correct. I don't necessarily like sythetic better. I have played with both. Actually my one pog that I like the most has an older leather grip on it...I mean older and I think it is thinner because it is worn down. It should definately be replace. I am stull exploring but I will probably just replace the leather and use tournagrip over it.

Good call.

I hammer in a small nail to attach the grip to the handle before I begin wrapping it. I do this because I don't own a staple gun, but hate how the grip rides up on the handle after time leaving that sticky residue. Also, it keeps me from having to overlap the grip so much at the bottom. The bulge that results from excessive overlappiing at the bottom really annoys me. Anchoring the grip in this way also allows me to pull it onto the handle tighter. In addition, I prestretch my leather grips.

If there's one part of the racquet that I'm very particular about, it's the grip.
