I may have team practice on Saturday - so sunday may not work for me. I've also been slacking big-time on my grad school work, so I have to get my behind back in gear and catch-up this weekend.

Haha, I almost forgot I was playing on the same USTA team as you! I just saw the email about practice this Saturday... isn't it supposed to rain though? I hope not, this would be a good warm-up for me since I have an ACTA league match on Sunday afternoon.

Now that the tennis season is starting up I need to find a place or someone who can string rackets for me... I don't think the Tennis Factory in Arlington is ever going to open back up.

Yeah JRK - I'm hoping the weather holds out. Hope to see you at practice, I'm sure you'll do fine.

I know some guys in Reston that string if you want me to ask or pass on your e-mail.

If you want to do a pro shop - there's Drilling Tennis in DC, but they charge and arm and a leg. Nice guys though.

p.s.s what is this blue gear thing everyone talks about

It's almost "Star" shaped string from Pro Supex. The ridges increase spin. Do a google search and you'll find more about it. TW doesn't carry it.

I have it in a hybrid in my racket. Think it might be a little to loose at this point.

hollywood swears to me that if you are looking for more spin - you should try sprinkling some of this on your racquet. also add some to your socks for more speed. maybe gargle with it too if you really wanna have an impressive chewbacca growl.

Yeah, I've been to Drillings before, and they are quite pricey... they always seem to have a long wait for rackets to be strung too. I'm not saying I need my rackets back the next day but the several times I've been there it's taken over 5 days. :(

I may have to take you or Sup up on the Reston offer although when I think of Reston I think of like... Canada. I'm kidding, I know it's not that far away. ;)

Speaking of far away, I just google mapped the courts where we're supposed to have our practice on Saturday, now that janks is far away! I'm gonna start driving tonight.

Yeah - It's out in Loudon County. It's not too bad since it's mostly highway.

If its in Loud. County, you can drop one racquet on the way, and pick it up afterwards. Usually takes me 20-30 minutes to finish it.. if need be.

What strings are you using.. and did you buy a new racquet?

I'm still playing with Alu Power on my old Ti Radicals. I tried to order a few MG Prestige Pro's from **** but those things are harder to come by then contraceptives in Britney Spear's house. I might just have to order from TW... which isn't really such a big deal for me.

I was thinking of switching strings though... the Alu is just a tad too harsh on my arm or maybe I just need to stop getting it strung at 62lbs. When I finally pick up some Prestige's I think I'll definitely need to switch strings as that racket felt stiffer than my Ti's.

The only reason I switched to Alu is because I kept breaking strings when I was using Technifibre NRG2.

Urban bbq? Chinese Buffet.

We definitely need to have the TW Todai trip. That is how I will show TFM, Sapient, El Presidente etc. that I shall hold the record for consumption of delicious foods.

wow this thread moved fast after i left the office yesterday.

JRstreaker -- i'll have to pass on tennis on thursday. i've got some league matches next week. i'll have to hear your chewbacca yell another time.

Sup -- grrrr. i can't see the videos. gimme a synopsis of what's in the video. i'll have to watch the videos at home.

sapient/pure prestige -- i wouldn't mind an urban bbq or chinese buffet or dim sum at all. i have been known to pack away an amazing amount of food (think kobayashi) for my midget size - i think i have tapeworm.

looking back from yesterday and I cant agree morewith TFM on this one. To increase spin take one 12 oz bottle of crytal hot sauce and mix with 1 bottle of JO. then you need to marinate the strings overnight to get the juice soaked in there. Works best with multifilament polies :). the JO gets imbedded in the strings and really grips them on contact. bonus if the hot sauce gets in your opponents eye balls.

On the serious is that blue gear anygood? looks decent, but how long do the nobbieslast? how does it compare to BB 5 Star or SPPP hextreme

TFM - please don't get low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low, ....

But you can wear a pink searsucker suit like Fat Joe???

Hmmmm.... the crappy Saturday forecast has your sunday 2pm offer looking more tempting. I can't do both practice and sunday... but I'm thinking the team meet will be rained out. Hmmmm..........

JRK - Up for some tennis next week? Maybe Wed or Thursday if the weather is good?

I haven't tried BB 5 star or SPPP hextreme.

I like it.

All I can say is that the string has a star shaped profile and the ridges on bluegear are noticable looking at the string and when you run your fingers over the string. I've played with Hurricane Tour and while it was suposed to be octogon shaped, it was hard to tell the difference.

Keep in mind that I only play about once a week, but I've had the string for about 5-6 weeks and there's not a lot of noticable wear and no notching in the crosses - but your milage may differ.

It offers plenty of spin and isn't to harsh IMHO. Right now, I have it in a hybrid with Goosen OG

It's worth a try if you like spin strings and it has a good price.

JRstriker12

Hall of Fame
Good to see there is a BG user out there :) There is also a little more pop with those strings and is not as harsh as some polys.

Yeah Mr. Han - I'm loving them.

I think they are best when fresh. My first hitting session with BG at worldgate, the top spin was just monsterous. I swear there were quite a few shots that I though were going long that dipped in at the last sec.

Yeah, Saturday isn't looking too good... heck, today isn't looking so good. Although I'm wondering if this area is like Hawaii where it can be pouring in one area and then sunny in another.

You might have to play weather man on Saturday and let me know how the weather is out in your neck of the woods. As far as playing on Wed or Thur, I'm down to play whenever, you work in DC right?

Yup - I work in DC. I'm flexible as long as the courts are metro accessable. I sent you an e-mail . Weather wise - Tuesday may be better.

IMHO - I don't think we get too much of that spotty thunderstorm thing. It's happend before, but I think most of the time, the whole area gets soaked.

Do any of you have an opinion on Blue Gear vs. Wilson's K Gut Pro or NXT Tour?

I wanted to return to natural gut after several years with NXT Tour, but my stringer talked me into trying the K Gut. Not sure if I'm getting the same spins as with NXT or the natural gut I once used.

Thanks for any input.

Hmmm... those strings are out of two different worlds. Blue Gear is not even close to being gut-like.

I think there's another pro supex string called maxim touch or something like that that maybe more gut like.

I'd only consider Blue Gear if:

A. You like spin/textured strings
B. Don't mind or don't have problems playing with poly

If you like a more gut-like feel, I would not play Blue Gear.

Haynes point is metro accessable with a 10 minute walk. There are a couple of courts on Captial Hill that are near a metro with a short walk also.

I'll take you up on the Howard courts offer in a week or two.

also the howard tennis team plays there often ~5pm but they don't take over all the courts. i caught them playing hampton college last week and there was a korean guy with an awesome 1hbh along with a powerful serve.

i don't know who writes for the howard tennis column but he/she must hate the school.

Howard's Christopher Brown defeated Sung-kwon Baek 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Neilabh Avasthi took down Quintin Logan, 6-2, 6-7, (10-8) for the two Bison victories of the day.

this is the match i caught. very entertaining match. both players were hitting very very deep with control. i say baek has better shots for serve and BH but didn't move as well maybe due to fatigue.

thought this was amusing. i have no doubt that any one of them and their waterboy and probably their parents could kick my arse around the tennis court all day long but at the end of the day they're just kids. i never got to play college tennis but i'm sure i wouldn't wanna see my high school tennis pics. good stuff.
