I have just playd with an premium hybrid:

main:ashaway crossfire 18 in low tension (20 kg)
cross:natural gut 16 (28 kg)

great control with feel and power
heavy top spin

it is probably not good for the frame to have 8 kg difference between your mains and crosses.

most say you should not vary more than a kilo or two at best.

kevlar does not stretch at all so the main kevlar string at 20 kg feel like 28 kg with a syntetic gut: conclusion i don't think there will be any problem with the frame

I would lean towards it having a bad effect on the frame, for this reason: The kevlar will lose tension faster than the natural gut, and it's already at a lower tension.

But, I'm not one to not string for this reason alone, as it take quite a difference to cause immediate or sudden structural breakdown.

it is not about how much it stretches....the frame is designed to have equal compression about the hoop, so having that much difference between mains and crosses means that you are changing the way the pressure is distributed in the frame. Most frames are designed to have the mains on first so they are stronger from head to throat, not side to side....so you are risking damaging the frame. Not to mention voiding the warranty of the racquet.

Yulitle, kevlar is a Twine at such low level it does not lose tension, at high tension yes

I have marked the strings at the grommet with black marker and monitor the string movement VS when I string at high tension, I can only speak for ashaway 18g

Blabit:
anyway I have strung 40 mains with 50 crosses for years with no damage, I have gone up to 70 crosses on some occasions, yes I am putting added stress but I am also playing better, and I really do not care about the warranty since these are my personal frames, If I were selling frames in a shop to customers and there are warranty issues then you are right.

Ok, you've established that you CAN string a racquet with such a high differential between the mains and crosses without damage...now the question is "why?" What is the advantage of such a high differential?

I've been using Ashaway Kevlar 17 and gut crosses for almost 10 years now. I've tried a lot of other setups and strings and always go back to this.

Glad to see someone else appreciate it-

I am not saying your frame is going to implode on you.....i just know it is not recommended. If it is working for you then by all means string yourself into oblivion and have fun doing it.

I don't do it for fun or to try new technical record but it's because the kevlar string is too tight when strung at 25 kg

at what tension do you string??

Could you explain this part better? Please? :D

I mark the strings with a black sharpie where they meet the grommet holes all around on the inside of the hoop, and I check how the strings are moving (into hole and out of hole) over time, some strings move more than others, this way I determine which string to string tighter or loser.

I'm using a blend of kevlar mains (from a set of Prince Problend) and natural gut crosses on my Aeropro Drive. I string both mains and crosses at 54lbs and it plays very nice, if a bit unforgiving. I was surprised that dropping from my usual tension of 60lbs and using gut in the cross didn't make for a more comfortable hit, but my goal was a setup that maintains tension and playability until breaking. So gut and kevlar seemed like the way to go. Try it!

Edit: the strings don't move around much either, at least not yet.
