MIGHTY MANFRED THE WONDER
Semi-Pro
I like your videos.
If you had read anything within a number of pages above this, then you would know the answer.has the OP entered any futures tournaments lately?
Thanks. The recent ones are from a really fun tournament. I won it, and about two weeks later is when my injury happened.I like your videos.

However, just recently I have been able to start playing close to normal again. I had a cortisone injection in my wrist in late April which allowed me to start hitting two-handed backhands again. Also, a HUGE update for me is that just a few days ago I tried serving overhand again, and although I cant hit it my hardest, I am able to hit functioning overhand topspin and kick serves. Hopefully I will continue to gradually heal and one day be without any soreness or pain. Either way I feel like I can soon start to play my best tennis again. I am entering several Open tournaments this summer, some with total prize money in the $6000-$15,000 range, and I should have a good chance to go deep if im playing well. Might possibly play the Milwaukee Futures in August.

You are defined in life by what you accomplish. So if you never compete at a high level then you don't understand where you fall in the ability range.
If your level is closer to Tony's then you should be playing regularly with people who have creds, former satelite and college players, and you should be demolishing the vast majority of players whom you meet.
Have you ever seen yourself on video?
I know that you would get destroyed in a good open draw because it is a level of play that you cannot reach without competing seriously against quality players. If you could play competitive sets against the pros who coach you, who have/had creds, or you practiced regulary with top tier current/former ranked players.
If you practiced competitively with other 5.0-6.0 players, you would know that you weren't a 3.5.
If you just practice and play with your buddies, and think that you look like, or are approaching the level of Tony, then I fear that you are sadly mistaken.
Feel free to prove me wrong, if you post vids showing comprable level of play or Open tourney results, then I will gladly eat my words, and owe you a beer.
I plan to be in Lauderdale for the 08 Open Clay Court Nats, so we can meet up for a hit, and I will pick up the tab for lunch if you prove me wrong.

tony are you doing everything possible to keep your wrist good?
ice after no matter what?
no sleeping on that arm or wrist?
switching to as healthy food as possible?
blood electrofication?
high quality nutritional supplements?
massage?
To be honest I guess I cant say that I have. Between teaching/feeding and playing tennis alot since February when I could start doing things again with my wrist, and combined with time, it has gotten alot better in reduced pain and soreness. I havent done really much at all of the physical therapy exercises I was told to do at home since that time, which is probably a bad thing, although I feel all the tennis has got to have made my wrist stronger in a similar way, if not more so. I never ice either, and they told me I could. I try to eat fairly healthy but I dont eat alot of fruit and some other things they say are really good for you. I take a multi-vitamin in the morning (Centrum) and I occasionally use accelerade or hydromax with water. The massage and electrofication I havent really considered at all. If youve got any info on anything youre talking about id be very grateful.
Nice strokes..
You look like you'd be very hard to beat in a match, very solid!
He needs to get fit to enter the open tournaments and itf futures
Hi Tony,
You really should do your PT excercises, ice, and get massage. Does your orthopod have any other specific advice for you concerning supplements to promote healing?
Best,
CC
On the video of the tournament, that's the strangest location for a tennis court. Who came up with that idea?

yeah if your not doing these things, can you really expect to get better? sadly no.
btw " centrum vitamin is like wearing flip flops to play tennis. no quality foundation
supplements: go to a health food store, gnc would be the min quality
multi(go to a health food store, and tell them you want a whole food grade full spectrum multi), expect to pay 20-60 a month for quality
msm 1000-3000 mg a day
glucosimine/condroitin (i cant spell)
extra calcium as recommend on bottle
ice after no matter what
do your exercises.
you got where your at by not doing the right thing health wise, so until you decide to do all you can, expect to injure the wrist again
UPDATED First, here are links I made of me hitting groundstrokes in about 2004 or so for a guy that does video analysis. I have gotten alot better since then in terms of hitting a much more aggressive ball and maintaining the consistency, and below these is a recent tournament video in 2007.
backhands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGR1n0Xhvvk Disregard blank blue screen for first 10"
forehands: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRj1mV6n-VU
backhand flatter drives and some slices: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqbbYVl2Fqg

New- Here I finally got video uploaded from a tournament final I played last summer, 2007. These are the two tiebreaks of the match, and we had some good points. Unfortunately you can usually only see one player from the camera angle, but you still get a good feel for the match and what my game is like.
1st set serving at 5-6 and tiebreaker

3rd set match tiebreaker to 10

Comment if you like I guess. Im now a 5.5 out of college and playing Open tournaments for cash and trying to do something in the Futures if I ever heal my wrist someday.
There are a number of TT-ers whose opinions I highly respect who scoff at using ANY food supplements. That being said, I agree with most of what HappAnd posted.... I havent had any doctor or therapist reccomendations. I would love any advice you can give me, and would be very grateful if it can help me at all. For starters, what do you recommend in place of a Centrum multivitamin?
Yeah. My son worked at GNC. Their "training" is a joke, but I'd agree their supplements are at the "threshold" of what's good. (GNC is the minimum of "good".)supplements: go to a health food store, gnc would be the min quality
Good suggestion.multi(go to a health food store, and tell them you want a whole food grade full spectrum multi), expect to pay 20-60 a month for quality
Glucosamine, yes. I am part of the "camp" that believes Chondroitin is merely "filler". But if you want to spend your money on it, go ahead....glucosimine/condroitin (i cant spell)
Calcium is a really important supplement ... and one of the biggest "scams" in the industry at the same time. (Most of the commonly advertised calcium supplements are phony, IMO.)extra calcium as recommend on bottle
And how many courts are there... or only one?It is pretty much the signature tournament for the Northern Section. It uses a sport court surface on a patio outside an office building towntown. The light rail and two busy streets are right by the court. Each match is umpired and gets new balls after 7 and 9 games. It really is a sweet tournament, I got an invite to play this year but I don't think I'm good enough.
Actually when I say I got an invite, I mean I got an invite to pay $75 to play qualifying.

Centrum, Chocks, Wal-Mart supplements ... are more of a waste of money than a benefit. Save your money. (And know if you plan to take supplements, the good ones tend to be more expensive. BUT ... many of the MLM plans (where you commit to "super-orders" on an automatic Credit Card purchase) are ALSO a rip-off, IMO.

I'm no doctor. I've managed a multi-doc Chiropractic clinic and I've been living a holistic-type lifestyle for over 20 years. And I try to keep up with advances in supplementation. (Those are my "credentials," which are not "much".)
Here's a partial list of supplement brands I think are generally effective ... in no particular order:
MicroNutra Health ... [order direct]
Mannatech ... [An MLM, but they really are good.]
... (The 1st is some folks who thought the 2nd's stuff was over-priced. The 2nd has sued the 1st about three times. "Family infighting.")
Alacer
Rainbow Light
Schiff
Nutri-West
TwinLab
We buy a lot of our stuff through LuckyVitamin.com. They have pretty good prices. (I'm sure there are other discount sources.)

Yes. SP is very high quality ... but I didn't know they produced vitamins. "You learn something new every day."Are you familiar with the Standard Process brand? Are they good vitamins? Thanks!
Like I posted, some other TT-ers who I respect don't agree with me either. (The vitamin and supplement market is HUGE. It's part of the reason the Pharmas are trying to get the FDA to regulate them. Cuz Pharmas would get that whole market.)... vitamins did nothing when compared to placebo.
Yeah. Calcium Carbonate is a common formulation. So is Calcium Citrate. The body absorbs them differently ... and "Joe" and "Jim" may assimilate different ones better. The balancing thing is also important (Na, K, Mg, etc.). The good supplement brands do it more right than wrong.I know that Ca from supplements is not efficiently absorbed by the body, 90% would go down the drain literally .

I thought all they did was mineral and enzyme products. (I use one of their digestive enzymes any time I eat meat or fried food ... which isn't often.)
Last I knew you could only order SP if you were a licensed healthcare provider ... so I get mine from my Doctor of Chiropractic.

Where can i get more info? I need to fix my game.
We have had adults practice in with our best juniors before too
TonLars, can I put you on the spot and ask a question? Another thread was saying that Venus Williams would beat Nadal on a hard court. I read once that at the highest levels the sexes are about 1.0 apart. So a 7.0 woman is about even with a 6.0 man. Since you're an improving 5.5 or 6.0 you must have some insight into this. How would you do against a world ranked woman? Have you ever played highly skilled women players?
Heh, Tony, I see you just played in a tourney in Winnipeg. I have a friend who's playing in it as well (our top-ranked junior). He got spanked 2 and 1 by Steckley.
Small world after all.
Hey Tony,
Awesome videos! You are quite the player...
What frames are you currently swinging? Any modifications to them..
I would like to pick your brain if you don't mind regarding equipment.
Best,
Hey Tony -
Great news on the recovery and all you've shared with us. Injuries are indeed buggers to deal with, but I bet you've recharged your competitive desire during the recovery, and will perform above and beyond where you left off before your injury. Turned 50 last fall and feel like I've been dealt just about every injury/physical ailment card in the book, but, I'm still playing and trying to enjoy. Cortisone shots in knuckles, wrists, shoulders keep the juices flowing, although it sounds like carpal tunnel work, with rotator cuffs to follow, is due sometime by the end of the year. But, onward is the key word, eh? Could be worse, I guess...take care in any case. Walleye in Duluth. Westmont 77-78.
Thankyou!
I use Flexpoint Radical Oversize. No modifications. Its an unusual racket for where im at but ive always used oversize so ive never bothered to change.
Wait a second.....you don't use any modifications? You're a 3.5 at best until you add lead to your 90 sq. in frame, you know.....
This is true, hopefully I can move up to 4.0 if I switch to a mid-plus!!
Have you ever been to the Aquatennial tournament? That is starting up here this week and next, its a pretty cool atmosphere, if you ever stop by for a match make sure to say hi sometime before or after.
I haven't been there. Are the matches during the day? I could swing up there on my lunch break.
Are you in the draw this year? If so, when are your matches?
