Speaking of funny faces.. I see you like that pic I sent of Sebastian. Nice avatar.

P.S. You know he and some other hair bands come to Nissan during the summer. If you want to go.. we go.. get drunk.. relive the good ole days, where bands didnt have alpha numeric names and we didn't feel dated talking to TheJRK and JRS about hip hop..

P.S. I still think of cute bunnies when they say Hip Hop.. now try to image what I'm thinking when they say Urban Rap *insert TFM joke*.

Ooh yeah, they look tizz-ight!!! I should've bought about 20 pairs of the old Zoom Air Implosion (Mid) in black. Best shoe ever... these look a lot like those. I wonder if they'll feel the same. I'll just put-off getting the black Vapor Vs for now and wait until these bad-mama-jamas come out.

*Double EDIT* Auzzie - I'm sure you've seen this site before... you better hope your restaurant business takes off.

https://www.tennis******.com/racquets.htm blocked out word starts with "M" and rhymes with "tennis".

Yeah thats the jerk who sold me heavy grommets for $60. I have given him enough money during my lifetime. I am starting to think I only like the yellow/blue donnays, a little more flexy, softer than the newer ones, and 10x harder to find. That guy only sells orange/grey refurbished frames.

I'm sitting this one out...but was thinking I may come out and watch, and if I do, I'd rather watch someone I know!

Good luck!!!!

That would be awesome!

Yeah I got two bagel pro sets (8-0) for my first two matches today. First round was #15 on the ACTA ladder, Second round was #7 on the ACTA ladder. Both decent players.

Then ran into an extremely good player from Ashburn. He is on Eugenius's level, and might be able to give Sup a good run for his money. More topspin than me, bigger kick on serve than me, more power than me, forehand, backhand, everything seemed better. I raced out to a 3-0 lead, then had break points for 4-0, but he held and went ahead 4-3. That's when those negative thoughts started to creep in. We proceeded to go game for game until he went ahead 5-4. I then won three games in a row for 7-5. Served for the match and was broken, then was able to break him to take it 8-6. Just started going for broke to pressure him that final game. Somehow it worked.

So semifinals tomorrow: Bluemont Park @ 12 pm. Anyone is welcome to watch :) and maybe even help me warm up.

Good job Mark on your comeback win.

Help me out. I know my buddy Frank A. is playing in an ACTA tournament this weekend, and it's a NTRP 4.0 tournament. Is that the one you are in?

If so, can you tell me how Frank did?

Good luck tomorrow.

Edit: I shouldn't put his full name on the boards. Topaz, can you look up Big Frank's result in the 4.0s?

Was this the guy you were playing with when I dropped a racquet off at lake Newport that one time? I thought I may have seen him, don't know his results though.

*EDIT* Saw a name on the list similar to the one you mentioned. He is at the top of the draw. I am not sure how he has done.

*EDIT^2* I don't think he made it past the 2nd round. I know the semifinalist in that portion of the draw, and I don't think the semifinalist played your friend in the last round either.

Yes the Big.. Frank. He mentioned a 4.0 tournament in ACTA and it just dawned on me it could be the same one you are in. So curious about his results.

Does this tournament have different NTRP levels?.. like say Shiloh? Is there an Open with prize money? Figure after my morning clinic, if the competition is worthy I may bring my fold out chair and see the big boys play.

well its a charity tournament, so I doubt prize money. There was a 3.5 and up draw and a 4.0 and up draw for men's and women's.

Good win Mark. I knew you would kick some behind. These fast feets of yours are serious weapons in their own right - big shots are no good when they keep coming back. Good luck tomorrow.

Oh i get it now. You and Frank are in the same 4.0^ tournament.

I'll contemplate packing a six pack and going out to watch. Vitaly are you going? If so do you have Lux Flouro you can sell? I rather not order one pack if you want to sell or trade for something.

Thanks

Yes, Sup, it is BF...the draws haven't been updated online so I don't know how he did. He's on the other half of the draw from Auzzie.

Oh, I still have my Somdev picture!

Had quite the interesting mixed match tonight. Played a 4.0 guy and 3.0 girl...no *way* she played like a 3.0. *sigh* There seems to much more of this in the mixed levels than at just regular women's leagues.

Anyway, we had great beginning. They served, I ripped a FH down the line. Surprised everyone, including myself. That was the highlight of the first set (other than me holding my serve once). Actually the only time I lost my serve was when I was serving 1-4. We lost the game, but the other team thought that was the set. I said no. It took awhile, but I finally was able to show them that we had one more game to play....the serve order when 3.0 girl, me, 4.0 guy, my partner. So, if I had just served, and it was only the second time...we had only played 6 games. Doesn't take a math major. Anyway, we go back out, play one more game, and lose. Ugh. 1-6

Second set, my partner started reading returns a bit better (he's a super fast guy, but hits a lot into the net), and I actually get my racquet on a few serves, and it was tight! I was serving 3-5, and no way was I dropping this game! Held serve *again*...I was on a roll.

Then, of course, we lost 4-6. *sigh* I felt like I played pretty well though, especially from the baseline...I was getting the 4.0 guy's shots back. He actually tried to recruit me for their team when my partner was off getting some water. That's two recruitments in one week actually. Not sure though, especially since after these double matches, with the exception of playing with JRS, I come off thinking 'boy, I wish I could play singles'!!!

*sigh*

Way to stick in there Topaz. I know losing stinks but it sounds like you had a good game. I've never gone over to another player who I thought sucked and asked them to join my team.

Dubs is only fun when you have a partner who's a good fit playing style-wise and personality wise. If you lose a match 0-6, 0-6 and can look at your partner, and say "meh.... we'll get them next time, here are some things we need to work on," and you actually work on those things, then that's a good partner. If you walk off court and want to chop your partner to pieces, put the pieces in their tennis bag and throw the bag into the Potomac, then you prob aren't a good fit. ;)

I actually had a season where I teamed up with a friend. We were getting crushed big time at the beginning of the season, but we kept working at it and got gradually better. Then we won our last three matches of the season after some work. It was a good team, then he moved.... bummer.

let me know if you trek out Sup. wouldn't mind seeing some good tennis. looked up the draw and recognize a lot of names from leagues. looks like mostly 4.0 players with a few 3.5's and 4.5's in the mix. oh and also - i know you're not a doctor but i think you may have played one on tv. my right elbow arm pain is back. is it possible that it's my crappy dunlop cheapy racquets? i've never had this pain before. wrist problems with poly and stiff racquets but this is redonkulous. i'd like to demo your kblade 98 one more time for a bit because that never hurt me. if it doesn't hurt me -- well then i'm throwing these dunlops away.

auzzie - grats on the wins. if you played that guy with the initials DC -- i've seen him around before in NOVA. very solid player. could probably play 4.5 leagues if he doesn't get bumped up. i'm curious to see who made it through the upper side of the draw.

Yeah he said USTA hasn't bumped him in 3 years despite him winning all the time.

Sup, i used up the flouro on the YY RQisT1L.
(specs seem VERY similar to Cyber Blade Tour Thermaxe 123 which is much cheaper...)

Auz, good job man... you should beat those guys, but not giving up a game is really impressive. If I had more confidence in my serve I would play one of these chumpies. I don't think I am doing anything at noon, so I could prolly walk down to Bluemont.

call me Auz if you need to warmup. no TXT!!!

Who are you playing Auz? 3 Acta guys in the other group.. gaston/pham/niksub... Only know 1 guy in the other section. "Niksub"..good server, but doubt he made it through that far.

Nah, you're Rudy with skill. But like Rudy, you are relentless - gotta shoot ya to beat ya! You're Paul Crew at the end of The Longest Yard (the original with Burt Reynolds, not the sorry remake with Opera Man).

I actually had vietnamese in between my matches too. It was phenomenal.

I ended up winning my semifinal match today against a guy who was all serve. Just two first serves each time. Really hard to read and return. I had trouble converting break points at the start, then we traded breaks at 4-4. So next we went holding serve until the final game. He was serving to stay in the match, then the pressure started getting to him. I was able to break to win 8-6. Tough guy to play- absolutely no rhythm.

Then I had my vietnamese lunch, and came back for the final.

The guy who made the final is one of the best players I have ever played against. He played lights out tennis. Big serves, big returns, big groundies, extremely solid net game, great touch. I never found a weakness, and he was playing so well, I hardly had a chance to play any shots by choice. I was just reacting the whole match. He took the final 6-3, 6-1. And my weekend is over. Thanks for all the support! All the encouraging words. Thanks Vitaly for warming me up today. Thanks Topaz, Sup, Sap, and Vitaly for watching. And last but not least, thanks again to Vitaly for murmuring "go dukes". I ignored to stay focused on playing, but I heard. I appreciate it.

On a side note, I played every match this weekend with yellow/blue Donnay. Thank god it lasted for 5 matches. But I wonder if I could have had more of an effect on the outcome of the final if I played with a different racquet....

There was a side bet that you would switch racquets. Apparently everyone lost!

Also that semifinal opponent you had was rolling in aces. To double fault a couple times at the end was anti-climatic. I wanted some more drama.

Unfortunately the only entertainment then was watching a huge FAT squirrel gingerly walk by. So thank gosh for that.

P.S. I have lots and lots of video. So if you want them thats fine, if you want me to post the matches on here thats fine (I wont speed it up though) and lastly.... SAPPY!

Sappy,.. tell the audience what we saw twice during our exit of the 3rd world country. I fear telling it would make me sounds like I was stereotyping... so it best come from an asian.. but it was sure funny.. poor little guy.

you played great Auz. that is a lot of matches in 2 days.
that guy in the finals, (Stefan Koubek!) was a beast.
huge hitter and with a lead he was that much tougher
because he could hit out and take chances.

don't take it out on ol'Yeller! you gotta dance with the girl that brung ya!
my advice, which is worth more than gold, is to work
on a bigger 1st serve.
most of your competition, and me, mess up with your consistent
kicker, but that guy ate it up and knew what was coming.
if the Oz-man could get a few more free points on serve and keep
opponents guessing a little more on 1st serve with what is coming,
the trophy case would be overflowing.

If the rest of TWMAC could get a SMOOTH 2nd serve kicker like Auz, and Auz had a JRK/Vitaly/Hollywood crusher, we would all be at least .5 level better. But Auz still shows that consistency and spin wins out over power and flat.

Congrats to Auz for a great weekend of tennis.

worst case scenario, buy a 72 flex rating Pure Drive Plus and just frying pan serve down the T. and step a few inches over the service line!

Auzzie, you did great!!! And, you played a *ton* of tennis this weekend! I did have some regrets of not playing when I saw some of the competition, but I wasn't willing to take a chance on the weather.

And yes, your SF opponent was foot faulting....edited to add: or maybe not. I don't know enough to say really. I was too busy trying not to freeze to death.

PS...took me two tries to finish my Spanish this afternoon, as I fell asleep (*bonk*) halfway through. Though, I can now say: Hace mucho frio!!!!
