Any luck with a lower tension on the 280?

I just cut out the PSGD and actually replaced the grommet and headguard (i.radical MP) and it fit perfect! I will re-string tomorrow night.
I have Gosen Sheep 17g. I normally string 58#'s. You suggest 52 #'s? I will play Friday and let you know.:)

guys. i need help...

i just purchased 2 pro tours... one 630 and another 690... theyr desperately need new grommets.

the 630 says 18x19 string pattern?
isnt it a 18 x 20?

the 690 is 16x19?

what grommets should fit them? i guess any radical os should fit the 690. but the 630... hum...?

contact vsbabolat. he will know.

I used the TT radical grommets (i.radical MP) on the 280 and they fit perfect, so I will get another for my TT Radical. For some reason I have a LM radical MP grommet...I don't know why I bought it. Anyone know what other racquets it will fit?

funny... i compared the radical grommets (i have a few) and they fit... but i have no 630 grommets to try...

it says 18x19 in the throat but it has 8 holes in the bridge! so my guess is that its a missprint. could it be?

misprints wouldn't surprise me. i have a trisys260 with string tension at 63 +/- 5! if you could pick up some mg prestige mp grommets, they should work.

Grommets that TW has that will fit the PT280:

Any Prestige MP CAPS
Any Rad MP grommets, with the caveat that the Ti,i, LM, FP Rad bumpers will hang off a bit because of the thicker beam of the Radicals. The MG for some reason fits flush.

The 18x19 is definitely a misprint -- jayserinos99 and I both have Trisys 260s (same mold as the PT280) that have "16x19" printed as the string pattern. Go figure.

head mp frames typically have the same drill pattern and mold so they should fit. the only concern i'd have is the well where the grommets would fit; if it doesn't fit flush, the grommets may come up short.

thanks to everyone who replied to my questions.

what a strange thing and what are the odds you buy 2 different spec frames and both come with missprints. anyway, im looking forward to refurbish them both, and keep the OS...

I suggest you go directly to the pro's/racquet companies for advice. heaven forbid that one of us human sub 7.0 players give you any faulty advice and hinder you from reaching your full potential!

Dude, go to the radical thread and stay there. No one cares about all you personal experiences with all the racquets you have played with. For some odd reason you think we enjoy your day-to-day updates--especially on racquets that are NOT the PT630 or especially your cry-baby bs about your injuries. That stuff is for you to tell people in your immediate environment, so they can suffer--not us.

Honestly, I hate to be such a jerk. But you have to realize you are not some racquet expert just because you have played with a couple of racquets. Nor are you any tennis expert just because you play tennis. You need to realize that posting or responding is for benefit of the reader--not because you like to read your own text online. Good luck.

Could not have said it better myself. It took me a few days to read this thread and Hyogen was a major distraction. This thread is NOT about the Radicals. Great points.

haha, you have me figured out eh? sorry if you don't like my day to day updates and my injury bs. i'm just so cool so I like to read the words that i write! I go around telling people I'm a racquet expert and tennis expert right? at least I post videos of me playing so you can take my advice with the right perspective. Go ahead and command me to stay out of this thread.. Demand TW to ban me from this thread because for now I've settled down on a radical (as of only a month or so). IF you have power tripping issues, I suggest you give orders to those you actually have authority over. So what if I talk about my injuries and experience some on these boards - who are you to say no one ever benefits whatsoever from them?

Azzurri, we are all confident that with your 6 years of playing with the elite TT radical, you will use that experience to go on winning Wimbledon someday. Are you really so pompous that you're not willing to hear someone say that they hit similarly with a tt rad / pt280 very similarly - even when they have the same mold, same string pattern, same shape, same head size, same company? I suggest you go around looking for people who claim they play similarly with two different racquets with less than 4-5 same qualities!

talk about being a crybaby......

Dude, that's ridiculous. By your logic, the Trisys 260 MP, which is same mold, string pattern, shape, head size, company AND composition, should be damned near identical to the Pro Tour 280. It isn't. Not even close.

aren't we splitting hairs here? is it unlawful for anyone to say they're similar? my logic? I didn't predict that I would play similarly with the tt radical and the pt280. I predict that I would play similarly with the trisys 260mp too. you can cry bloody murder if I say something like the pure storm plays the same as a prestige

Onyx, its not worth argueing with an illogical person. I noted in another post that after reading an entire 1,000 post thread, it was obvious that Hyogen is clueless about racquets, clueless about the game and certainly clueless about his body. I noted very simply I would no longer converse with him. I think the only way to get this thread back to the PT 280/630 is to ignore him. The Radical TT is a completely different racquet. Its not something I will argue and you made a point that the Trysis 260 was also different, yet he continues. It will never end, ignore him.

Back to what this thread is supposed to be about. I was surprised how easily the i.Radical grommets fit. Did someone mention these are lighter than the original grommets? It looks like I will go with a full Gosen string job at 52#'s. I am also thinking of putting on a leather grip to bring the HL up a point.

Has anyone played a full gut job with the 280?

I leave you boys for few days and you are fighting, tsk tsk, I am the only one that can do the fighting around here, just kidding, back on topic

I tried all gut with the PT and it was powerful, again I did not like it with any gut that was above 1.20mm basically most of them. I did however like it with pacific prime 18g and Bow 18g at low tension, even then they did not last much. 18g natural gut at low tension in mains with 18g cyberflash might do the trick since it will not eat through the mains, anyone

My fav 630 right now is strung with toughgut 16 mains and cyberflash 17 crosses at what feels like the low 40s/high 30s. I have about 6-7 hours on this setup and the gut is notched about halfway through in the sweetspot, so I imagine it'd be almost through on an 18g gut at that time.

They'll fit, but it'll look funky because of the ridges.

OK..I will just get another i.radical grommet for the TT Radical.

I strung up the PT 280 with a full Lux M2 job (55#'s main and 52#'s cross). I will be playing tonight. Will keep you posted!

Anyone got an opinion on duraflex @ 57 mains and crosses in a PT 280?

Ross, I actually cut out the Prince SG with Duraflex in my PT 280 (strung at 58#'s). The string just did not feel right. I was not able to creat spin and it seemed to have very little power (I hit too many shots into the net). I just did not like it. It could have been the tension as Onyx pinted out. I like my Gosen Sheep much better that the PSGD. I have also heard from some posters including PT 630 that the Duraflex is crap. I loved the Prince Original string from the 80's. I will be trying Forten Sweet as my next string job on the PT 280.

Hey guys i need a little help, i just acquired a Pro Tour 630 and it's in pretty good condition, apart from not having any grommets or bumper guard, it's just the bare frame.

I understand any Prestige MP grommets will fit the frame but where can i get hold of the bumper guard?

This might be a stupid question if the bumper guard comes with the grommets, i really don't know because i've never had to change grommets on any racquet.

Thanks for the help.

No worries, man! Congrats on the purchase. The bumper guard is attached to the grommets, so to say. You don't have to worry about buying them separately.

Sweet, thanks for that. Stupid question i know...

I had three Pro Tour 630's about 5 years ago and they played sweet... i bought them off this guy at a junior tournament and one of them had a normal bumper guard on just the head of the racquet, and the other two had a Prestige-style guard all the way around the head. I never dared mess with any of them cos they played sweet and there really wasn't a noticeable difference in weight.

Then some low-life stole them from my tennis bag at another tournament 2 years ago. I had 10 racquets in the bag and he took the 3 pro tours. the dirtbag knew what he wanted.

Anyway, what is the original bumper guard for the Pro Tour 630, is it the normal head-only style, or the uber-cool all the way around the head Prestige style?

Has anyone played a full gut job with the 280?

I bought a 630 with Pacific gut 17 (Classic or Prime, don't recall at the moment) strung in the mid 50s. Compared to my regular setup of gut mains, Isospeed crosses, it felt a little more softer but wasn't overly powerful. If I were to do a full gut job, I normally prefer BDE Perf 17 now, so I'd go with that at 52-54 lbs.

I played the PT 280 with full Lux M2 (55 m and 52 c). The bottomline is the racquet is soft, has great feel. Other than that...nothing special. I will keep the racquet for now, but anyone that paid $600 for this racquet is an absolute moron. I have played many racquets and this racquet is not at all bad. It's solid, had good feel. But the balance and weight (for me) was not good. I actually played the TT radical for a few games last night and still liked it better. I had better pace and accuracy on both wings...but surprisingly the serve was a tad better w/PT. My Radical is strung with Gosen Sheep. But I am in the process of re-stringing the Radical with full M2 (my last pack). I think the extra spin I got from this string on my PT would do nicely on my Radical. I will say this, the PT did feel better with Lux M2 than the PSGD....I know its a poly, but it just felt better.

When I do get the Forten I will try it, but again something about the PT just does not agree with me.

Oh..almost forgot. The TT Radical is not at all like the PT 280. They feel different, swing different and are just not at all alike.

Sorry to hear. I really think the PT is an acquired taste--ussually for those who grew-up playing with it. Too many people get caught in the "hype" after reading these forums and hearing about all the pro pj frames based on these older head molds. To each his own.

Azzuri, the PT280 you have is probably a made in china PT or an Austrian on the side. These PT's are very heavy and almost even more than 32cm, they are not for everybody and in general PT's are very finicky when it comes to setup. you can really change the balance of these frames to more HL and lower SW, if you give it more time and patience.

you can not give up on a frame with one or two setups in few weeks. that is not enough time to assess a frame. try an 18g string like NRG18g, put lead on buttcap, remove bumper, etc.... play around with it, who knows. you want instant out of the box performance and wow factor try a PC600 or even a PD.

It seems you like radicals, these Pt's are simply heavier. If you like a very maneuverable and stiffer PT's try iprestige MP's

Lastly people who pay $600 for plastic still on grip PT630 with made in austria above the grip are not going to play with it. It is more for collection purposes. If they got the cash they can pay whatever they like.

I would never buy any frame even if it was made out of diamonds for $600 if I were going to play them because they break.

Thanks for the advice PT. I appreciate it. I actually had these same thought (more time and patience). I played it again this past Sunday. I am going to put a leather grip on it for starters. Once I re-string, I will remove the headguard. I like this grommet kit because it allows you to keep the grommet strips w/out the headguard (they are seperate..the headguard only has holes for the grommets to go through..i.Radical kit). I still think its a string issue. I am not impressed with the Lux M2. I tried Polylon in my TT and it just has more bite on the ball.

This version is "Made in Austria". This is stamped on the side. This is a heavy version? Which one is the lighter version?

Yes, I meant paying $600 to play this racquet is too much money, especially if the reason you are buying it is from other people's opinions. I payed $120. I know they go for much more. I would not pay any more than that.

they will make a terrible trio with my prestige and radicals... :)

So on the Por Tour 630, will any Prestige MP CAP grommets fit in, or does it have to be from a specific model? i.e. LM, Intelligence etc.

Hello,

which grommets cap and non-cap will i be able to find or order that will fit the frame?
I am sure it has been said more than 1000 times...
thanks 1000 times in advance!

I'm having trouble understanding you, you seem to play well with the TT and the mg prestige, the pt 630 doesnt seem to mesh well with your game, it seems like your making to much of an effort to like this racquet, you seem to not like the balance and you own racquets whos balance favor more your style, my advice to you is to stick with the racquet you feel most comfortable with, or else youre going to be losing a match with the pt630 and start thinking about switching to your favorite racquet in the middle of a set, that type of second guessing will cost you matches,

This racquet is not for everyone, like mentioned earlier some of us grew up with this racquet, I did so to me this is what a tennis racquet feels like, I really dont know any better, the pt is my weapon of choice, I get the impression yours is the TT radical, stick with your instincts my friend

hi guys

i've landed my hands on a pt630, but i didn't find it weighty enough, so i went with 10 grams of lead at the 3 and 9.

to maintain the original balance of the racquet, how should i go about counterweighting that 10 grams?

can i simply remove the leather replacement grip, and twirl 10 grams of lead near the butt of the racquet to achieve this?

please advise, thanks!
