Towels

Where I live we have had a few MRSA outbreaks and we are told never to share towels. You often see pros hand towels to the ballkids and then take them back after every point. Is this safe? If I were a ballkid I would not touch anyones sweaty towel (even Martas).

Umm in my knowledge sweat doesn't absorb thorugh the skin. Mercury would, sweat no. As long as the towels aren't used in specific areas of the body *hint hint which most pros dont during a match it should be fine.

It typically takes a break in the skin to get it. Additionally it is also typically from bacteria in dirty environments like astro turf or actual dirt that gets into a wound. The ball kids could be exposed to viruses and such, but MRSA is not a real concern in that environment unless the aforementioned is involved.

Wow some people are worried about the wrong things for sure. I wouldn't ever give this a thought. It's a towell...I mean what are the odds of getting something from it. I imagine anyone worried about such things probably uses that hand sanitizer crap all the time too.

i'm just tired of watching it every point, though i've thought of the health aspect too....another thing to slow down play, and i know it's humid in miami, but what about all the sweatbands and headbands they wear...my favorite moment this week, one player, can't remember whom, hands the racket to the ballkid in exchange for the towel so they could get a two-arm rubdown

MRSA is commonly found in health care facilities, not very common in other places. It's hardly worth being concerned about. On the other hand, "flesh eating" strep infections....now THERE'S something to be concerned about!
