Okay guys,

When: April 11th (Saturday) 12-4
Where: Skyline Sport and Health, Baileys Crossroad (5115 Leesburg Park, Falls Church, VA 22041)
What: Tennis, food and round robin

i need at least 3 good reasons why i should drive for over an hour, to virginia, no less, for this. if i don't get 3 good reasons (n.b.), me and my ne plus ultra fila skirt & cranberry-pecan oatmeal cookies are staying put right here in md.

...never mind; i'll even put out for the first two:

1. pho at eden center
2. to encourage topaz to consume sugar--i just can't stand it when people deny themselves joy...
3. ???

so. just. one. good. reason.......go!

(n.b.) subject to judgement by me; no points will be rewarded for puns, onomotopaeias, nor for generic & uninspired flaming of my brattiness.

Quoted on behalf of Sappy.......

TFM,

The director came over last night and plopped a new unstrung Tecnifibre 320 on my desk. Said she noticed i ordered some before and wanted to see an end to me putting ice on my shoulder.

I told her about the bet. She called us both immature guys, stuck 25 bucks in my hand, told me to pay you. She then took my racquet today and gave it to another pro. Said "there, now you are out".

So like that.. I'm out. You get your 25 bucks or free strings.

Funny part, is the other pro who got the racquet just hit the teacher cart during a lesson and put a huge gash on the side. I think he hates the racquet as well.

If the tecnifibre plays like the APDC like you said it does, then I'm going to like it.

So there you go. Cornered by a 5'0 fillipino women who doesn't take no for an answer: "thats what she said". LOL.

3. Tennis
4. Tennis for 3-4 hours at $20 bucks with food on court
5. To show off your outfit to Topaz and the boys
6. I told myself that if 1 more person from MD joins up, I'm going to have the next meet in MD. This confirms our next meet will either be in Gaithersburg, Frederick or even somewhere in Howard County .. prob July. Now if you don't show then no "soup" for you.
7. If you don't show.. endless "kiss my grits" jokes can't be used on court. What will Sap do without his Flo?
8. You seem like a cool person, and I think you will love the jibber jabber tennis fun. Besides, lots of tournaments your way. You may need a partner.

You'll meet Lady Topaz, a really nice lady and good player and a bunch of really good looking young guys who know how to play tennis. And you'll also meet Sappy, who is also young. :)

Okay, I can't stand it anymore...

alice301 = TheJRK

yeah...you wish. reminds me of the steve martin movie where he says something to the effect of, if he were a woman, he'd never leave his house, ever, because he'd be too busy feeling himself up...

topaz, i too am a fan of the neutrogena sunscreen, but! first of all, i have toxic-chemical-phobia, and second of all, it makes my face feel claustrophobic because it can't sweat, which makes me sweat *even more* (take a moment to visualize andy roddick's dripping hat here). so maybe i should just suck it up and buy a pink hat to match my pink bra?

JRS, if it is canceled due to weather, then they will post it on the website. You should also hear from your captain if that happens.

the sup cant hook us up with free indoor time?! boo

now i am in the mood for pho.

Excuse me? 20 plus people, more than one court, and indoor for four hours...for 20 bucks a person that is a *steal*. If you don't like it, go find something better for us.

I know what you mean...sometimes I'll just use my visor and hope that is enough to take care of my face...but I used the Neutrogena stuff while in FL and it worked really well. I already have quite a bit of sun damage, so I suppose it is time to get serious about not getting any more!

If alice is in fact an actual person and not some alter ego of somebody. Then you will probably better be served by not coming. The drive sucks from MD. I myself will driving from Havre de Grace which is probably 1.5 hours from skyline.

But if you are real and you wanna come bring a birthday present for me.

Auzzie if youre coming just bring a crapton of those flatbread jobbies from sandellas. Ill throw down on those janks.

Sup those 320's suck also.

And if Nitefly/JJosh/PPL or any other MD ude is going. How bout I meet somebody and they drive the rest of way? Id like to save 2 gallons of gas this time :)

I would bring something, but I am catering for 65 in the morning, delivering the order, then I don't plan on going back before the meet.

Let's play Go Ask Alice301:

Ms. Alice, here's a color-coordination question from one of the more ... mature ... guys on this forum: I just tied a purple tie around a burnt-orange shirt and covered up most of it with a black sweater vest.

Does that work or will the fashion police knock down my door and take away my security clearance?

P.S. Yeah, I know the sweater vest makes me look old, but I have the rhumatiz and the sweater keeps me warm.

i must say i don't entirely like the idea of someone else paying off your bets. kinda cheapens it. you know because our bet had so much class and dignity before a 5 foot filipina lady browbeat you into submission. but a win is a win in tennis and in silly TW forum bets. if you don't mind i'd like a photo on saturday of you paying off your bet to me and i'll stick the money in a frame and hang em both on my office wall. and if you hand me a $25 bill with topaz face on it -- in wookie we trust -- i'm marginally smart enough to know i'm being swindled. koreans don't like being swindled.

so what are you switching to Sup? back to the babs or something entirely different or the new tecnifibres?

i'll know after today's hitting session with wookie, sap and rabid chipmunk if my sticks are keepers or FS on the TW Classifieds.

even better, take the 25 and break it to dollars for individual framing. post it on the for sale forum for $10 a framed dollar. sup has enough fame here to sell at least 20 frames.

purple tie, orange shirt, black vest...umm, this is some sort of trap, isn't it?

but i can't help myself. i'll bite.

1. no purple ties. ever. (although pale lavender dress shirts rock--especially striped ones)
2. burnt orange shirt? *narrows eyes* it's not even a dress shirt, is it?? a collar alone does not a dress shirt make!
3. orange+black=halloween. never match holiday colors. and? it's april. recent snow showers notwithstanding, it's spring! put away the black.

in summary, stock up on some neutral-colored options (i.e., shades of brown, cream, grey & blue). and then, if you must have color, choose 1 (one) item of clothing that's a fun color. and i have nothing against vests, per se. just not in black. over an orange shirt.

for chrissakes--you have a thread stuffed with korean men, and you come to ME with this question?

Naturally you get this question; all those guys want to talk about is x-box games and tennis racquets. While I share their passion for the latter, I have absolutely no interest in the former.

So I hit a home run in the fashion irreverence contest, huh? Cool. Since I grew up in the 60s, when thumbing one's nose at any sort of authority was de rigueur, convention doesn't impress me much. Wearing a military uniform is one thing; wearing the white shirt, blue or red tie uniform of conformity is quite another. I was proud to do the one, but I refuse to do the other.

And since I'm very, very good at what I do (and have reached the age where I can retire whenever I want), I tend to push the envelope as far as possible. And you say I'm doing that with purple ties and orange shirts. Great review; many thanks. :)

And you'll see no traps from me, kind Alice. What You See Is What You Get.

P.S. You would love my black shirt with white tie combo, topped by a gray sweater vest.

S&H is a fine establishment. Even thoiugh Vitaly and Dats are cousins they still use the Air Handlers noise as an excuse for inconsistent play. I on the other hand am able to fade that out of my mind. My inconsistent play is purely due to my inconsistency.

I think thats a fine place to have a meet. We already owned that place in there fun little team tourneys, so we are familiar with the place.

Also dont leave out the fact that Sup may have fabricated the story to not feel quite as hurt that those Prince sticks sucked more than Sappy's mother during preakness. Its easier to cope with defeat when you say you were forced into it. But those TF320 are ne fangled pieces of crap as well.

you came of age when you turned 60? impressive. i will likely need 80 or 100 years to ripen to maturity.

also all these posts about fashion are completely fine with me. but like many things -- completely useless without photos. how am i supposed to judge the merit of purple, orange and black ensemble without a visual aid?

keep on keeping on xisbum. you're my favorite baby boomer after my parents. the rest of the baby boomers i curse to heck for not raising their kids right (or at all) and for stealing all of my contributions to social security. :)

hollywood -- i disagree. the new TF320 VO2's aren't crap. they just aren't as good as the originals. they share the same name but might as well be completely different racquets. they don't play similarly AT ALL. but they aren't crap. drakulie may disagree but based on the power and spin and comfort -- i think they play a lot like the aeropro drives but with a bit more heft. i'm a little shocked to hear drak have such strong opinions though. i have always found him to be low key and go with the flow kinda guy. ;)

You got e-mail, youngster. And I came of age in THE 60s, as in 1960-1969. Near as I can remember, I was about 83 when that decade began. Could still shake a leg with Elvis, if you know what I mean.

it was a trap! i was lead to believe that you didn't want to be dressed like the Joker in april. but if your dress is a statement of your anti-establishment views, then *own it*.

military/corporate/usta team uniforms? it's all the same matrix...we're all just rats in a cage.

Hmmm, no, Sup didn't make this up, if you knew the director, you'd know he speaks truth. Sup very well could have been hitting with another racquet and not have said anything, but he was honest.

He hits well with both racquets actually. The Prince gave him a very heavy ball (*that's what she said*), but the TF lets him swing faster and the ball goes through the court faster. At a certain point, I don't think it matters too much which racquet he plays with, but I'm glad the director made him give up the racquet causing him to have to ice down his shoulder every day!

Auzzie, yes, he's at S&H...it is the kiddie Spring Break camp, fun fun fun!

topaz -- does Sup pay you to be his PR person and Sup Enterprises bulldog? or do you do it gratis?

and it's sorta disengenuous to think it doesn't matter which racquet he plays with when one of them forces him to ice down his shoulder every day. that's sort of an important factor. i can drive 30 miles or walk 30 miles to work. one of those methods is sorta easier assuming i like being on time and not leaving the night before. stick to teaching music. leave PR for the more golden tongued. let Sup defend himself. he's a big boy.

as for him using another racquet and NOT being honest about it. hard to say. i get the feeling that he'll do just about anything to win a bet. and i wouldn't throw out cheating. but i think he also knows that at sport and health there are far too many people who might see him and report back so there wasn't an option of cheating. if i cheated and played with another racquet -- sappy and the wookie would turn me in in a heartbeat. and i think they like me. bastidges.

we got a lot of people coming on saturday - looks like 20+. i'll bring my dora special but court time could be at a premium. 20+ tennis fanatics don't make for a lot of open courts. then again i only need 15 minutes so maybe we could squeeze it in. ;)

Anyway, lesson learned. Never bet against a cheap Korean light.
