Has anyone looked at the Day 4 Schedule for RG.

Why is Rafa playing on Court Suzanne Lenglen and not Phillipe Chatrier? Isnt Phillipe Chatrier the main one?

Can anybody please explain?

well is he playing in the morning or later in the afternoon?
suzanne lenglen is the 2nd main court i think, and they havee to rotate it a little bit.

This is ridiculous. French are for sure pulling for Federer and Murray.

Can't wait for scheduling shenanigans to start for Novak. He was already scheduled to play a day after all the other favorites and if it rained more today he would be in trouble.

While I dont agree with your second statement. Your first one is spot on. Minor error though. This is not just ridiculous,

it's

RIDICULOUS

We get this exact thread every year. Whats the big deal? They often like to put the number one and two seeds on the secondary court at least once at some slams.
I saw Nadal on court number 1 at Wimbledon while Roddick was on Centre. So what.

Let me know when Federer plays on Lenglen or Court No 1 in Wimbledon. Never happens since he gets favorable schedules and courts all the time.

2007 against Gabashvilli. He also played on Lenglen at least once since 2007.

is there an advantage to playing out chatrier? or are you all complaining that it's somewhat of an insult?

I personally would get bored of playing the same court every match.

I also do not think it is insulting, Lenglen is the 2nd major court, it's not as if he were thrown on a side court.

There are 2 main courts. "Stars" also play on Lenglen. It's so that the Lenglen tickets holders get to see the greatest players as well. If the best players only played on Chatrier, they would never manage to sell the Lenglen tickets. I expect the other top players will play on Lenglen too at some point.

Exactly my thoughts. Shouldnt the number one seed AND defending champion ALWAYS get to play on the main court? WTF is going on here

How is that a joke?

Murray #3 played on Court 1 vs Chela while Djokovic #4 played on Chatrier today. :(

With pleasure.

RG, like all slams, has 2 'showcourts'. As others have said, the 'stars' and local guys cycle between these 2 showcourts.

This really isn't a big deal - not quite sure what the problem is.

Ah see I didnt know that, and that's why I jumped to conclusion. If all the "stars" play on the 2nd main court as well, then all is good. Nothing new then.

And gj011, do you HONESTLY believe in anything such as favorable courts? I only made this thread cus I thought it was disrespectful for them to put Nadal on 2nd main court for all that he has achieved (and have since learned that it is not so). I dont think the courts themselves grant any extra advantage.

The only time when I thought the change of courts was a disadvantage to a player is at the USO 2008 when the semi was moved from center court at the last minute. Murray had already played several matches on that court, Nadal had not set foot on it the entire tournament. I saw that decision as unfair.

So, what was the last time Federer played on Court 1 at Wimbledon or the US Open?

I don't think it mattered.. Nadal was exhausted, MUrray the better player that day all the way. However, I agree that in general, it doesn't matter which court you play. If Federer can't beat Alberto Martin at court 19 that's Federer's fault. Nadal should be able to beat Gabashvili on a golf course.. it is for me just about the respect from organization towards fans and players that have done a lot for this tournament.

Btw, Cna't see them putting Federer on Lenglen thursday

According to Thejoe earlier in this thread, Fed played on court 1 against Gabashvili in 2007 and has also played on Lenglen since then. Don't know about USO, but I'm pretty sure he'll have played on Armstrong

Regarding the court, I think it's a good court for Rafa. He'll be fine.

They're helping Nadal. Lenglen court gets more wind since it has shorter walls. Also someone mentioned it has few feets shorter altitude.

murray will get one or two shots to be on center court this tourney, whereas rafa will have many chances to be shown on center court.

plus center court is not mathematically selected by your results. they are quite simply a popularity contest decided on by the tournament organizers to their motives of gaining more viewers watching.

Good question. I thought they were playing the same day. Fed is not playing tomorrow?

They played the same day only for the first round because of the crazy three day first round FO schedule. Since they're the first two seeds they will play on different days from now on, unless of course rain intervenes.

Ok i know Lenglen is a show court, and that different players have to get chances, but im pretty sure Nadal deserves to be on Chatrier more than Marat Safin and some random Frencho.

Murray does deserve a shot, but the French are being selfish by putting some French nobody on the widest court in the world

If I'm not mistaken, I think Safin played both his matches on Chatrier, just because he was playing a Frenchie. I get trying to give the home fans something, but not over the world's #1, 4 time champ, and the man the court will someday be named after. That to me is not fair. The Safin match could have easily been on court 1 or court 2 instead.

I would think that the French are pulling for the French players...

With that said, It's absurd to not have Nadal on the main court for every match that he plays. He's earned it and should be there, end of story.

Also, Djokovic had to play 1.5 sets today to get his win, which is half of what Nadal, Federer and Murray played in their opening round matches...It's safe to assume that the later start was offset with the shortened match.

What a slap in the face for Nadal. Only second rate trash play on the second rate courts. The world number 1, defending champion, and best player of all time should play on the center court.

The Lenglen court is a alternate center court. It's not a "second rate" court at all.
