1. To all the men on tour, excluding Nadal, Federer is still the man to beat in a slam. Sure some can beat him on a master event, but on the slam stage best of 5 matches, no one (except Nadal) is really at Federer's level. Federer's game has dropped when he is under pressure. That is for sure. As he said himself, he can not play freely when the score is close. And today he said he has played 3 or 4 French open finals this week, under the tremendous pressure on him. If you follow his matches, if he lost the 1st set, the match will be a nail-biter for Federer fans. But most likely garanteed, as long as his opponent is not Nadal, Federer will prevail at the end.
2. In the final today, Federer has pretty much the whole world on his side. "Every one wants you to win this year", said by some of his opponents including Monfils and Del potro, even Nadal said himself after his loss to Soderline "if anyone deserves to win this year, I hope it is Federer". When was the last time in sports, that the match result becomes almost the focus of the whole world? It is as if Federer's win is not only for him, but for the whole man-kind. I think it is because of Federer's never-give-up fighter spirit for the French open title. He has been trying for 5 years where the first 4 trials failed by one single opponent (Nadal), after the final 2008 it seems Federer's chance of winning the title is getting more and more slim. Yet the man didn't give up, he's got his goal and he is still fighting for it, and he finally achieved it today. This touches everyone, who didn't have failures in his/her life? and who didn't cherish the success after years and years of hard work and numerous failures? It is as touching as a hollywood drama.
3. Nadal is only human, even on the red clay of Roland Garros. Nadal's future is not looking too great, at this very moment. His knee finally is taking a toll on him in a slam. No one can be sure if his knee is 100% fine would he still lose to Soderline or not. But one thing for sure is his camp really have to work out a better plan. I am not a Nadal fan but I surely wish him recover soon.
4. Soderling is not much of a weirdo. From today's match when he made sure Federerer was ok after the Jimmy Jump incident, that shows he's got enough respect for his opponent. Sure he had his problem with Nadal and such, but well, who doesn't have problems with someone when they are just 21? Remember, Soderling is only 24 now.
5. Del Potro will soon become a real threat to the "big 4". This man deserves great respect. JMDP seems to be improving his game (and more importantly his mental game) faster than Djoko and Murray.
6. Most of the goat talk is endless, and meaningless.
7. The security in French open is a joke. Had Federer pull a "Monica Seles" today, I wonder if that would become the most tragic moment of sports of all time. Seriously, not just for slams, for any ATP event these freak incidents should NOT happen. What are the securities being paid for? Sitting there like a duck and respond slower even than the match umpire?
