Are Vapour 6's That Bad? (fans Of The 5)

My last pair of vapour 5's are worn. boohooooo. Does anybody out there who loved the 5, accept and like the 6.....or should I hunt for some more 5's here and there...or switch brands again....

I am a huge fan of the V and have several pair in the closet (including a couple of the US Open brown ones), but got a pair of the clay VI's because I have been waiting years for Nike to release that outsole tread to the general public. The cushioning on the VI is the best I've ever felt on a tennis shoe. It really is fantastic. I can't stand the plastiky flywire crap. The toe box on the VI is far roomier, something I'm not a fan of. I really liked the toe box on the V, but I understand some people did not.

All in all, I would say I still like the V better, but the VI is not bad at all. Asthetics wise, I hate looking at the shoe from the instep, the view of the shoe from the outstep looks smooth, though.

You could try the Air Zoom advantage which are basically the vapor v's reincarnated.

No, not even close. I own Vapor V, VI, and Advantage. V is by far the best of the 3. VI feels like wearing plastic shoes, like Croc or something. I hardly ever wear that. The Advantage looks like a V, but it doesn't feel like one. Nike took a lot of short cut on Advantage. It's not as cushion as V (everywhere, inside, outside, etc). V is a like an Acura TL SH-AWD, while Advantage is a like a Honda Accord base model.

Hunt down more V, by calling Nike. They will tell you where and which Nike outlet still have them and what size. You can call the outlet and they will ship it free...

I bought the VI cause my V was worn and I actually really like it. The sole feels amazing. The upper lace rings hurt a bit--poor design--but I love the rest of the shoe.

stormholloway,

I had the same issues with the lace eyelets. The ones at the top of the shoe were really eating at my ankles. I don't even run the laces through the. So, they had to go...

On the inside of the shoe you can take a pair of wire cutters or a small pair of scissors and cut the clear plastic ring that surrounds the eyelet. Once you remove that plastic ring, you can pull the entire eyelet out from the outside of the shoe. Kills the issue instantly. They immediately become comfortable.

Thanks. I'll do this.

I thought the Vs were really stiff at first too, but they loosened up. Both the V and VI require a bit of breaking in.

Where can I find the right number to call Nike to get the outlet info?

Hello.

I have a question. I hope you´ll understand what i mean.

At the moment i don´t own Vapor 6. My problem is, that the "tongue" under the shoelace goes to the side. Espacially on my left shoe (no matter which brand). Because of this i wear the Breath Cage 2.

In older Nike shoes, there were (sometimes) elastic bands, which hold the "tongue" in the middle of the shoe.

I also own Barricades. They don´t have elastic bands, but the "tongue" doesn´t go to the side too much. It´s quite ok for me.

I want to buy the new Vapor 6 (black/red). Do you think, that the "tongue" will move to the side very much?

Yesterday i saw the final of Newport. And "Ram" wore the Vaper 6 (Wimbledon version). The "tongue" moved very much, on one of his shoes.

It would be nice, if many of you answered my question. Thanks.

I haven't worn my VI's yet, but i've never noticed this with my V's or any of the older versions. i don't want to sound all patronising and suggest tying the laces differently, but i can't really think what else to suggest!

It's really interesting that you mention this. The tongue in my left shoes always move to the side. It does it in the VI as well.

Not really a big deal though, just move it back over.

Any shoe owners of both V and VI can you help on this?

I had the V and it fit me perfectly in a half size bigger than I usually get. Did you guys buy the VI in the same size as the V or a half size smaller?

Have some questions prior to my move down under=)

I'm actually thinking that the VI is a half size bigger. There's certainly a lot more room in the forefoot area than its predecessor.

I kinda suspected that. I tried on the VIs in my V size for a brief moment, and cos of the wider forefoot, my feet slid. However, the midfoot area is quite tight.

I am thinking of going down half a size, but will the midfoot area stretch out?

So...I absolutely loved the V's (best tennis shoes ever made) and they didn't require any break-in period for me. I have the VI's at the moment as well as the Barricade 5's and dunno which ones I should stick with. The VI's seem pretty stiff when I wear them around the house and seem like they would hurt my feet. After break-in are the VI's any better than the V's?

My first vapors were the IV's (the white/lightblue ones, best shoes ever!). when i worn out 2 pairs of them i switched to the V. Also great shoe, but very bad durability. So worn out very very quick.
About the VI's, i tried them immediately once released and find them very comfortable. Much better durability than the IV and the V. Very good cushioning and great fit around the midfoot!
Only bad point is that as mentioned before in this topic that the fit in the forefoot is not that narrow as in the V's. For myself i just loved the narrow fit in te forefoot of the V's. The VI has a little bit more room, but when you've tried them on a couple of times, you're going to accept it.
Also just ordered the VI Oreos for myself, these are so sweet!
