Soderling out of Legg Mason with serious elbow injury

Two-handed backhand players don't injure their elbow. He knows the beating Nadal will inflict on him if they play at Rogers, so it's time for the old fake an injury game.

I was there, and very excited to watch this afternoon's matches, including Soderling's match. Based on what I've watched this week, I picked him to beat JMdP.

I got there really early. So early, in fact, that the *injured* Soderling was playing, on center court, with his coach Magnus Norman, at about 11:20am today. (I even got the on court clock in the pictures!)

Here are the pictures I took of him, approximately an hour before he pulled out with his...injury.

When I was there Saturday, Soderling was practicing at a minimum from 10am til 3pm, with at most an hour break during this. Definitely makes sense if he has an over-use injury because the guy will not stay off the court.

I guess Soderling figured that if Nadal could fake an injury at their last meeting then so could he, right? :-?

Soderling starts to play for few tournaments and is out with an injury - well well. Check out both of their careers and just see how many "fake injuries" Nadal has in the past. I mean there must have been a lot for him to win as many tournaments he has done.... surely!

Are you serious? Nadal has been one of the most chronically "injured" players on the ATP in history. How many Master's Cups, tournaments, and Davis Cup ties has he missed due to "injury"?

Absolute rubbish. Compared to Soderling's attempt at a tennis career there is no contest. Where has Soderling been all these years when Nadal was triumphant? It's about time Nadal did have a well deserved break. I'm not saying that Soderling isn't a good player - but he has yet to prove that he can handle the big tournaments with injury -like Nadal had to do for a long time - or without

damn! Rafa misses his chance for revenge:cry:

Hopefully it's not just a tactic because he knows the unfixed draws will make it so he's in Rafa's half for US open so he wants to be fresh for that.

Where did you hear that it's serious?..
Its not serious, its just an over...how do u say this in English, he has practiced to much lately, he defaulted against Del Potro, he will not play in Montreal but he will be back in Cincy, i have a source but dont feel any need to post it since its in Swedish.

your right most of us don't know much about him because he didn't really do much to speak about unless Rafa helped him get the headlines; first at Wimbledon then French..

So please educate us about his career by posting stats, all matches and achievements about Soderling.:)

Im sure you would be able to find it yourself, what i meant was that not lots of ppl know about his training-scheduele so they shouldnt start judging. In Sweden he has been seen as this great great talent but a mental midget who could go from happy to furious in 5 seconds, his coach was the same way but straightened out, so Soderling thought it would be a good idea hiring Magnus Norman, and it was.

So, since you're Swedish, do you have any inside info on Sods? Where was he all this time, is he as weird as some haters say he is? What's to be expected of him in the future?

I guess i do.
He tried to find his game, and finally did it in Paris, played great in Wimbledon, won in Bastad, he has 24-4 in matches since the French!
No, he is not, he is MUCH weirder than ppl say, or at least used to be. Magnus Norman told him, if u have one maore tantrum or outburst u r on your own, and it worked,he doesnt get angry anymore on court and it helpes him a lot!
For the future, definetely top 10, he says his favourite-surface is HC, i could see him in the QF of Us Open and even in the YEC...

He'll probably make it Top 10 or Top 8 by year end. He can blow all one-dimensional players with his power. Fed is different story, too much quality and variety to be intimidated by raw power.

btw Was he really serious with that line call? When he pointed to another mark a mile off.

Nooooo of course not! Sarcasm

It's interesting how many Nadal fans posted here, it seems they are still not over Roland Garros...

Anyway, I think it's good that Soderling doesn't risk an injury in a smaller tournament like Legg Mason, he can gain a lot of points in the next few weeks. I think he lost in the first round of the US Open last year.

BTW, Soderling and Nadal are in the same part of the Montreal draw. I'm really looking forwards to that match.

Me to, yes he has huge loads of points to gain in the next few weeks, he could be 7-10 in the world after the Us Open

Well he was about as gracious in defeat at RG as I've ever seen a player. Most of the time I'm disappointed in what the players say about each other up there, but I was impressed with him. He might've acted like a jerk at times, but apparently not when it matters.

he was because he was just happy being there.

There is plenty of space for raquet throwing, the odd verbal outburst even with tennis players. It is an accepted fact that this will happen during the great tournaments. However calculated spitefulness is worrying. No Nadal did not deserve this from his opponent. It was enough for both players to be repeatedly sent off due to rain without the added stress of someone behaving like a circus performer to get himself noticed

Oh Nadal fans...get over yourselves...

Nadal got made fun of and called out for his time wasting...boo freaking hoo, move on, cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it. Even Rafa's moved on, I don't see why his fans can't....still burning from that FO loss I see...

Why don't you count how many times Nadal has withdrawn from a tournament due to injury versus how many times Soderling has done so? It's no contest. Please get a clue? Please?

Nope,Soderling chickened out on that one.He should have faced Nadal and should have gone to the umpire to complain about that.Instead, while Nadal was taking too long as usual,he did the "classy" thing and went to get a racket while Rafa was serving,IMPLYING that he should go faster.Rafa stuck with his usual routine and even got him back with the "new balls" bit.And then Soderling took it up a notch and mimicked Rafa's underwear routine. It was some of the most childish behaviour I have ever seen and I say this about both players.

Soderling and others that are bothered by Nadal's routines should man up and go to the umpire. And the umpire should man up and apply the time rule. But if you don't say anything, don't complain. If Rezano of the WTA complained about DeBrito's shrieks why don't ATP players do the same thing about Nadal?
And don't give me the "they shouldn't show any sign of weakness" argument. It's weak and you know it.If Nadal's time wasting is considered cheating/obnoxious behaviour, how can I stand there and take it over and over and over again?

Personallt I think Soderling did it because he knows Nadal likes his routines and tried to break his flow by messing with his mind.I didn't hear him complain in Rome and I didn't hear him complain in RG.
