I think the buzz around Oudin is too much. The "17" is repeated way too much. 17, so what? 17 years old have won slams in the past, but not many moms. I wanna see Kim go all the way on this one.

It's not just the '17'. It's also because she's a home-crowd favourite, and she's unseeded and came out of nowhere. Half the world hadn't heard of her name just a short week ago.

Either of them would be a great story, imo. Both play (relatively speaking) attractive games.

This is a tough one. One is newcomer of the year, the other is comeback of the year. Both have taken out top 10ners on route to the quarters. I guess it comes down to who will go the furthest.

Kim has been there, done that. Oudin is a novice. This is a completely new experience for her.

Melanie is a much bigger story. Kim has been around for 10+ years. Most tennis fans know who she is. Kim can draw on her experience to win whereas Melanie is experiencing all this for the first time. It is much more exciting to watch somebody new.

Boy I like them both a lot. BUT I'm rooting for Kim just to prove you can leave, have a baby, come back and win a Slam. Melanie has a lot of years ahead of hersself to win Slams. And I'm an American...get that! :-?

Definitely Melanie. Kim is a proven great player. IMHO, her great success speaks to the weakness of the WTA these days. If one of these ladies has to serve for the match, forget it! It's choke city these days. Whoever screws up less wins.

This is the worst field in WTA history really.

The worst is 1978-1986

You have to be kidding. That was when you had Navratilova, Evert, King, 3 of the greatest players of all time playing at once. You also had Graf from 1982 to 1986. You had Tracy Austin who would have won alot of slams had she been able to stay healthy, and Mandlikova who was an amazingly talented player who could beat anyone.

Don't push it. How old was Graf in 82? 12??? If a 12 year old being a threat shows signs of a strong era...thats nuts.

Graf in 1985 and 1986 then. Anyway as early as 1984 Graf was starting to thrash everyone already other than Navratilova, Evert, Mandlikova, and Shriver.

Mandilkova was weirdo who lost a lot as well. She would be the Worst candidate to win in this era of consistent baseline power hitting

Consistent. Are you kidding me. Have you watched any womens tennis today. Bashing yet, but the unforced errors are through the roof today.

Pam Shriver as a great of the 80s era says enough. She was good in doubles, that's about it, even she knows this.

As far as story, I say Oudin. Clijsters is the former #1 and has done it against weaker competition - Oudin beating Dementieva, Sharapova, and Petrova, possibly Wozniacki and then who knows to even make the finals, that would be impressive.

Have you ever seen Pam play singles. She had an excellent serve and was an outstanding volleyer, and because of her height had a tremendous overhead if you tried to lob her. I will go on record as saying there isnt a single female player who volleys nearly as well as she can, and only the Williams today serve or hit overheads more consistently well. She had no ground game but it didnt matter, she came to the net off everything. She beat Martina in her prime twice at the U.S Open, and she was 1 of only 2 people to beat Graf in her Golden Slam year. She and Sukova are the two best players to never win a slam singles title.

Sukova is one of the worst players to ever reach a slam final.

I think Melanie would be the bigger story getting to the final, along with Kimberly, when Serena Williams beats them both to take the title. :)

Well, that's not true, b/c Sukova has made more than one slam final -- and she ended Navratilova's 74 match winning streak (yes it was against a field weaker than today's WTA, but still impressive). Sukova could never beat 2 great players in a slam, which is why she never won one.

I voted Kim just because she's making a comeback after giving birth.

But Oudin would be pretty big as well. A kid with a dream. Always a feel-good story.
