Did HEAD dropped Gasquet?

Everyone is with Youtek Extreme PJs and he his with the 2009 paintjob. I'm also seeing him in the sidney final changing an overgrip (something strange in pro tennis nowadays even if is a lot of humidity out there). For me that's the indication that he is not with many stick available and also wants to reduce costs on strinjobs and etc.

he always changes the overgrip nearly every change of ends especially in hot weather. It's like his equivalent of Nadal's water bottles. He's done it for ages.

No idea about the paint job. He's not always been using a Head stencil in practice but he is during matches which indicates to me that he must still be sponsored.

He's still on the Head website. Nothing gleaned, not even rumors, via Google searching. So I think he's probably still with them - but he better have a decent year!

He's not that bright remember? Something I learned from lurking the forums.

Did they paint a bumper on that or is the real one camouflaged in there?

In todays match his strings looked almost like a clear color. I'm pretty sure he hasnt changed though, I may have just seen them in the wrong light? He has used BBO for many years

I cannot fathom how someone could come to this conclusion. In the first 2 weeks of 2010 Richard Gasquet has earned $46,000 (ATP website) that is a lot of Tournagrips and a lot of Big Banger Original.

As for grips, as stated above he's always done it, see my pics below from Queens 2008 with his practice with Roddick. He had the Microgel extreme non teflon painjob a lot longer than other pro's too.

It is amazing what people say and post out here isn't it? It really makes you wonder how many people on this forum actually PLAY tennis. Most pros wrap their own overgrip. Just the few with P1 or something have theirs done before they pickup their sticks for the day.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen Gasquet wrap his grips - in person or on TV in matches - or even just out on the practice court. He does it all the time - guess he likes the feel of a fresh overgrip all the time. Blake wraps his own grip in between games quite often as do quite a few others. This is common practice people if you actually play! Nothing more.

First of all, i asked because i didn't knew.
ALL OTHER EXTREME PLAYERS HAVE CHANGED, EVEN THE MINOR NAMES.
And yeah.. the 46,000$ is all for tournagrips and BBO he doesn't need to cover is trip costs and earn some money.

IT'S RARE WATCHING A PRO CHANGING AN OVERGRIP BECAUSE THEY CHANGE OF RACQUET BEFORE BECAUSE OF THE STRINGS.
I didn't knew that Gasquet had that habit.

I was just asking, there's no need to hit me with rocks ok?

maybe he just likes the pj he's used to?

i think the microgel line looks cooler than the YT line.

* To the OP, my point was that he had earned a huge amount of money in just the first 2 weeks of the year in just small tournaments, to me it is inconceivable that he has to worry about 'trip costs', the $46,000 is just prize money for 2 weeks, not even taking into consideration his sponsorship with Lacoste which must be worth a Mil or two.

Gasquet uses a friggin LM Instinct for god's sake!!!

HE DOES NOT USE ANY KIND OF EXTREME AT ALL!!

Its a paintjob, and he is always the last to change...

we know.. the discussion was about the PJ
If you read the other posts in this thread you will discovered that it was already discussed.

I really miss the red look of queens. I don't really like the blue from the new aegon sponsor.

No player who had been dropped by a racquet company would continue to stencil their racquet strings with the company logo. They may continue using the frame but would likely black it out and certainly not stencil it--they would not continue to advertise for the company for free. Gasquet does not always change racquets at every ball change like a lot of players do and it is not uncommon for him to go through a dozen, sometimes more, grips per match. I've seen him change grips several times in a single practice session.

You're correct about the stenciling (except in the odd case that the tourney's stringing room is unaware of a recent contract change and does it by accident, but this is very rare).

Furthermore, all this talk of a company "dropping" a player, or a player "dropping" his racquet company tends to misrepresent how pro racquet contracts actually work. Players who have racquet contracts are paid to play with a racquet and have contracts for a set amount of time. When that term expires, they either renegotiate another contract, they sign one with another company or they hold out for a higher bidder. It is very rare for a company to "drop" a player during a contract, and most contracts don't even allow this.

There is a tendency on these boards to ascribe more relevance to a brand's quality or a player's recent performance in determining sponsorships than is actually the case. Players rarely drop a racquet because it "sucks" and racquet companies don't drop players unless their contract is up anyway. And even in most of those cases, they simply try to renegotiate with them for different amounts of money.

I agree. I have only ever known and grew up with Queens being red, looks wrong! I am going this year so I'm sure I'll like it when I get there!

He has always been behind with paintjobs

that's exactly right

he used the liquid metal instinct for ages right up nearly until the micro gel came out.

this is nothing new

the instinct range is always the latest for head to release; they focus first on their prestiege's and radicals as they are the biggest sellers
