Hey guys. I just demoed the Volkl DNX 10 since it was on sale. After 5 minutes with it I fell in love. No other racquet compared to it for me. However, I found the PB10 and noticed that other than balance they are almost identical in terms of specs.

Is there any major reason to get the PB10 over the DNX 10 considering the price difference is $70+?
I have both of these models and they play somewhat differently to one another. The key differences in my opinion are swingweight (despite reported sw the PB10 swings easier in the third hour of play for me), the hl balance (the PB10 is more manuverable) and the feel in the hoop (the firm DNX material is more noticeable in the DNX10). Despite all that you should demo both of them (preferrably get them at the same time) and see what you think. Hope this helps.

So I'm thinking I'm going to abandon these frames. Any of you guys interested in taking them off my hands?

Easier to get on with the DNX10 straight off, but I found it harsher. Response seemed more linear with the DNX10, if that makes any sense. PB Mid 10 really comes into its own when you take huge cuts at the ball, gives you enormous confidence. How do you describe the feeling? It is like the racket is not there between you and the ball. THe DNX10 just feels harsh.

PB Mid 10 is better for me playing tight angles, more bite on slice, more weight on serve.

The only thing I like about the DNX10 is the sense of accuracy you get hitting medium paced groundstrokes. Maybe it also suits my backhand in stock form, but once I get the PB Mids leaded up there is no comparison.

I had no problem playing with DNX10s but found the PB Mid10 really hard to get used to at first.

My tennis felt a little one dimensional with the DNX10. My doubles partner plays with DNX10s so I often have a hit with them especially if he has got some different strings, but now I have got used to the PB Mid10s I would no change.

I think there is a big difference between the 3 frames, so you will probably much prefer one to the other.

I just tried the PB10 (Tecnifibre X-1 17 at 57 on the mains, gosen OG micho 17 at 59 on crosses)... man, this racket is amazing!, I hit some of the best serves of my life, and it worked great on my one-handed BH. Would have to make some adjustment on the forehand (some were sailing long and felt hard to control at times) but overall it made such a good impression. This is the best I ever felt a racket on my first day with it.

Hi PB10 users:
So... I'm thinking of selling my brand new 4 and 3/8ths PB10 mid. I've only used it for 2.5 hours and it has rpm blast 16 gauge @ 55lbs, used only for and hour. I was wondering what it's worth. It's essentially brand new, strung by Roman Prokes @ ****.

Thanks,
Paul

The grip size is not so important as you can get a replacement pallet for $5 and make the racket any size you like.

Just don't do it. Add some lead tape and you have THE racket of your dreams. Are you giving up tennis? The world ends with the PB10 mid.

Have you gone to the Dark Side?

I second that. The PB10 is what tennis is all about. Keep tinkering with it. Maybe try thinner gauge strings too. Stick with it. It forces you to put in the work. Coaxes good footwork out of you and demands good form. I'm completely in love with it. The first weeks were great, then I had a rough patch with it...and now we're just perfect. Stick with it.

I'd like to know where, also. If anyone is selling any, drop me an email (freshwipe@gmail.com), thanks. Otherwise, I guess I'll look for a Volkl "authorized dealer" shop.

My preferred strings after testing of 40 different strings in Völkl 10 mid are:
Völkl Cyclone 1,25 mm 63 lbs main 60 lbs cross
Weiss Cannon Silverstring 1,20 mm 60 lbs main, 58 lbs cross
MSV Focus Hex 1,10 mm 60 lbs main, 58 lbs cross
Luxilon BB Alu power 55 lbs main, 53 lbs cross

I have just started using the PB10 mid. I think it might be my favourite racket of all time, it just has the perfect balance and I can get so much racket head speed. At the moment I couldnt be happier with them, I just need to improve my footwork so that I can get the timing right every time.

Has anyone tried Genesis strings in this frame? I have just ordered SpinX, Black Magic and Typhoon to try and would like to know what experiences people have had with these strings in the PB10. I have also got some Topspin Cyber Twirl, Whirl and Black to try and same thing goes for those too.

Cheers

Where from? From Volkl directly or one of the customizing places?
Tenniswarehouse europe

I rang Adrian at Volkl UK and he recommended a few places and promised to supply pallets, but the places he recommended were too slow getting back to me so I just went for TW Europe - FedEx Fedexed the delivery (thanks Morons) but TW sent out a replacement pronto so all is good.

Word of warning the pallets need cutting to length and are brittle so go easy with the hacksaw. When putting in the staples go very easy too!

So, while not a member yet, ;-) I am very much a fan of this racquet's control, stability, and easy power and am planning to buy one if it keeps performing during my demo.

However, I wanna ask about the strings that come with the demo, if any posters here remember their experience. This is my second time demoing this racquet, and this time I received different strings, much better than the previous demo. The mains are a yellow string, I'm presuming it is the volkl fuse (poly-natural gut mix) string? The crosses are colorless so either natual gut or volkl gripper?

Also, after looking through the posts in here MSV Focus Hex 1.1 at around 52 seemed to be the most common main, though the smallest gauge I see on TW is 1.18. Anyone try this gauge and see a difference? Would a poly like Luxilon BB work as a good cross? Or other suggestions?

I just had this racquet out on demo along with the Tecnifibre Tflash Speedflex 300

Didn't really care for the Tecnifibre, which was actually my first choice to demo, but luckily I also got the Volkl PB 10 Mid because of all the great reviews and this thread.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Volkl PB10 Mid !!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I can afford 2 frames I'll be putting in an order.

On to the real reason for my post ... if you are a fan of this frame , or possibly if you tried this frame but it wasn't quite right for you take a look at this thread about ultra low string tensions. The guy is doing 10,20,30 lb tensions etc. on the Volkl PB10 Mid with some very interesting results.

Enjoy

and I am so upset I have to return my demo tomorrow, scheduled a final game for the morning before I drop it off at UPS and shed a tear or two.

I had two volkl tour 10s that I used as backups while trying to find the last Austrian made i.prestige mids in exisitence and now those have stress fractured their way to death too. Absolutely loved that stick and the feel it offered. I'd still take it over anything made in the past 5 years. How does the pb10 compare to it if anyone has been playing with volkl mids that long?

Advice on Adding TW Leather grip

Hello,
I'll be getting my used PB 10 w/in few days.
I could not demo it so I know I am taking some risk but
it's worth a try.

Question:
I might try to replace the grip w/ TW leather grip (1.5mm probably)
since I am used to the leather grip of Wilson Pro Staff (85).
IF I decide to do so, how much weight will it add?

Rough math:
TW leather grip (1.5mm): 30 gr
PB 10(strung weight according to TW): 343gr
Subtract weight of original grip : ? gr
Total weight : ? gr

I have no idea how heavy is the original volkl grip is.

Previously, I added a Babolat leather grip to a Yonex RDis 100 MP and it ended up weighing 349g (12.3oz) which is on the heavier side than I prefer.
I want to keep my limit at 12-12.1oz.

Perhaps I will like the Volkl grip and keep it.

thanks very much for any input!

mine is in the mid-360s, strung, with 4 layers of duct tape to change grip shape, original volkl grip, yonex overgrip, dampener.

contemplated about a leather grip, but I think that would bring the static weight up to high for my current fitness level.

X-One Biphase 17 or Kirschbaum Touch Multifiber 17

Hello,

I'm getting my first PB 10 soon and
was contemplating on the strings.

I know there is no right answer,
I noticed quite a few use X-One Biphase, a soft multifilament but crisp string.
Anyone tried Kirschbaum Touch Multifiber on PB 10? Happens I have a few spare left.

I did like the crispy X-One on my previous Yonex RDis 100MP, a stiff racquet,
but I once popped it in 2 days by hitting the top of the hoop where the string
meets the grommet.

I probably want to stay on the softer side, so no polys for me.

Great stick. Took me a while to get used to the headsize and in particular string tension. Started with thicker gauge strings in low 50s, then moved up to around 60lbs and now settled on 17 gauge multifilament somewhere around the low 50s again.

Have used lots of racquets previously (inc the Volkl Tour 10 MP gen I) but the spin and angles that the PB10 mid produces are simply amazing. I can whip up so much headspeed on anything around mid court - almost like table tennis shots that take opponents out so wide it's easy to put away volleys if they get to return the ball from one of the adjacent courts!

Suits players that have a more confident aggressive style, but need to concentrate and have good strokes to find the sweetspot consistently.

Another Volkl classic.

So, I went walkabout for a while there.

Used the YT Prestiges a lot for a bunch of late summer doubles league matches. Somehow just felt more comfortable at net with them. But with that over, I'm back to playing singles mostly...and I had really forgotten how awesome this racquet is.

Looking forward to using these exclusively...going to put the Prestige MPs up for sale...

I see the thread starter has moved on to another racquet (YTPP) by now... Yeah, well I kind of understand...so many choices, so little time...

I've had my eye on the PB10 for a little while, but I just bought a BB11 Mid in good nick for $40, and it got me comparing. The specs are so close between the two (you could throw the DNX mid in there too), I wonder if, with the usual variations in QC, they might as well be the same racquet, which is to say, you might find a BB11 mid with the Volkl specs and vice versa.

Boris Becker 11 Mid:
Head Size: 93 sq. in. /600 sq. cm.
Length: 27.00 inches / 68.58 cm
Strung Weight: 12.20 oz / 346 g
Balance: 8pts HL
Swing Weight: 330
Beam Width: 19.0mmTip/Shaft: 19.0mm / 19.0mm
Composition: Graphite/DNX/Fiberglass
Power Level: Low
Stiffness: 60
String Pattern: 16 Mains/19

PowerBridge 10 Mid:
Head Size: 93 sq. in. /600 sq. cm.
Length: 27.00 inches / 68.58 cm
Strung Weight: 12.10 oz / 343 g
Balance: 10pts HL
Swing Weight: 327
Beam Width: 19.0mmTip/Shaft: 19.0mm / 19.0mm
Composition: DNX, Carbon, Fiberglass
Power Level: Low
Stiffness: 59
String Pattern: 16 Mains/19 Crosses

Follow up question: Why then, is the PB10 a bigger success than the BB11 (and DNX 10). My only guess is that the Becker is totally ugly, and the only people who would be interested are the Dutch.

Precies. (Every dutchman I know goes out of his way to wear or have something orange. The Irish aren't like that. But maybe it's not like that in the Netherlands and it's just the Dutch in Canada who always have to have orange, just like the only people wearing kilts in Scotland are American tourists.)

But what about my original question?

This is a good example of why you need to demo ... although similar, there are some clear differences in how these sticks play. I agree with an earlier poster indicating that you must take big full cuts with both of these. I have both sticks and have used both as my main squeeze. The ball feel is different for each and I think that has to do with some adjustments to the amount and location of the DNX material. The PB is a bit more head light which took some adjustment coming from the BB11 mid.

The BB11mid is a bit more powerful but does not have the feel that the PB has. The PB plays exceptionally well when strung just below the recommended midrange (ie. 53# with a hybrid). I liked the BB11 mid strung at 57#s. Both sticks are excellent but accentuate different parts of the game. The BB serves bigger but the PB is great for an all around game. If you can, you should try them both over at least three sessions. The PB took me at least three demos to dial in the serve.

PS. By the way, JRod who has disappeared off this board a couple of months ago had some great insights on these sticks. JRod if you are still reading these ... I miss you insights. TTen

I prefer this racquet on faster courts and for doubles. I enjoy the swingweight and overall combination of feel, touch, power and control in one package.

You clearly couldn't handle the PB10 Mids with your level game because you've since sold them and bought four 300g 100sq" Babolat Pure Drives. Your posts are pure fantasy. PB10s are players frames, not frames for 3.0/low 3.5 level players such as yourself.

Incidentally, the manufactuer is Völkl, not Völk.

That sounds about right. QC complaints always seem to be about weight and balance (and paint), and rarely if ever about lay-up and feel, so even if you find a PB10 mid with BB11 mid specs or vice versa, the lay-up is different so the feel is different.
Great. That means I'll still have to buy a PB10 Mid. (I thought I could get away with a close relative for $40.)

well after demo'ing this stick i am now on the verge of selling all of my sticks and going solely volkl pb10 mid. i have been wanting to go with a 93" stick as i feel my game is ready for a serious players racquet. always been a fan of prestige & radical and thought that the prestige mid would be my graduation present. so i sent off for some demo's of popular 93" frames:
  • yonex rdis100
  • head prestige mid
  • volkl pb10 mid
  • redondo c mid
  • dunlop aerogel 4d 200 tour (95sq")
it was so difficult to demo any other racquet after first picking up the pb10. i played some doubles with it and looked like a superstar out there. i could literally press the auto pilot button at net and watch this stick do sic things to the ball.

i got a call from my previous season tennis team for me to join them for practice. i took the pb10 with me and man oh man its like my game got even better than my first outing. my partner and i trumped the competition 6-0 6-2. i hooked up with another partner and we smashed them as well. i did things with this stick that i was NEVER able to do. volleys were incredible. that is really where this thing shines - THE VOLLEY! and the control was insane. topspin drives hit right inbetween the opposition as they pressured the net. i hit another drive past the backhand shoulder of the net guy placing it through the small alley opening to the deuce corner for a winner.

that was just naming a few but i was pulling this stuff off all night. the control was really unreal. perhaps this is not so much a credit of the pb10 but more so credit of a 93"er...not sure. and i wont even talk about the spin serve. all i will say is that when you see the returner scream, "OH!" and jump back defending his neck with his racquet....wow too much fun!

anyway after taking all the demo's to the courts and hitting against the ball machine i narrowed my search down to the pb10, prestige, redondo. from that i removed the redondo which is a great racquet but is simply not as effortless a stick as the prestige mid and pb10. to be honest the prestige is very difficult to say no to but i have to be careful that it is not because of my allegiance to head racquets. HEAD ROCKS! ....em' now that i got that out of my system. the prestige mid was just too low powered. on smooth cuts at the ball, i just couldn't get the pace and depth i was looking for without put effort into the shot and i do not want to have to put big effort into every shot just to keep the ball deep.

the pb10 won out over the prestige. i have begun adding some lead to the top of the hoop and just above the grip to balance it off. i added 1/2 ounce of lead but not really liking what it did to my serve. my flat serve disappeared. to be honest the only reason why i added lead is because i normally play with 13oz racquets and the pb10 just felt light although it plays great. so i am not sure how i will go about customize this beast.

well the demo goes back saturday but i will certain continue enjoying this experience while it is in my possession. thanks for reading.

Going Indoors

Would be curious what folks' impressions are on how the PB10 performs in Fall condions (or indoors now that it's getting colder, at least here in the Northeast)... Any thoughts on stringing for colder weather? I was pretty happy with my set up so I just re-strung the same thing the same way...

Thoughts?
