This 5.0 ex college player using a flexible 98 inch players racket needs string help. Love the feel of my full bed of Silverstring 17 and Hyperion 17 strung at 55 lbs but both give me elbow discomfort. Would like to try a hybrid using a multi in the crosses and poly in the mains to stop the arm discomfort. (not pain) Have ordered Big Ace 17, Genesis Black Magic 17, Genesis Spin X 17, and Poly Plasma 17. For multis I ordered Maxim Touch 17 and Tourna Quasi Gut 17. Do you like any combination of these? I know about your love afair with VS gut and high priced multis but I would like to save a buck if possible. I do have one racket strung with Tonic when I want to give my arm relief. Thanks in advance.

First consider trying either Silverstring 17 or Hyperion 17 in the mains with one of your two multi crosses. That will give you the closest feel to what you love while decreasing the discomfort. After all, neither hyperion nor silverstring are THAT stiff, and the Spin X you've ordered isn't that much softer, if at all. Consider dropping the tension on the setup by 2-3 pounds while you're at it as well.
I hope you ordered the "old" maxim touch, as the new stuff isn't particularly great. Both the "old/classic" maxim touch and tourna quasi gut are great multis that would probably cost a lot more if Technifiber sold them.

K Gut, K Gut Pro, Xcel power, Xcel prem, Super Natural Gut Prostock, NRG2, Dynamite, X-One, Explosiv and NXT(might forget a few..... )
First I would try to go lower in tension with full poly - like35 lbs full poly bed.
Then try 30 lbs and then 40 lbs. If you hate that, then try a multi mains with a poly crosses and reverse it for better durability and control.
Silverstring and Hyperion are great soft polys, so maybe try them in a hybrid with a crips multi in a thick gauge, like X-One 1.30 or NRG2 1.30 and see how durable that is.
It's all about testing and testing and testing.....
Thanks for the good advise Meowmix and yes I did order Maxim Touch Classic. Do you know if the other poly's I ordered are softer than Silverstring and Hyperion?

Thanks for replying and good options to test, test, test. I think I will try a lower tension with the full poly and see how it feels on the arm. I'm thinking 45-50 lbs. My brain can't imagine playing with the tensions you speak of with a racket as flexible as mine (61) I also like your hybrid ideas and will give that a shot as well. Look forward to reading your posts in the future.

You should go and check out the low tension thread. I too was also skeptical but if you hit with spin and a poly in the mains - it's like magic!
You also might try a syn gut as a cross ie Forten Sweet or Gosen Micro Sheep. They're soft and more economical.

Anything in here asking for softer strings that aren't gut? He says he has a tonic stick, which is vs gut. Try global gut. $11/set with ship costs.

After a while I figured out that the acceptable tension range goes as far and you dare to try it. Chris from TW felt 10lbs was playable and only stopped at hand strung, in the top pros we have Volandry at 26lbs and guys like Safin at 70. Don't let society's prejudices decide what's right for you.
