Wawrinka big hitter!

I have been paying attention how He has developed in these past 3 years and now He can serve 222, 224 Km/h often and He can crush forehands now.
I am enjoying to see another one hander in the mix of the top 20.

Yeah he is hitting big lately and it's catching a lot of people off guard and I think that's why he pulls so many upsets. Should be interesting against Roddick tomorrow.

That is what I can't understand, because it seems to be only upper body brutal strength to hit that hard without using his legs.
I wonder the damage He could cause if He used his legs properly on his serve.

I was kind of wondering that when I tried to simulate Wawrinka's serving motion.
But you have to take into account how fast his racquet acceleration is when taking the racquet out of his shoulder... it's Roddick-like acceleration on that arm.

I think Wawrinka is way more talented than his ranking suggests.

I hope he beats Roddick tomorrow.

Always wondered about it too. Now, I don't know what is proper technique and what is not (and certainly it is different for different players) but his motion just seems so unorthodox. I want to see him crack a few regular motion serves; whether the speed goes up or not (and I think it should), that's another story.

He's improved a lot and progressing nicely. But I would not call him a big hitter by any means. His backhand is still a liability and is not at all consistent.

When you're basically running players like Monfils off their feet and hitting plenty of untouchable winners you are certainly in the 'big hitter' category. At least for that match.

Did you NOT see his match against Monfils last night?

His backhand was a winner machine and more consistent than most other pros' forehands.

He is partially right though. In the past, he lost a couple of matches just because he was going for the backhand winners as usual and not hitting anything. Happened less in the recent past but still could be considerer as a weakness.

And of course he is a big hitter! He often hits clear and fast winners, especially on serve and backhand. Nowadays this is almost rare.

Wawrinka is playing the best he's ever played.
He hasn't lost a set yet and only today I saw around 25 aces among other beautiful BH winners...
He has a shot against Djoker who has been cruising as well.

I think Stanislas issue is with confidence he always had the talent. Remember, a few years ago Stanislas reached the top 10 on the ATP Tour. The problem for Stanislas is he always was in Roger Federer's shadow in Switzerland and that is hard. It must be difficult for Stanislas to constantly hear people in Switzerland talk about Federer and not about him. He's got the talent and beating Murray at the US OPEN and now Roddick at the Australian Open is excellent. He is definitely improving his slam results because he's got the entire package to become a serious threat. I am also glad he improved his fitness because I felt that was the one area where he was lacking in his game.

Not really, his weaknesses in the past have been his second serve and his forehand, but the onehander has always been money.

In fact, for a while I would refer to him as the Prince of the double fault. His ability to close matches so far is what's been really surprising.

It is amazing how much pace he generates on that serve. As an openent it must be very hard to judge what he is throwing at you.

Seems as though as soon as his divorce became poublic knowledge he started playing better? Maybe he just need to get that stress off of his back and now he can focus back on his tennis.

I think he is playing great, and its nice to see him excel at this tournament.

Isn't Federer having issues with Wawrinka and Swiss tennis in general? Anyway, Wawrinka has been practicing against Federer for years. You can't ask for a better hitting partner. If you don't put the ball away against Federer when you have the chance, he will make you pay more than any other player. Not too surprised at Wawrinka's success. Yeah, he is a big hitter. Especially on that backhand.

Something about him reminds me of Magnus Norman. Not the great 1hbh.

Wawrinka is playing really well now.

Now He has a bomb serve great forehand and BH, now He gotta move well.

I haven't watched him much recently except the Berdych match, but he is using the slice more, and it is a good, low, deep slice that actually gives opponents trouble. He used to hit topspin backhands far too often before, much like Gasquet. Good play from him, he certainly has the power to blast winners off both sides from anywhere, the extra rhythm in his match play i.e. working the point, opening up the court and then putting the ball away, is great for his game. Big, big serve too.

watched part of the Berdych vs Wawrinka match. Stan played tactically smarter and within himself in that match. nice to see his ongoing progress.

Possibly. More free time, more focus. He even said that having a new coach and want to concentrate on tennis and not get distracted from parenting.

I can see both Wawrinka and Gasquet ending the year in the top 10, at this rate. Especially because they can play well at grass courts and hardcourts and claycourts. With a good draw, they can both make quarters at Wimbledon, and here they get a chance to upset for a place in quarters as well.

Guys like Almagro, Verdasco won't do anything on grass.

Wawrinka was definitely hitting big of both wings I felt sorry for the ball yesterday, both were thumping the ball merciless.
