It is ludicrous to suggest Oracene cannot have an opinion. The issue here for some people is she had the guts to make her opinion public. Oracene doesn't have to like Clijsters and quite frankly that is Oracene's opinion. She has a right to speak her mind about the other players on the WTA Tour. Oracene knows a lot more about the WTA than fans on a tennis website.

Right, everyone can have an opinion, freedom of speech, right? And everyone has the right to judge her character. To many folks, that was a stupid move by her mother b/c her daughters loss some fans. Even anyone who know little tennis understand Kim is a great for the game, hear nothing but good things being said about her. Oracene’s insults can only proved that she hate Kim b/c she’s a proven winner and a role model, robbed her daughter’s spot light, insecure of Kim getting too popular, never get over the past when Kim eliminate her daughters at the slam(since kim became a mother).
Smart people don’t make tragic mistake like Oracene just did. Take a look at the parents of Nadal and Federer. Their rivalry is intense, either one of them is either #1 and the other has to settle #2. And yet, the parents don’t talk trash about the other player. In fact, they appreciate the rivalry, respect one’s win or loss, congratulate the winner, shake hands and even gave hug after the match. That’s classy and educated people. Oracene cannot even compared to Fed/Nadal parents’ pinky! Had Federer’s parents ever said something that half as bad as Oracene, I would be very disappointed. I feel sorry for the Serena fans.

If anything we all know Serena is not the type to bite her tongue about whom she does and does not like, as evidenced by her comments on Henin, Jankovic, and Safina in the past. But her and Kim do seem to have a decent relationship. Again, not saying they are the best of friends, but if Serena legitimately didn't like Kim then she's not the type to be fake about it.

You totally missed the point. It's not about Serena's chances against the field(e.g. KIm, Li). If you want to talk about your Serena's chance, that's another topic. The point is Serena is irrevalent in down under b/c no one miss her. Kim and the other players provided more entertaning than enough to need Serena. In fact, I would say this year final is WAY better than last year. I've already proved you wrong about IW and 2010 US open, where the event still gain wealth and popularity without Serena, and that was in US soil. Now imagine in Australia(half a world away), even an 18 years old Bernard Tomic is WAY more reconizable figure than Serena!

If you believe last year AO(with Serena) is better than this year then that’s your opinion. I think this year is better despite no Serena. Schiavone & Kuznetsova was a classic match. This year final produces more quality tennis than last year. A returned Henin was not the same prime Henin when she played Serena in the final. WTA often being labeled as boring(compare to ATP), but this AO was a much improved. I’m happy for the WTA and so should all the fans.
I’m strictly talking about the AO event. Tomic is a native Australian, a young talented player with a bright future. It’s not an usual for him receiving attention by fans coming from his own country. Serena is not playing thus not visible..how many time do Aussie fans talk about Serena? If you have been watching the AO, you would know.

Well stated. I don't think anyone would suggest that the Williams Sisters' mother is not entitle to express an opinion; but it is a two way street. Say something dumb, you open yourself up to critizism.

Is anyone that watched the semifinals of the 2009 US Open when Serena threatened a lineswoman with bodily harm really surprised that Mama Oracene is calling Kim a "medusa"? Like Mother, like daughter.

People say they are shocked that Oracene blasted Clijsters yet they aren't shocked at the racism and sexism Serena and Venus experience. No one seemed shocked when Venus was booed by the racist white Australian crowd after her injury at the 2011 Australian Open.
