It's pretty simple, the people who claim to be so outraged and offended by the Williams sisters are most likely pretty racist themselves if this thread is any evidence.

What happened was, Clijsters came back and destroyed them and therefore the Williams brothers and their parents got pi..d.
The Williams brother's father was the same one who said He was going to have a tennis academy only for blacks.

Talking about the mom's "wigs" and all of the other comments about her looks reveal pretty thinly veiled racism.
The extreme amount of hatred directed to some tennis players...is pretty telling.

"The Madusah scare" sounds like a band playing the tent at Coachella, so I'm guessing Oracene means the Medusa stare, a reference to the mythological maiden who was robbed of her beauty by Athena and made so hideous that you turned to stone simply by looking at her face. That must mean Oracene either thinks Clijsters is ugly, has snakes for hair or will be beheaded by Perseus in an attempt to rescue his mother from the evil grips of King Polydectes. I'm guessing it's the third one.

Oracene Price, mother of Venus and Serena Williams, is rooting for Li Na in Saturday's Australian Open final, both because she likes the idea of someone new winning a Slam and because she doesn't like the idea of Kim Clijsters winning one. During a succession of tweets on Thursday night, Oracene bashed Clijsters, calling her dubious and comparing her to the mythological beast, Medusa.
Somebody evidently tweeted her the answer and Oracene reveals she's pulling for Li Na. That works. I think I am too, if we're being honest. She then explains why:

Kim Clijsters is cute and doesn't need to be bashed by that clan just because she looks better , plays better and beat them all the time. BTW Venus s retiring soon, because she can't play anymore.

Agree, Oracene's bad behavior shouldn't reflect on Venus and Serena.
Why would you say that since Kim beat Serena in straight sets at the US Open the last time they played and Serena will be recovering from injury?

Agreed, I do dislike seeing the hate that a pleasant and thoughtful person like Wozniacki gets, simply because she is blonde and boring. It bothers me, quite a bit.

Not sure about the millions, but just in the WTA alone, thundervolley is very skillful at demonstrating his hatred toward Wozniacki, Sharapova, Henin, Ivanovic, Dementieva, and many more. Notice he mostly targeted at attractive players. Perhaps good looks despise him b/c the WS are not in their league !

Sorry, it's hard for me to be a fan for this kind of player. However, I respect her tennis excellence and her achievements.
In contrast, disliking other players b/c the way they look, blonde hair, their style of play, and even wishes them to retire from tennis inappropriate, and embarrassing as a fan.

Fair enough to take out Henin, but not Elena, Maria or Caro. These players tend to get more compliments for their good looks. Watch the match between Caro and Maria at the US Open, the commentator said how lucky we get to see two beautiful women playing against one another. To be honest, I’ve never heard any commentator compliment Serena for her beauty.
Plenty of people see the WS attractive, but hardly comparable to the like of Maria or Ivanovic. They made appearance on SI, FHM and Maxim magazine...top 99 most desirable women, including Kournikova and a host of hot celebrities.
No, it’s not about race issue. I think black women are beautiful such as Halle Berry or Beyonce. Also black women qualify Miss USA pageant and even win sometime. Most recently was Crystle Stewart, does that ring a bell?
I think that is exactly our point.
Beauty is subjective. The commentators who make such comments about Maria and Caroline share a certain demographic and are promoting a certain viewpoint...not to mention that is how Maria, etc are marketed..so their "beauty" is pushed on us.
I don't find them particularly attractive to be honest with you. They look very plain and ordinary to me, but that is my opinion.
Like I said, beauty is subjective....though certainly influenced by the popular media and the ideas that they promote.

I have to agree. Not just that fact that Serena is black, but the fact that so many commentators/sports writers are white. When they are praising the women players, they are putting forth their own preferences, people are usually more attracted to people in their own race. Like you sai dit's all subjective.
if the commentators have nothing better to talk about than a player's looks then someone is not doing their job..whether it be the player or the commentator is there is tennis going on why arent they talking about tennis...
like i had said before it is a bit of an insult to the female players for them to be going about their livelihood for them to continually be objectified...its honestly not a compliment at that point
