Hit #2 - not feeling the Lux at 50# Sure I get alot of spin, but I still manage to hit long....

Also, noticed that my rhythm is off. Been used to hitting with lose strings, but now that I actually have to swing to get some pop, I'm all over the place.... ugh...

lux alu can go downhill kind of fast...but the first hit is usually pretty amazing...

doesn't the warning on viagra say something about calling your doctor if you experience stiffness lasting longer than 8 hours?

watched a little bit of blake getting crushed by djoker. looked like JV vs varsity. i think blake used to be #8 in the world.

got my new RDIS200s in the mail today. woot.
i bought epoxy and balsa wood to possibly make them 27.5" long
but dunno if i can do it to them. especially since i have no proof
that it will make me even .0001% better. it might make my backhand
5% better but everthing else 5% worse.
hrmm. better leave it alone for now.

Just find a couple old Rd-Ti 50 longs, similar weight and flex. A little more HL than a 200. But should give you a pretty close feel to the 200 with the extra length to see if you even want to extend them.

I can get the one I lent to my friend back. He never uses it anyway. I think its 4 1/2 grip size. Just lemme know man.

i had the rdis 200 dats. surprised you picked up a couple. they are similar to the rdis 100 mp with a bit more pop and flex. i guess if you're coming from the EXTREMZ to the MAX they make a bit of sense. figure most of the pop and spin you like from the EXTREMZ but with a lot more control and feel. hope it works out for ya.

dats i was thinking of buying the rdis200 as my next stick too.....i demoed it a few times but cant commit to that paintjob =/

Dats, two things to consider if you do extend those RDIS200s:

1. An extension of 0.5 inch will increase swing weight of at least 10 points but maybe even 25, every frame is different. So according to TW, 326+10 isn't too bad but 326+25=351 would be a bit too much considering the extra length. Typically 27.5 frames with manageable swing weights are in the 330-340 range, otherwise they're too sluggish.

2. Check my comments on the last few posts in that balsa wood extension thread. Either use bass wood instead, using that method, or I have 3/8" balsa wood that you can cut and use it lengthwise against the grain for additional strength.

dats two things to consider if you want to shorten the rdis 200.

1 -- if you shorten it, it becomes the rdis 150 mp with the best of both the rdis 100 mp and the rdis 200 mp.

2 -- it will compensate for your freakishly long orangutan arms which is makes it impossible for you to find your perfect contact point. therefore you are as consistent as 3 month old rutabagas.

well, once i get an idea in my head, i can't stop from doing it no matter how many people tell me not to do it.

i almost impaled myself several times just trying to remove the staples.
cut the balsa wood to size.
glued them together.
stuck them in the cap.
tried to epoxy them to the handle.
but the handle only had 1/4 inch or less to hook onto....
wrapped some grip tape around the handle/cap junction
and crossing fingers.
i have no confidence that it will hold up.
i plan on choking up the 1/2 inch on forehands and only using the extra length for 1st serves and backhands. so hopefully any increased swingweight will not be too noticeable.

rdis200 - backhands feel awesome with it and i liked the flexy feel on forehands. if i wasnt careful, it would fly on me, so i plan on stringing them with Lux Original closer to 60 than 56 (like i did on the demo). volleys were pretty bad with the 200... too flexy for me. but i stink at volleys anyway. 1st serves felt 90% of the RDIS100mp which i loved, but still have to work on better 2nd serves.

my tennis enthusiast friend said that i played better with the igSpeed, and if they were cheaper (and i had seen the goofy novak commercials beforehand) i would just get them. but for some reason i kept using the rdis200 during the demo period so somehow i connected with it and after a few horrible games, i actually started to play some decent points with it.

so the 1/2 inch extension was probably dumb and probably won't even hold... but hopefully this 5 minute epoxy really can handle the ukranian twisted wrister style of hitting. wish me luck!

anybody have a staple gun and good staples for racquet? that would make me feel 5% more confident!

my wrist was really painful for a week, but a week of wrapping it up and not playing seems to have healed it up. still nervous about hitting with it though.
guess i'll just go to wall and practice a little more each day.
another reason i got the rdis was that it felt like i was able to just use a SW grip and hit the ball "normally". whenever i get a Head racquet, i end up going crazy western and my forehand gets 3 extra hitches in my swing. hopefully i can re-learn how to hit a clean ball with less backswing and a less xXxtreme grip!

VAMOS TODO LOCO AMIGOS!!!!!! (D- in spanish.. sorry)
thanks for the help and kind words twmac.. i pour out some fermented beet juice for all my talktennis homies!
go epoxy go! please be stronger than steel!

^^^^ lol Dats, way too funny man! FYI, best way to take off the staples is with an awl... Epoxy works really well IMO. The balsa is actually the weak link, not the epoxy. G/L Dats!

Dats,

Im gonna agree with paul here and say that the wood will probably fail before the epoxy. But if it does fail just use some of this stuff.

jbweld_lrg.jpg

J-B WELD is packaged in two tubes. One contains liquid steel/epoxy resin, and the other contains hardener. When mixed together in equal portions, a chemical reaction occurs that turns the mixture into a compound as hard and tough as steel -- and with similar properties.

Properties (psi)
Tensile Strength: 3960
Adhesion: 1800
Flex Strength: 7320
Tensile Lap Shear: 1040
Shrinkage: 0.0%
Resistant to: 500° F

Mechanics -- you can use J-B WELD with confidence. It is designed for safe, reliable, permanent repairs in engine compartments and heated environments up to 500° F. It's strong as steel and impervious to water, gasoline, chemicals, and acids. Working with J-B WELD is quick, easy, and convenient -- and saves you time, work, and money!

Are you going to be like the guy in the crazy glue commercial where we see you advertising this stuff suspended in midair while being stuck to a metal beam?

got 1 RDIS200 strung w/ BBO at 58.5M/57.5X
should be just over 12oz strung w/ overgrip.

gonna slap an overgrip on it and let it be for the day.
p.s. - dunno about summer humidity, but right now i really like Gamma Supreme. try it out if you haven't already!

p-man: i tried 2 awls, pliers, screwdriver, wirecutters, etc to get the staples out. eventually had to use a drill to make small holes to make room for an awl.
even then it was still a pain. but what a JOY it was when i finally yanked each staple out!

hw, i used loctite epoxy 3200psi supposedly. hopefully i used enough and didn't EFF this up!

swung it around the living room. yup, by the feel of it, i'm prolly goin pro now! pretty sure my inside-out forehand is going to be 9.0 ukraine tennis/buffet combined rating. (it doesn't get much higher than that, i think?)

the 200 paint is definitely not as great as the ferrari 100. but it has a classic look to me that will look nice when i am drinking a glass of Scotch and listening to Sinatra. definitely needs the YY stencil in red though!

You know, you lost me at all the technical specifications, but when you started talking about racquets having pretty colors (and scotch and sinatra), I could relate. Is it bad that I love the way the Prestige Pro looks? Or is this something attributable to the fact that I bring some estrogen to the table in this forum? :)

Man those staples must have been a pain! Usually I just use the awl and it'll poke right thru the edge of the butt cap plastic and under the staples...but then again maybe Yonex butt caps and staples are extra hard to get out or maybe titanium plated?

I've used the Loctite epoxy stuff - it's plenty strong.

Nope, I love that Youtek Prestige pj too! I was telling Downs_Chris that has to be one of the best pj's out there. I'm always tempted to buy me one or two even though I've never really hit with one and may not even play with it but since the pj is so nice...lol

P.S. I love me some good aged Scotch too but my preference most times is fine Cognac.

yah, these YY staples were infinitely worse than ones on a dunlop i experimented on. i almost gave up, and then i started bleeding, and i knew somehow i must remove the staples or die trying. its the same attitude i bring on the court. except this time i WON! dats 2 - staples 0

I am, soo like lost in this conversation. Strings, tensions, woods, woodies, viagra. What happened to a good ole hard on?

Oops. Guess I can't say that on the 'net.

Seriously, I've been AWOL on a w/e roadtrip to visit my sister in Chapel Hill. UNC's out. VCU's in. Gotta like it.

Also...Season is about to start. We've got a non-USTA league around here (I affectionately call it the Ladies-Who-Lunch-But-Play-Tennis-First League) that started today. I actually subbed for a "higher" level team this morning (with my regular dubs partner who was also a "sub"). We won. But it should have been better. I couldn't hit a service-return to save my life. Oh well. We still won, even without our best stuff.

Aside: played on the court next to my OB/GYN's...wife. After some small side talk away from her...I was encouraged to (re)introduce myself. Not always the easiest thing to do to a woman whose hubs had seen ev'er part of you. But she was sooooo cool. "Do you have any pictures," she asked. "I love to see my husband's work!" Hahaha....I was very happy to pull out recent photos of my two little cuties...that her husband (very successfully) delivered!!!

Bottom line though: USTA weekend season starts this Saturday. And I'm in the lineup. In Singles!!!!

I so hope you kill it! Even though I don't know you, I'll share in the sense of this lil' group thing we've got going on here in TWMAC! The only USTA I'm attempting this year is a flex league and maybe some tourneys....last time I played in a tourney...virtually on my comeback (seriously hadn't picked up a racket or practiced), I played in a 3.5 level tourney and broke my toe...needless to say I lost b/c I had to play the whole second set in pain (refused to retire)....

As for the guys' talk of Viagra and woodies and all the manly specs....I seriously think they're just trying to impress us :)

i think return of serve is easier in singles. doesn't have to be as precisely located -- i.e. away from the guy (or gal) at net. you can chip it or hit a lazy slice if you're playing a baseliner. in dubs i find less margin of error. and i needs lots of margins of errors.

Speaking of hair, I was watching baggy play. I have a video. Let me get it *goes to photobucket*... he is practicing with Gulbis. Baggy did not look happy because Gulbis either hit a rocket that smacked the back fence or was knocking the net cord. Flat flat flat.. like some korean we know *wink wink wink*

The biggest difference I've noticed in trying to learn the doubles game (from being predominantly a singles player)...is that I can't play a singles game. I have to play percentages in doubles and that kind of bugs me...I end up failing miserably because I still can't shake the singles mentality. And frankly, half the time I'm wondering where to stand...UGH.

Dude, you should be worried if gay men don't hit on you....having gay friends, that's a testament to your attractiveness. So, don't worry about the rainbow flags...just get free drinks where you can and politely decline if a member of the wrong gender wants to take you elsewhere. If a guy does hit on you....you must think to yourself...damn, I'm hot. Smile, and kindly refuse. :)

Key West is a blast for a weekend roadie!

Bull n whistle always makes for a fun time. Sloppy Joes is a blast, after all it was good enough to Ernest. Bear Bottom Beach club (if its still there) is an fun piano bar. Ricks/Durty Harry's is pretty much where to go for the "club scene on the weekends and is good for people watching especially all the coeds from UMiami and ladies out for girls night. Skip out on Margaritaville, just allot of families and overpriced burgers.

And just in case you wanted some more exotics check out Red Garter Saloon or Teasers anytime after midnight... least that's what my Navy buddies who were posted at NAS KeyWest have tokd me ha!

Txt me for more details or if you have any more questions bout where to go!

Sappy,

Nice pics, but Paulman may be right with some points. They do truck stuff from the inland. Mainly the pretty girls from south florida. Who I cannot in any measure complain about. I invested in sunglasses immediately so I wouldn't be like tennismonkey and stare right at them.

"Like looking into the sun.. you don't want to look directly at them, you want to get a sense and look away".. /seinfeld.

I googled key west girls and ironically fort lauderdale girls showed.

I think I recognize one of them from Blondies dive bar on the beach.

p.s. Tennismonkey, I patented the name "el jefe". So the next person needs to come up with a name. I suggest "el maestro". If it's you, I suggest "The Kraken".. because I've seen you at the buffet line... and like Clash of the titans coupled with your four stomachs.. one could say "release the kraken".

Also, seriously no asians (or almost) down here. So come down with the family or Sappy and be the tokens for the weekend.
