Is the all Court style making a small comeback?

I watched Nadal beat Ferrer, and had to admire Ferrer's game even in defeat. It is an awesome all court game that has a sound strategy. He drop shotted Nadal a lot and ended up getting nice points at net. The drop shot strategy is actually pretty good because it gets tiring chasing those things down. The problem is that Nadal is in God Mode, and the drop shots do not really take effect until a 4th or 5th set against a person as insanely fit as Nads. So in a 3 set tournie, it's not going to happen, but I have a feeling Ferrer probably left the court feeling pretty good about his Monte Carlo performance.

Just from seeing that strategy executed against Nadal, it made me happy to see that it was working and can be effective. Ferrer provided quite a battle for Nadal even in a straight set loss.

Is it crazy to think that a younger up and comer with more power could not utilize this strategy quite well?

For anyone that thinks Nadal is an all courter, you need to watch the Monte Carlo finals to see Ferrer play.

He didn't say Ferrer is an example of playing an all court game. Just saying this could work.

I disagree that's he a good example of an all-court player even if he did/does show some good skills when he has to in the forecourt.

Melzer on the other hand.... he showed some mad all-court skills in his win over Federer at times.

Its progress from people saying Nadal has an all court game last week.

If Ferrer is being called an all-court player then no, it's not making a small comeback, people's standards are just lowering.

I have no doubt that Ferrer has the skills to play some net points and some clever all-court things. But it's not his A-game. It's something he can sort of do when his A-game isn't good enough, like against Nadal.

Well he basically played that style against Nadal, which is what got me thinking.

It is pretty tiring to chase down droppers for 5 sets.

Getting to the net on Nadal was working for Ferrer a lot more than I expected as well.

I am just thinking it could be a great style for young player to develop against defensive baseliners.

I thought Murray played a better all court game against Nadal in his second set against him in the semis than Ferrer did. He drop shotted, he served and volleyed, he rallied on better than equal term with Nadal, he sliced, he hit topspin, lobbed etc. I thought it was a beautiful exhibition of all court tennis.
