Huge news about Federer's racket!!!

Was on the phone with the Wilson rep today...and he casually mentions Wilson is getting Del Potro a new stick. cool. then he informs me Fed has been testing out a few new prototypes to hit with, with the main difference in that he's testing out a larger head size. 93-95!!!!!!!!

so fed may finally not shank those bhs so much anymore!!!

Except that I've noticed Rafa or was it Joker shanking at WO. So maybe they need larger frames, too.

Maybe its a racquet that Federer will be said to play with, but really it's a racquet to cash in on the general market which must surely have twigged by now that they can't play with his real racquet.

sorry wrong section. if mods can please move/merge this thread. thanks!

obviously the retail version will be different spec than the real fed

well, Pete admitted that he should have switched to a larger head in the final years of his career.

Fed is learning from the previous GOAT's misjudgement.

I really dont think much will happen. you shank with a 90, youre gunna shank with a 95. you hit long with a 95, youre going to hit long with a 90. its going to make some difference, but not a whole lot.

yeah should have gone all the way to a 100. If you're gonna go through the growing pains of switching sticks might as well do it right

i really do agree with you on this one. i actually think that the wt should be lowered, that would be the first step, for me.

i can hit the same with the prestige mid and warrior os. but the weight and balance makes it a whole lot easier.

Next yr Wilson releases the 100" head. Then a special edition that is polarized. Do not forget Fed's 2012 Olympic model.

No, they don't. They zoom in on a Wilson BLX racquet with ball for an interesting composition, not Federer's Wilson. You might notice Fed sitting on his bench on the other side of the court.

lol ok maybe not

And some easily exited people thinks he shanks because his racquet is too small, not because he's trying to hit extremely fast balls a microsecond after they bounce. If he would take a step back he would shank less, but that's just not his game.

Huge news would be if Roger repents and finally switches to a two handed BH. :)

A couple of square inches probably won't change his fate in matches against a certain spaniard.

federer hits 3 double falts and did lots of a unforced errors...(over 40)...it is not so much but it could be a proof of the switching...a larger heah racket give you more power on the shot and lots of federer shot went beyond the baseline...

i think for someone like fed it would make a major difference. for us our technique sucks, so it doesnt matter. but at his level where everything is so fast and precise and he has the superior technique he can benefit from any improvement, such as bigger head size.

just think if he and nadal switched sticks. how much spin do you think nadal will get with the tour90???

Is Federer actually playing with a 95 for Davis Cup? Do we have any proof? The videos are sketchy to say the least

Probably not as much as he gets now...but we can never say for sure.

What' sure is he'll still hit with more spin than you and me combined:)

Certainly looks like a bigger racquet to me:

Perhaps he used the bigger racquet in the first set and lost so he switched back to his 90 to clean up the next 3 sets?

I hope this was sarcasm.

You shank, not the racquet.
Exactly, which is why Federer switching to a bigger racquet won't help him shank any less. In fact, I'd say he'd shank more since bigger racquets are less maneuverable and get in the way more, especially on one-handed backhands.

^^^^^^

Just seems unlikely that he'd swap out rackets mid match. He's the greatest player of all time for gosh sakes... I feel like the guy wouldn't allow himself to switch in a match.

Wishful thinking?

Wilson rep told me hes not switching until after US Open. but yea he could be taking it out of his bag during some matches just to see how it feels in live action

Tbh I don't think he will change...he may try it and when he lose with it hes going to change back...the feel is going to be way to different, different weight and head size. Hes been using that racquet his whole career its kind of going to be awkward if he would change now. Its just not like he is playing bad hes just not as good when he players Nadal and Djokovic.

In Fed's case it is not so much about hitting long,I think it is all about him having to hit the heavy ball from Rafa on his B/H.When he is on the move with the ball being so heavy sometimes he doesn't quite hit the middle and it drops short.Rafa runs around and, well,we all know what comes next.Advantage Rafa.

no idea. wilson rep just said that he is currently trying out new prototypes on court. he didint say where or when. maybe its only on practice courts

I tracked down the Wilson rep.

Indeed, it is true, Fed will take 95sqi sticks out of his bag in between sets to see how they feel.

Do some shadow swings.

So it is completely believable he will switch to a new 95" racquet because some rep from Wilson says so, what do you expect someone who works for Wilson to say. :)

JD, do you think his racquet will contain Cortex Crystals?

I spoak to the Wilson Rep and indeed Roger's TX95 will have an infusion of Cortex and BLX Crystals for the ultimate in feel, power and control.

The Wilson Rep also told me he will be switching to Red Alert.
