A couple string tests

Just a little b5e/addiction update.

It's playing better now that it has softened up a little. Volleys are better and there's more spin. It's also lasting longer than I thought it would. I'd say it will last another hour or two. (I expected it to have broken by now).

Im going to string a setup tonight.

How long did it last? My last B5E hybrid only lasted 6 hours, which was a shock, because the previous one lasted three times that...

Tonight is a side by side of pacific classic/sppp and pacific classic/wc scorpion. Both are at 56/53.

We'll see how it goes.

Also, I'm playing a 31 year old 5.0 tomorrow. He's got a big game, so this should be a good test.

I might give the gut/scorpion a trial by fire tomorrow though.

Pacific classic/weisscannon scorpion. 56/53

Stringing-again, I hate stringing gut mains and poly crosses, but weisscannon strings are pretty easy. Not too bad. No friction burn.

Groundstrokes- and so it begins. This impressed me in virtually every way possible. Great spin, control, and power. Placement was easy and consistent, and it made the absolute most beautiful sound when you hit it. It made that popping crack sound everyone loves. I'd gladly pay 10 bucks a string job just to have that sound on every setup.
Overall-9.5/10

Volleys- again, really good. It's really soft, and provides a nice feedback. Touch shots were great, and driving volleys as well as overheads were great.
Overall- 9/10

Serves- you know what i said about the b5e addiction hybrid? This was the same. It just clicked. Nice pop, great kick, and it made that addicting cracking sound.
Overall-10/10

Durability- this looks about average. Which is slightly below average.
Overall- 6.5/10

Softness-1 being the softest, 10 being the stiffest.
Overall-3/10

This is far and away my favorite setup. It does everything really well and it's soft as well. Plays great.
Overall- 9.5/10 (for durability)

You should try Pacific Gut w/ MSV Co-Focus 17g cross. I have this setup on order and hear the Co-Focus is a really nice cross to gut mains.

I'm glad you like the setup! I may still test some L-TEC strings (if the GG Tennis people will stop avoid the issue and give me straight answers), but gut/Scorp is awesome for me right now. In fact, the only thing I'd look for is to improve the durability (as you noted).

Also note that I am a pretty bad string breaker. I (cleanly) break strings alot. Very few strings stay in my racket past 8 hours.

Good to know. I, on the other hand, very rarely break strings, which is why the only thing I'd be looking for is a string like Scorpion but that holds playability a bit longer.

U&C, are you the good junior player, or is that Power Player?

I'd like to think I'm pretty good :)

I've been as high as a 4 star on tennis recruiting, but I've had wins over 5 stars. I beat one blue chip that was 2 years younger than me 7-6 7-5 a couple weeks ago (not in a tournament) so I can't say it was serious.

I dunno about power player.

U&C, I wanna see you play. Have a youtube?

I don't.

And...ummm... My parent are kind of strict.

Posting videos of myself on the Internet would NOT go over well at all.

I can in 2 years when I go to college though... Sorry.

Edit: just asked them. They said if I can buy a video camera I can film myself. Apparently we don't have one.

Heh, no problem, I remember those days :). I want to see what gut/Scorp can do when the player knows what they're doing.

Man that is my favorite all time set up. It makes the most beautiful noise I've ever heard a racket make. It also plays beautifully.

So if it makes it to 6, that would be average for you?

For gut mains, that'd be good.

I don't normally break poly, but if it isn't broken by the 6 hour mark, it gets cut out.(I have a sensitive elbow to dead strings).

But yes, 6 hours with gut would be average.

Alright. I played the 5.0 last night.

It was definitely different. He hit the ball with more weight, especially his serve.

The biggest difference though was the fact that instead of playing defensive, he would take the ball and try to instantly get control of the point again. Luckily, I was able to handle that much.

I won 7-5 6-2.

It was all about figuring out his serve. He held without an issue until 5-5 and I suddenly was able to string a few points together and he double faulted once. I got up 6-5 and served it out. Everything from then on was smooth sailing.

I will say I played well today. I didn't hit my backhand as well as I would have liked, but it was ok.

On a side note, when you play someone who hits a really heavy ball, and you use gut mains poly crosses, you get ridiculous spin. You can feel the strings bend and snap back. It's awesome.

Speaking of which, the gut scorpion combo is holding up really well. The wear doesn't look any worse than at the 4 hour mark. It might last a lot longer than I thought.

Very nice. As I said to rafafan or whatever his name is, especially as a junior, you have no idea what adult players will hit the ball like. You may think you hit hard or heavy, but honestly, it doesn't compare. Back in my day :)lol: ), I hit against this 4.5 adult a few times. I thought I could beast my forehand and serve because especially on the latter stroke, few juniors aside from the top ones could get it back. He ate it for lunch!

Yeah, I was able to hit good enough shots to stay with him, but his shot was more heavy than I was used to.

I think if I were to hit with him regularly (if I got used to that weight) I wouldn't have much trouble beating him 6-2 6-2.

Hit with a guy today who had some seriously heavy strokes. Definitely takes some getting used to.

Yeah, but near the end of the match I sort of liked it. It basically made the spin for me, because I could really feel the gut bend and snap back. It was actually fun.

I recommend you at least try it mikeler. It really is my favorite setup of all time.

The gut scorpion is about to break.

First person gets it for suggestions.
