A couple string tests

Okay, thanks for that info. Was tension maintenance better or worse than Scorp, or was it hard to tell? I really wish WC made a round version of B5E...

Truthfully, I think b5e is just about the same as scorpion, albeit more spin. That's what it feels like, at least to me. Tension seems to hold about the same.

Here we go.

Xcel premium strung at 56.

Stringing- easy. Really easy, actually. No problems, no friction, and no kinking.

Groundstrokes- nice. It has that x-1 effect where you get lots of controlled power. Great pop, nice spin, and flat shots are good as well.
Overall- 8/10

Serves- great. Like I said, this string has all sorts of controlled power. Flat and slice serves are awesome, but kicks lacked a little spin.
Overall- 9/10

Volleys- again, really good. Touch shots were great, crunched volleys were solid. Overheads were a little overpowered.
Overall- 8.5/10

Durability- average for a multi, maybe a little better
Overall- 6/10

Stiffness- 1 being softest, 10 being stiffest.
Overall- 2.5/10

This is truly a great multi. It has plenty of controlled power, holds tension pretty well, soft, and a good response and feel.
Overall- 9/10

man, this is just a great thread. thanks to U&C for taking the time to write all this up and for others adding their feedback and suggestions. I'm learning a lot.

Definitely going to try the Pacific Classic/B5E setup.

the multis I'm most interested in are from Technifibre. Their Multi Feel, and X-1 BiPhase. I want to try out both, especially the former.

The xcel broke this morning. :(

Next will be full scorpion, then fxp tour (I think), then b5e mains and gut crosses.

To posture guy, x-1 is basically xcel premium with terrible tension maintenance.

Just talk to mikeler about multifeel. I don't have much experience with it and we have similar views on strings.

yeah, I saw mikeler's post about multifeel, made me want to try it. If I'm remembering correctly, he was very positive about that string.

To Up&Comer, PV, Mikeler, or anyone else who might know, is Attraction Power the same string as Babolat Addiction? I'm really liking Addiction as a cross string, but I don't really want to pay $160 for a reel...

Absolutely no idea.

I doubt it though.

I'm interested in comparing Pacific ToughGut to Classic. Especially in terms of how long it lasts as a hybrid and the differences in feel and power. If it lasts significantly longer than the Classic (and it seems like it might), it might be worth it. Any chance you could try that out?

Yeah, sure. Ive got 3 in front of you. (full scorpion, fxp your, and b5e mains with gut crosses.)

I'm losing track. I'll take more recommendations after these four.

I liked X-1 better the first few hours.

Never used it, sorry.

thanks for the string reviews. i appreciate the TT members that have threads like these up for us.

suggestion - put names of string job and links to each review on your first page. i think mikeler does something like that.

yeah, I love the way mikeler formats his review threads. makes it easy to zero in on strings of interest.

but even if U&C doesn't do that, this has been a terrific thread, but it will get unwieldy in a few months, I'd imagine.

PVAudio does it a little bit different from me but either way, some kind of TOC would be great since this thread does seem destined for playtest greatness.

yeah, both of you guys do a great job of indexing on the first page what's to come. Makes the thread useful once it gets over a 100 posts.

Sounds like a good idea. I have absolutely no idea how to though.

Edit: Just realized. I'll do it now.

Zo twist (black) strung at 51/49

Stringing: like just about every geared poly in existence. It was like bhbr, except it didn't coil over itself as much.
Groundstrokes: Now i know people on this board aren't fans of gamma strings, but that will have no influence on this. The spin was very good. It was pretty low powered, and felt pretty consistent. It felt terrible though, it had a really harsh feedback, not like a really stiff string, but you know what I mean. It was a black code feeling.
Overall: 8/10

Serves: meh, not bad. Lacked a little pop, and they tended to have too much spin for the amount of power they produced.
Overall: 7/10

Volleys: not good. It had a strong, bad feedback. Really aggressive volleys were fine, but anything with touch was bad.
Overall: 5/10

Durability: About average for ploys. Didn't go dead too terribly quickly.
Overall: 8/10

Stiffness- On a scale of 1 being the softest, and 10 being the stiffest
Overall- 8.5/10

Overall, it's a pretty decent playing string, but it didn't feel very good. Not bad, not great either.
Overall: 7/10

Table of Contents is set up!

Im doing full FXP tour tomorrow. I have a match tonight against Tommy, the only blue chip I've ever beat (not in a tournament, but still...), So I'm going to be using the gut/b5e setup for that.

Just a suggestion, maybe organize them alphabetically. Good luck in your match.

Tommy Haas or Robredo?

Personally, I like them in chronological order, so we have a sense of what they are being compared to, surpassing, &c.

Hmm, you may have a good point here. It's easy enough with CTRL-F to search for strings on the page so maybe the way you have it is best.

Just about to string up full fxp tour at 54.

I lost last night 7-6 3-6 7-5.

I played well, though.

Sounds like a good battle. You made him work in the 2 sets you lost which is a positive sign. Lately, I'd rather play well and lose then play like doo doo and win.

Yeah. He was just playing too well.

Fxp will be tonight if it doesn't rain.

Sounds like a good match. That's a good score to put up against someone who's a blue chip. On another note, let us know how FXP tour is I like the concept of a multi/poly blend, but those that I've tried have been rather lackluster...

FXP Tour is a very unique string. Interested to hear your thoughts.

For some reason that made me laugh. It just sounds like something you would say to an 8 year old.

Well, fxp tour is...interesting.

I'm going to hit with it again because I'm not sure what I think about it.

It's not stiff or soft, maybe a 5 on my sitffness scale.

I'll write a review tonight.

Funny - I felt the same way after hitting with FXP Tour.
BUT...I used it in a full bed and thought it was definitely more
soft than stiff...but very MUTED. It doesn't give you a lot of
power and isnn't low powered either. The nice thing about it,
is that it doesn't have the "springi-ness" that multi's have, so it
never gets out of control on hard swings.

My main issue with it is the extremely "muted" feel on impact. Not sure if I like that or not.
