Delpo slowly but surely!

For those of you who saw the davis cup match between nadal and delpo, and for those of you who havent i found some highlights posted at the end of this message, i found it very impressive to see delpo hitting that well against nadal! I mean that guy was just ripping shots! Definitely see delpo getting back into the top 5 scene this year. All i could think about watching this match was how different the outcome wouldve been if it were on a hardcourt, hitting as big as he was in this match!

When he hits that forehand you can see what a danger he is to any of his opponents as in that 1st set of the DC final against Nadal.

Unfortunately, he can't keep it up consistently enough. He doesn't look fit enough to go 5 sets and come out on top. Not these days!

Looks like he served for the 4th set against Nadal on clay? That's freakin' impressive for him. Almost no one has pushed Nadal to a 5th on clay.

Golly! Del Potro hits the ball so hard! I wonder if he'll post improved results at Wimbledon next year. Big serving and big hitting.:) He had 3 great sets against Nadal at Wimby this year.

I posted something (I think on BBC 606 forum before it shut and i came here) about how Delpo could be a threat on grass with his big serve and big wingspan if he could improve his volleys. People laughed. But he gave nadal a hard match, didn't get broken til the 4th set. Could have won the match really. He's not the best mover on grass but he can still be a tough opponent - prepare for tiebreaks. On Clay he can be deadly too. It's actually on hardcourt I've been a little worried this season, would have expected a little better at the US open, but hopefully he'll sort that out and hardcourts won't be too hard on those joints...

Next season will be interesting because he actually has some points to defend, where as this year he had virtually nothing to defend.

im still waiting for him to get a little more variety into his game tho. he will not beat nadal on clay without it

^It was a massive choke when he was 5-3 up in the 4th.
that's too bad, really. :(

i wish him to recover well from this painful loss... but after spending most of 2010 out of the tour, i hope he'll be able to put things into perspective.
can't wait to see him slaughtering the nadal again...

Nadal,Djoko,Federer and Del Potro are the best quartet over the last 5 years.Murray must be replaced by Del Potro, the only player not named Federer,Nadal or Djokovic to win a GS over the last 5 years

great to see him anticipate his own fall. :)

I think Nadal is sensing that Del Potro is getting closer to him on all surfaces. Their encounters on grass and clay were competitive. Del Potro had chances but a high UE count. He had a chance to take Nadal to a 5th set on clay despite playing nowhere near his 2009 level.

After watching Del Potro in Davis Cup this week I predicted he'd be top 5 by the end of next season. His only enemy is his health.

DelPo should do very well.
He made it up to #11 with being out a year and without looking too good at times.

Consistency should go up quite a bit and with that he'll get into even better form and build endurance.

He's also at the age where players start hitting their best physical shape so this should also add to his chances.

Del Potro has hit streaks in the past, there's nothing pointing to it before he does so he may go on one of those at any time. I'll be looking for it. :)

Yeah, Delpo could definitely do better in 2012. He also has a better rank so seeding will ensure he has a better chance to go further in tournaments next year, thus raking up more points.

Yeah, good point on the seeding.

He also has very little to defend next year. I also think he has a good chance to snatch the #5 ranking from Ferrer if he can stay fit and play a consistent season like he did in 2008-2009.

It's all about staying fit and healthy with Del Po and soon enough he will go back to be a force to be reckoned with on tour.
