Good for Federer back injury to not reoccur....he can spend time with the kids and mirka.

Bad....his mind could be out of it in the beginning of the 4th round match. Maybe his opponent can pull away with it.

I say it's a mostly a good thing. Federer won't need much match time to be able to shift through some of his higher gears when he'll need them.

Great for his back and his energy levels come later on in the tournament.

He got walkovers to titles for the entire 2004 - 2007 period, so this is not too surprising.

Spending time with Mirka and the twins...........not so good for his back

might as well lose his next match, you know if he wins the title he will get no credit cos he had one less match, if he loses next match it will be plain that the lack of play robbed him of a chance to go further ;)

what happened anyway?

Beck has a back injury. No jokes.

Good, because:
(1) He gets extra rest.
(2) If his back is still tender, then there is a chance for further recovery.
(3) Fed's good luck pisses SoBad off. See post #4.

As long as he gets through his 4th round match fairly easily then it won't matter in the end. I don't see him having a huge problem with it. His next match will likely be 'rhythm-less' anyway.

All that tea and coffee I've drunk all day to stay awake for it, now I won't be able to sleep and no Fed

Hmph!

He'll wipe Karlovic off the map, I predict. Karlovic has an awesome serve, but anyone in the Top 15-20 will eat him alive, and he really doesn't have any other game. Fed will probably just crosscourt him into submission.

And this is real good for his back, and he can get some rest.

What back? Roger said his back is normal at the start of the tournament. Let's take the man at his word.

I have a healthy back too. I've also blown my back out before, and in a freak accident. Trust me, the back is NEVER the same after it's been injured.

Except for the fact he's beaten Federer and Djokovic in the past, came close to beating Nadal as well, has beaten Tsonga in best of 5 on grass, and has ranked as high as no. 14, so what are you talking about? Karlovic is a dangerous floater in the draw.

I don't particularly like this. If Federer has Karlovic next, he'll have four days without any rythm at all. He needs the workouts cause he's not yet playing great and would lose to todays Nadal in straights if he doesn't improve.

Karlovic is dangerous if his first serve is at least 80%. Anything under that and he's toast. It's really the same with Isner, but at least Isner can get into rallies with his opponents.

I think its bad. Fed is known for his slow starts of tournys. He needs court time.

This is true, but it's Karlo. So Fed will be concentrating mostly on returns, anything that goes beyond the serve is 80-90% Fed. Not to say Karlo isn't dangerous.

Beck according the reverence Federer should receive from all of his competitors: yielding to his majesty without contest.

They actually believed I was going to play in Hisense.

Lol, yeah real asterisk next to this one if Federer wins it. Imagine how much harder if he'd have to beat Andreas Beck for the title.
