Federer could get to no 2 in the rankings after Miami...

1) if he wins the tournament and Nadal doesn't reach the final - might as well be a repeat of IW with Fed beating Nadal in the SF and taking the title
2) if he reaches the final and Nadal doesn't win a single match (not sure this is possible though, lolz)

But lolville believes the chance of Fed reaches #2 before the FO(not after Miami as you have calculated) is less likely than Nole winning 8 straight slams.

That is actually likely. However, Novak winning the next 8 slams straight is still more likely than Federer being seeded #2 at FO 2012.

But hey, on the other hand, when has lolville said a single sensible thing about tennis in his umpteen gazillion posts?

he might sneak off the tournament soon enough: didn't you see his coughing all the time in the IW final?

he should focus on the GSs

And is just as likely as Nadal winning the next three slams.
lolville also said that too? He underestimate Roger after reiterating the same stuff about Fed playing peak tennis.

None. The classic one is Nadal is in decline but Roger is playing peak tennis.

Sneak off from Miami? I don't think so because it's not a small event. Playing Miami is not going to effect his playing for the FO. Not sure what you had in mind.

Fed said in his presser that he's looking forward to a week off. I can understand that, hes basically been playing since Doha straight. He'll have time off after Miami and I dont think he'll take Miami lightly.

I think so too. He's got 2 weeks off between Miami and Monte Carlo and if he decides to skip MC that's another 2 weeks off

Based on what he said, I expect him to skip MC. Don't see him take 1 week off, than immediately go to MC etc. But then again, he can practice in Switzerland till the very last day, than even go to MC by car. Will be interesting. I thought he'd go to MC anyway, but dont expect him now

You don't skip tournament if you plan to move up your ranking, especially a big event like Miami. Why play 2 atp500 but skip Miami? Poor choice selection.

Um do you mean Monte Carlo? Federer sometimes skips Monte Carlo because it's not a mandatory Masters event.

Could happen, really what matters is where they stand for seeding at FO and Wimby, and that's going to come down to MC, Rome and Madrid. Fed has lots of room to improve in those, but Rafa could also pick up points in Rome and Madrid if he can overcome Djokovic.

Fed's schedule doesn't have Monte carlo in it. He has been playing non stop since Jan, so needs a break. If he indeed goes to #2 afte Miami, he can keep that with good showing in Madrid and Rome.

Fed could overcome Ralph in Madrid, not sure bout Rome. He should make atleast semis and maybe finals of Miami(on current form), think he'll beat Novak in the semis, should they meet. MC nobody knows for sure.

One problem area for Fed is that Ralph could gain on him by winning Rome and Madrid if Djokovic doesn't turn it up.

It's just so vital for Fed to be seeded #2 for RG to ATLEAST give himself a realistic shot at the title.

Well, if Federer's seeded two at the FO he could still land in the same half as Nadal. So don't get your hopes up. Anyway, I think Federer got pretty close to Rafa in last year's FO. Had he won that first set, I think he was on his way to outplay Nadal there due to the better balls. Not completely out of the question he beats Nadal there, but beating Djokodal back to back will be tough.

Wouldn't that be the ultimate letdown in all of history?

Please don't garner thoughts of Fed beating Ralph in RG, surely you've had enough of Fed's trolling by now?

Its about 25 days off, He is not playing MC

Is it just me or is Nadal declining??

Rafa beat Federer in 4 sets at the 2012 Australian Open, despite Federer being in top form.
So Rafa's 2012 Australian Open may have been his best Australian Open ever.
At the 2009 Australian Open Federer won more points than Rafa.

Fed would already stand at no 2 if he beat Nadal in the AO SF (even if he ended up losing in the final afterwards).

Seems like Federer can't beat Nadal in the slam events. Pretty big problem if you ask me, for someone who wants to be number one.

He can. Look at Nadal, he is not the same player who pulled amazing shots on the run anymore. His body is wrecked. The power game we used to see is less frequent now.

Yet he beat Federer in 4 sets at the French Open last year and Australian Open this year. I wonder how many sets they will play at this year's French Open

Well this thread went' swimmingly didn't it? :)

There's a difference between COULD and WILL. If Fed didn't screw up against Roddick, he would literally have 1 obstacle - Djokovic in the semis. Now that he lost points in Miami and decided to skip Monte Carlo, he would have to play extremely well in Madrid/Rome to reach the no 2 position.

No one said Fed WILL take over the #2 seed. *******s shouldn't take words out of context.

However, getting to #2 is more plausible than one ******* claim Nole is likely to win 8 straight slams(that would total up 13 slams for Nole).

Sorry TMF. But that person you are referring to is not a Rafa fan. A troll perhaps but not a Rafa fan. No fan puts down your player like that no matter how "realistic" you are.

doesn't matter. still has to get through 2 of the top 3 players in the world. still probably gonna have to face ralph on clay!

Nope, and that's exactly my point. If Fed gets to no 2, there's a 50 % chance that Djokovic and Nadal will be drawn in the same half, thus Fed would have to go through only 1 of them in the final (baring some upsets of course).
