Murray could join Federer, Connors, Borg, and Nadal

If Murray reaches the finals at the 2013 U.S. Open, he will join Federer (2), Connors (2), Borg (2), and Nadal as the only players to reach 5 or more consecutive grand slam finals that he entered. Something about including his name with those greats doesn't sound right.

And that is? Spill the beans, troll.

His career is not done yet. The guy has a lot of achievements ahead of him, not behind.

I like Murray but the part in bold is a caveat that cannot be ignored. Just not the same as making 5 consecutive slam finals. I hope he has one good clay season and wins RG someday.

When Murray's back isn't playing up he can put a fairly decent attack on clay e.g 09/11.

I'm assuming the OP is taking account of Connors and Borg skipping the AO on multiple occasions, hence why the comparison is valid. But the thread starter is prone to making statistical errors, so I can't be sure unless I check myself.

It is amazing that a player like Sampras only managed to reach 4 consecutive Grand Slam finals excluding the French Open ONCE in his entire career (1993 Wimbledon to 1994 Wimbledon.

yes, I am taking into account missed Grand Slams. It is looking at only Grand Slams entered.

I see. Connors skipped FO and Borg AO. So Fed and Nadal's achievement stands apart. Djoko would have had the record too if not for drawing Fed in his half at RG 2011 !

I am surprised that someone as consistent as Lendl doesn't have this record. I just checked that his streak got broken at AO '87 by Pat Cash again, of all people.

Murray is a really talented player, who has suffered because of the era, but as pointed out, you cannot just exclude the FO, especially because even a healthy Murray doesnt make the final

I agree. Some clowns extrapolate this further to claim Nadal won consecutive Wimbledons in 2008/2010 by omitting the glaring, obvious fact he didn't play in 2009. They were not consecutive, nor did he defend his title.

If you don't play, tough bikkies for you.

I think Murray can pass even Federer in this record by doing his usual of skipping FO for the next 5 years.

Seriously, this is not even a thread.. How can you seriously compare Murray with Fed when someone willingly skips FO .

Seriously, this is not even a post. Murray had to retire during his 2nd round match in Rome with a back injury. The back injury meant he was not fit to play the FO a week later. He did not decide to 'skip' it just for the fun of it! It was only the second time in 6 years that he was forced to withdraw from a Slam because of injury. Try getting your facts right before you rush to indulge your rather self-righteous opinions!

Bottomline, Murray skipped major. Federer is playing around 50 consecutive. So, no point comparing "continuous" finals records, when you pick and choose tournaments you play.
