The winner of the French Open will be David Ferrer

And that was no strategy. Bellucci pancaked him today. Congrats to him.

I'm still not worried though. Murray got waxed by Garcia-Lopez about six weeks ago or so, and got to the finals of Miami(I believe).

Searching for a silver lining in a very dark cloud? Bellucci is dangerous on the dirt...up a set and a break in Madrid '11 vs Djok before imploding, but the Spanish Terrier had tourney wins on the red stuff prior to the twin US MS 1000's.

As to your Murray "parallel", the Scot regularly gets waxed in IW (D Young '11). DF could bounce back but not enough to secure your bet.

I agree with stringertom. You should just call off the entire thing, before its all set in stone. Ferrer's strength is hardcourt more than clay, his clay wins are in tiny events this year. At least don't create some false calamity as some do (eg someone in family fell ill or gf got injured and you have to spend that money urgently to treat them). Bow out as a gentleman, or lower your bet to a smaller amount.

Hey, all I can say is that if he's willing to do it, I'm not going to say no.

I genuinely would love to see David Ferrer win the French Open, I don't think it'll happen but it would be one of the best tennis moments ever if it happened.

He just needs a bit of luck with the draw I guess.

You really should have quit while you were ahead with that brilliant Roddick over Federer prediction. If Ferrer does pull off a miracle, I'll never question anything you predict again. But it's just not happening.

Even with the most favourable draw conceivable, he's almost certainly going to need to outlast at least 2 (if not all 3) of Nadal, Djoker, and Murray. In addition to being superior players with more weapons, these guys all happen to be about 5 years younger than Ferrer. If he had the offensive ability of someone like Federer or Isner, there would be a slim chance he could overcome his age.
But not with his grinding style.

Related question: when was the last time (if ever) a man aged 30+ won the FO? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Agassi won his at 29, so you might need to go way back.
The guy who beat Agassi in the 1990 Final, i believe it was Andres Gomez or something

Ok so Ferrer has a:
2nd round at MC (got a bye)
final at Barcelona (played well, and gave Nadal a good match)
Quarter at Madrid (lost to Fed 4 and 4)
Semis at Rome

Clearly if he were a serious contendor he would have 1 at least 1 of those titles.

Murray can't even win a major - let alone Ferrer. C'mon, guys.

You mean, 'C'mon, Jakemcclain'. Since he's the only one giving Ferrer more than 0% chance to win a major ever.

After Ferrer loses in the third or fourth round he will say: "Haha I was just joking, did you really think I was being serious about this? Just wanted to have some fun with you guys"

Wanna bet. I don't play like that.

Okay you have a gambling addiction! In that case, respect to you for making such a bold statement, even though you will be wrong. If Ferrer wins RG, I don't know what will happen. You might be called the modern Nostradamus and become famous.

Jakemcclain.....are you saying that Ferrer will beat Nadal. Nadal will be one of the seven matches he plays. No way anyone but Djokovic and Federer are beating Nadal. Though they themselves only have a slim chance.

Yes I am, and I have my reasons.

All of you will get my answers whether I win(which I believe will happen), or lose. Believe it or not, there's a method to my madness.

I am a Federer fan, but I would love to see Ferrer winning a slam. Any slam, really. Ivanisevic-style.

He is a good person, a true fighter on court and an honest worker outside of it. He goes and dies out there. I would like to be friends with him. I always get slightly heartbroken when he loses a close one, even if it is to Federer himself.

The guy probably represents everything that Nadal fans love about Nadal, just without Nadal's mannerisms, tricks and habits.

I can see why you think Ferrer is a good choice, since he is consistent and tough on clay.

However, he has never done so well at RG.

Also, with the new balls they implemented last year, that can only favor big heavy hitters... Ferrer doesn't have the most over powering serve, and he while he has improved his inside-out forehand, he's really more of a counter puncher.

I just don't see how he's going to get past guys like Djokvic, Federer, and Nadal. Chances are very likely that in order for him to win the tournament, he'll have to beat 3 of the top 4 men in succession. While maybe he can get by Murray on a good day. There's no way that Ferrer on any level can get by Djokovic, Federer or Nadal on clay. Especially not in a 3 out of 5 set match, where those guys might not be at there absolute best, but can weather the storm and find their form after an hour or so... It's also worth mentioning that Nadal/Federer, and Djokovic defend better than Ferrer. So the only way you can really beat Djokvic and Nadal these days is to just simply outhit them, which isn't easy. You might see it done in 2 out of 3 set matches, but hardly anyone outside the top 4 is outhitting Djokovic/Nadal in a Grand Slam. This explains why you haven't seen either Djokovic or Nadal in the final of a Grand Slam since Australia 2010, and even then it was Fed/Murray...

This logic combined with sheer probability is why I made the bet I did.

You have 1 person that can win you the money, and that guy isn't named Federer, Djokovic, Nadal, or even Murray. I have 127 other guys in the draw, and I only need a combination of 2 of them to win the bet.

:)

I'll understand that if you lose, you might flake out or drop off the face of the Earth. Hell, I'll even understand right now if you want to call it off. However, I'm not backing off, so don't think that's what I'm saying.

More importantly, without Nadal's mental strength.

I remember when Ferrer broke through in the top 5 or top 10(don't remember exactly) he said in a interview that he believed he was the among the worst players to reach that top level or something along those lines. Doesn't have enough self-belief, he does have great abilities, perhaps not a great serve, but everything else is top notch.

Put it this way man. If I drop off after I lose, a bus ran my ass over. It wouldn't be of my doing either.

Good luck man. No backing off on my end either.

There's something about that that I respect, and it probably explains the 65% or so tournaments he's won after the age of 30.

There's two different ways of saying that. There's the regular qualifier and lower ranked way saying "we want more money because we'll NEVER be at the top", and then there's Ferrer's way of saying "I feel I'm the worst to get to that level".

Saying it that way gives me no doubt that he works that much harder because he doesn't think he's as good as the big boys. All honesty, he's really not, but he's won a hell of a lot more, and against some more talented players in the past 18 months, because he works that much.

Ya he called himself the worst player in the top 100 in history when he broke into that group for the first time. 2002, a long time ago.

And I look forward to a tremendous French Open. I really think this or perhaps Wimbledon are my two favorite Grand Slams. Hard Courts just seem a little boring, probably because they are so popular. It's nice to see different surfaces. Plus me and my friend are obsessed with sliding. I just seeing the players slide into shots on clay.

Ferrer winning the FO has about the same chances of me winning Wimbledon - aka, none.

For Ferrer to win the FO he needs Nadal out, as he can't seem to win a set from him regardless of many BP chances, he needs Roger out, cause he never beat him once, he needs Djokovic out, cause Djokovic will breadstick him. If Ferrer actually goes through early rounds and reaches one of these guys, he'll lose.

Granted, I would MUCH rather Ferrer win FO than the Nadal-Djokovic duo, but the chances of that hapenning don't exist.

I somewhat agree with this. Ferrer is like a Nadal done right, without the fake injuries or over the top celebrations or time wasting or on court coacthing, etc.

The thing is, he doesn't have Nadal's mental strength or leftie advantage. Ferrer is one tennis player I truly respect, because he competes, he fights, he plays a nice looking game overall. I would rather have Ferrer win a slam than Federer (though I'm no longer a Fed fan), and deffo more than Djokovic or Scandal.

You misspelled coaching, but I mean you have a right to celebrate when you win a slam, because they aren't small things. It's a tremendous accomplishment.

It's fair to say he does time waste, but all the pros abuse it, he just takes heat for it because he's a top ranked player. I won't speak about his injuries because it's not always fair to say that in every situation he fakes an injury to get a timeout. There had to be some legitimate trainer visits in his career, no?

All honesty, this one IS his one shot at a slam. The slam I mean, not necessarily this year or whatever year. Older he gets, the more he'll get jacked at Wimby, and he's NEVER been good there to begin with, the US Open has been trouble(five years ago was his last semifinal, and he's lost his window at the Aussie. The next non big 3 to take that one will be Murray. Clay's his bag, and he can win on the stuff. It's his chance at a slam.

Just one reason though. As I said, I'll give all of them when I win, or when I lose.

And Big_Dangerous, I look forward to this French Open too. I'm looking at all the qualies right now, and I see a few possibilities of getting to another round, and basically changing their careers forever. Win three qualies and a round at a major, and you can punch your ticket and keep it punched if you play your cards right. Interested to see who does it this year.

Wow, I misspelled a word, sue me. English isn't my first language and its pretty darn good considering that.

As for celebrating, I didn't mean a victory, but rather points or UEs by the opponent. I lost you when you said "all pros abuse it" - seriously, do you watch tennis? Have you ever seen Federer abuse the time rule? I can understand taking a few more seconds for a breather after a long rally, but Nadal wastes time like no other and does it intentionally, knowing he will get warnings and yet not caring about it (cause that's who Nadal is, doesn't care about anyone but himself and his trophies).

I'm so glad you're back(I'm puzzled why the mods are taking out anti-Nadal fans one by one like yourself,Bigforehand,DFTW,aphex a bit earlier, but are keeping NSK and the likes). I'm in total agreement with you,Magnus. You say it like it is and I truly appreciate that(not that it matters to you but still I'll say it anyway). I hope your stay isn't cut short again, seriously.

FWIW,I heard from a source that Ralph is wearing pink for RG. What do you think about that? :)
