should Murray pull out of RG

I somewhat agree. There's no point in playing if he's both injured and out of form on clay this season. Besides what would a 4th round or QF appearance change in his career?

I don't think it's worth it.

I'm beginning to think he should. He's defending semi-finalist points but if he's not up to it...he's not up to it and it really does seem that he's not up to it!

It's a real bummer for us Murray fans but the important thing is he gets himself fully fit again or he'll just keep exacerbating whatever injury is currently holding him back. In this form, I just can't see him getting past the early rounds at RG.

What a shame after his great start to the year. But there it is!

Back injury doesn't sound good and I don't see what his stake would be in RG, he's not even in the first 4 favs imo and coming in with a injury surely won't help his cause, in fact it might damage his WB run if he's not careful.

his clay form has been mediocre at best and he is not going to lose his no4 spot so I tend to agree with ze German, get ready for Wimby and Olympics

He just lost to Gulbis in straight sets at the Mary-Cohr exho, someone who he has a 4-0 h2h against.

He should withdraw from RG, take a couple of weeks r&r, then make sure he's OK for this year's long grass season.

If you say so, then I guess it would be the right decision.

You're right that there's not only W but the OG in London, too.

I agree, Becker hit the snail on the bed with this one.

I hope he is fit and plays RG :(
If he doesn't play, we will be stuck with a boring semfinal where Nadal plays Tsonga or Ferrer or Berdych. (Assuming Fed-Djoker will be in the same half as usual)

It's even worse..it's 5-0 (unofficially 5-1 now)!

I agree (as I've said elsewhere). His form has been poor in every single clay tourney he's played this year. Don't see how he can suddenly turn it round for RG. He should forget the 720 points he'll lose, he's still secure at #4 and he should try and get into better shape for Queens, Wimby and the Olympics. They have to be the important goals for him this year...and the most realistic ones!

I hope you got my memo about who is winning RG this year.
Is this Murray or Nadal we are talking about ?
Well, you got this right !

Becker usually does his hitting in the closet. He hasn't figured out what beds are for.

He is not a contender anyways.....so he should pull out......go practice early on the Grass!

Lendl will give advice on pulling out of RG and peaking at Grass.

I am feeling self-destructive - will place money on Murray beating Nadal in the FO '12 semi's

I watched their semi from last year on Eurosport last night - was closer than the scoreline suggested - Murray created 18 break points in 3 sets.

Everyone should pull out of Richard Gasquet NOW.

I am all for alternative lifestyles but this is getting too much.

Get shot up to the eyeballs with painkillers and minimise movement by going for winners early.
Worked alright last year.

Back problems are evil in tennis... especially the way the game is now played. I wouldn't mind if he did pull out. He's probably the most painful player on tour to watch. Djokovic/Murray Aus open was the worst match in recent history.

...That said, I would like him to win a slam...

That's the spirit ! I hope he makes the finals so people can shut up about how bad he is on clay.
well to be fair he was kinda bad this year so far

but i dont think he will ever pull out of a slam unless hes severely injured. cause every one he pulls out is just one lost opportunity for him to finally win one of the things and you never know how many more chances will come. even if its RG

Exactly. Federer almost pulled out of Wimbledon 2003 with a back problem and who knows how the rest of his career would have turned out if he hadn't won that first slam.

Really? 1 250 title, 1 slam semi, 1 500 final, first man to beat Noel, 1 MS1000 final prior to the clay swing. Granted he has been less than stellar on the dirt but I think it's a bit harsh to say he's been bad so far this year.

For all that has been said about Murray's "mental barrier" at the slams.....he is mentally tougher at the slams than nearly every player on tour. So even if he has an injury, he only needs to win a set before his opponent loses self-belief and drops their level. Murray has reason to fight through any injury knowing that his opponent isn't far from folding. That is the real barrier - the barrier between the top 4 and everyone else.
