Even though Nadals the favorite, could Federer or Novak win it

I know that Nadal is the clear favorite. I just was reliving in my head what Federer had to do to win the french open, including coming down from 2 sets against Haas, and having to go through Del Potro.

I always feel that Federer has a better chance during tournaments that he has to struggle a bit.

As for Novak, well he certainly showed why he's number 1 and has been winning slams. The old Novak would have lost that match in 4 sets, instead he saves 4 match points to go on and win.

I know people are saying, well Nadal's had it easy. Well that's never true. I always argued this when people said Federer had it easy. IN the end you still need to win 7 consecutive matches to hold up the trophy over a 2 week competition where weather changes and court condition changes happen.

If Nadal does win, he will have earned it, and earned a piece of history at standing alone with 7 FO titles.

In the end we should all enjoy these players because in less then 10 years most likely the top 3 now will have retired.

Rolaids WILL win it,and as long as he is still in the draw,Nadal is not the favorite. Even if the jinxers around here say otherwise.

omg, you are incredibly persistent.

Djokovic nearly lost today facing multiple MPs but he is clearly going to win the title?

And Nadal doesn't have a chance (en route to set a record for fewest games lost in a major)?

Seriously lol

I'm not seeing a huge difference between the Novak who's reached the semi finals yesterday, and the Novak who won the Australian Open earlier in the year, so Novak could win it IMHO.

I don't think he will now that Nadal has beaten him the last two times they played on clay, but he could.

Then again so could Federer but we've seen how this story pans out many times.

Plus it would be quite a surprise if either Almagro or Murray/Ferrer take sets off Nadal, whereas Federer and Djokovic have already lost 5 and 4 respectively, that's got to have a toll on them by the time they get to Sunday.

That's my diplomatic answer anyway :)

Even if that's true, the problems is that this is clay and Djokovic already lost to Nadal twice on clay.
He had it very tough so far with brilliant display at times, but no consistency needed to tough out Nadal on clay. I don't like his chances with Nadal playing the best clay tennis since 2008.

Fed would be slaughtered by Nadal in the final.

Djokovic has around 40% chance the way these two have been playing.

That's right. He did the same thing at the USO last year. He is unbeatable in slams.

Nope because even if he makes the final,Rolaids will be there waiting for him. We all know the outcome of a match between the two of them in a slam, and it does not equal a Nadal win.

Come on,you do not seriously believe that. That's just ridiculous.

Federer has no chance whatsoever vs Nadal in the final. In fact this year the match would likely look more like their 2008 final than their other finals here. Federer`s only chance would be Ferrer or Almagro or Murray by some miracle taking out Nadal for him.

Djokovic has an outside shot vs Nadal in the final if both make it. I am not sure Djokovic will even get past Federer though.

I like Djokovic alot more than Federer and I am not worried about Nadal losing to either in his current form, so would actually prefer Djokovic to win that match. I also know how ****s will treat every RG runner up finish to Nadal as an unoffical RG title and will trumpet that as some unwritten fact, so even more reason to prefer Djokovic to make the final. However after seeing both play today Federer has atleast a 50% chance to win that match.

I love Federer, but I don't see him making it past Nadal if Fed makes it to the final. I am certainly not the biggest Nadal fan, but there is no denying his dominance on these courts

Nadal's the favorite clearly, but Novak (if he faces Nadal in the final) still can draw on the fact that he knows he can beat Nadal. Sure he's lost twice to Nadal this clay season but he still has the 7 straight finals wins against Rafa from before. Plus Nadal's recent two wins, while significant, weren't Grand Slam finals. So that tips the scales back to even I think. If Fed meets Nadal, yeah I think Nadal will win, but I like what I am seeing in Federer this year, more than I've ever seen. I see heart, determination, never say die. I think the Federer we see this year actually will be able to take advantage when his opponent goes through periods of sub-par play. In the past, against Nadal, even when Nadal wasn't playing great, Fed would choke. But not this Fed. We'll see.

Love your wording, C.

First you are sure Noel WILL win it, but you still aren't sure whether he will be in the final :D

Anyway, you are wrong. I am 1000% sure Federer is winning RG, as long as he makes the final, of course.

From what we know of the past and what we know now... Nadal has the highest change of claiming the title.

He has not struggled to demolished his oppersition. He looks very fit and basically his matches till now have been one long warmup session.

His in the right frame of mind to win also coming off the back of these wins. He must be thinking his the **** right now and anyone trying to take that away is going to be sadly defeated.

Unfortunately Fed won't win against Nadal in final. It's not IW or London where Fed will just blast winners for 2 sets particularly of backhand to never let Nadal into the game.

In clay court of French, all Nadal has to do is pump high balls to Fed's backhand all along..and in between some inside out forehands to keep him tight.

Soon his backhand will break and he will start making forehand errors by going for too much

Now if we are using last year as a reference point, then he is not unbeatable, because he lost last year to Fed, so I guess it's a done deal then, Fed v Rafa final, and we all know the outcome of a match between the two of them in a slam, and it does equal a Nadal win.

I dont think anyone in the world can take 3 sets to Nadal on clay
It just seems impossible, especially with the weather conditions in Paris, lots of humidity and heavy

Novak and Roger have a puncher's chance. But on this surface, Rafa is Drago. Perfectly designed and engineered to dominate.

Djokovic's biggest problem is Federer. If he gets past Federer I expect him to beat Nadal in either 4 or 5 sets.

After watching what unfolded in Austalia it would not surprise me if Nadal never beat Djokovic again in a best of 5.

People need to remember that best of 3 and 5 are very different beats just look at Nadal and Federer.

Nadal will always have a chance to beat Djokovic over 3 sets but over 5 - WAAAY harder.

You only have to watch Nadals body language when playing Djokovic - all those grand slam defeats have caused major baggage.

Great to watch : )

Djokovic's slam wins over Nadal come within a 6 month time frame, so not a solid basis at all. plus we all know the outcome of them meeting at the French open and it is not a Djokovic win.

Anyway you laughed when i said Tsonga could beat Djokovic but he had 4 match points today. Novak only got through through raising his game on those points so my opinion that he would lose unless he played better was spot on. if you are genuine in anything you say its clear you have no clue about tennis, you just repeat the same line about Djokovic winning everything a d Nadal losing to everyone and sometimes by law of averages you're right. personally i think you're right just seeing how far you go before people realise you are having a joke.

Another point is you were one of the people who said Novak had an easy draw and Rafael had a hard one because tsonga was no good on clay and almagro would be far tougher. watch Nadal kill almagro. the only logical explanation for Djokovic almost losing to seppi and tsonga and Nadal cruising through the draw is Nadal is playing way better than Djokovic. either that or you have to admit that nadal's draw is a total cakewalk of players playing below abysmal. which one is it?

"i must break you"

But will anyone be like rocky, "he is like a piece of iron"

I hope so but i still expect Nadal to win.
