Tsonga-best player (to watch) on grass these years seriously

Just love his game on grass which perfectly fits for it anyway: aggressive attacking to shorten the point and a beautiful net game. Last but not least, he really enjoys himself out there. Such a shame the Brits slow down grass, it is supposed to play the way Tsonga played.

Hats off to Jo Willie, from a hardcore *******.

yeah, this semi is well worth watching. so much drama in the murray-tsonga match. murray is doing his fair share to make this match enjoyable as well.

"Dont worry about it"- to umpire's false overuling against him. True class from Tsonga. Murray'd have torn him apart lol

I am really growing to like Tsonga a lot. He really shows a lot of class, is polite, shows great sportsmanship, you can even see him saying thank you to the ball kids when they toss him a ball. A lot of those on these boards have called me racist because I express that I can't stand the Sisters, because of their horrible behavior, not their skin color. I have a whole lot of respect for Tsonga, and the sisters and James Blake should take lessons in behavior from Jo Tsonga.

Tsonga is one of my favourite players to watch, particularly on grass. I really like his net game, I love watching him playing aggressive tennis, coming in behind his serves and stuff like that. He has a lot of finesse too. I really want Fed to win Wimbledon this year, but if Tsonga won it in 2013, I'd be happy with that.

Yup, loved the way Tsonga played attacking tennis today. He's easily the best volleyer in the Top 10. He kept up the serving and volleying attack even when he was down in a game. Gotta love it! :)

are you serious?
it was worth nothing if he didn't manage to hurt Murray.
are you seriously impressed with his lame S&V?
reaching the net only to produce this terrible half volley?
best volleyer ?? please..
this clown don't deserve to be 5th.
i mean, 40 UE's?? WTF?
why bother reaching the semi's?? to outclown Monfils?
i was hugely disappointed for failing to take out Murray.
another example of having the match in your hands and simply failing.

endofrant.

There's so much fail here, I don't know where to begin.

Tsonga's volleying was unbelievable.
Definitely the best volleyer.

why be so negative. he had a good tournament. he didn't play very clutch or smart today on break point in the 4th and was streaky as usual, but the match was a good one to watch until the very end. no one is saying he is the best player, he's just very entertaining, and for neutral spectators who neither favored murray nor tsonga, that's the best you could have asked for.

well i didn't say he is not entertaining (that is, while still not winning).
i mainly argued his ability to be productive at the net with so many net hits and easy balls for Murray.

out of curiosity, which players in the top 10 do you feel volley better than tsonga?

while Tsonga might have some very good natural touch at the net, i'll say again, it didn't help him today, so that's my main point.
other players may have less tendency to reach the net, but still, the top 4 at least get stable winners or points WHEN at the net.
with Tsonga, it's going for a fail, most of the time. i'll not argue it LOOKS entertaining.

don't worry, it's not just the Murray hate. Tsonga had a crap match, giving it to Murray. i would say the same if he had played any other top player.

I like Tsonga but honestly today match was a sub par performance for him.. the first 2 sets was terrible.. he made way too many easy forehand unforced errors.. I don't think tsonga will make any break thru in the slams in the near future..

As uncharacteristically poor as Tsonga was off the ground, both his serving and especially his volleying (and half volleying) were unbelievably good today. He lost the match from the baseline. His win % was extremely high at the net.

I had no idea Tsonga could volley like that. I've seen him knocked out of two AO's tryin serve and volley. He must have worked very very hard on his net game coming into this tournament.

oddly enough, murray was getting to a lot of tsonga's drop volleys today. i wanted him to mix it up some more. but yeah too many unforced off the ground and he didnt catch fire.

point well taken. being entertaining isnt really worth much aside from being entertaining. if only the french can really break through, tsonga is the closest, but still a way to go.

the first thing that comes up when mentioning tsonga is that AO 2008 SF match vs nadal and his volleying was unreal in that match ...... But then you haven't watched that match or much of tsonga or for that matter many of the other players .....

heck, he was volleying pretty well vs djoker at the FO , just a month ago ...

Not only did I watch that match, I probably posted about it at the time on this forum!

Tsonga wasn't serving ad volleying on every first serve in that match like he did against Murray. Against Federer in the WTC this year or last year I can't remember he tried to serve and volley and volleyed badly. He tried to serve and volley against Nishikori and got knocked out of the AO this year, and the same thing happened against Verdasco in 2009.
