Hey guys I know this is alittle off topic but What is up with Ricky Baylon? I have seen him practice but never play a match and it seems that he has some of the greatest ball striking abilities but his ranking is rather low? Can someone explain what his deal is?

i agree with Socal10is Ricky hits one of the cleanest balls ,clean strokes ,strong off both sides , beautiful backhand (one hander),funny just got off the phone with his dad (June) very nice guy , he wants Ricky and my son to hit this next week so it will be nice cause we haven't hit with him for a while so ill give you a report on that beast once we hit with him.BTW he's training full time at the USTA high performance here in carson

Johnny is the type of player who can make someone play bad when he starts using all his slices and spins and angled shots, then he'll start blasting shots past you and he'll give you nothing,he'll make you work for the match that's for sure.. that was before but I think he has a bigger game now,so go check it out...

where is he playing and what time?

Lakewood 10:30... just made sure ,JW will show up..

Known his dad June since the boys started playing we were talking and he asked if we could put in some hits before the ITF next week Rickys playing and Deiton is always across the street from the HD center so maybe some hitting in the morning or so

not sure they are always looking for kids with decent games and records

well as jamesbond4 noted,Ricky's ranking is rocky at best.. he's a 10th grader so he has to compete with older guys for the same scholarship money.. tough for him to see a pro career..

I saw him hit a few balls with JW down at winters and was incredibly impressed with is backhand and basically all other aspects of his game so I was shocked when I saw his tennis recruiting ranking was 100 and some change

hey Brad: if you have some free time this weekend,go watch JW play against the kid who Deit lost to.. I know JW is not 100% because he didn't play that much in his high school matches recently, but if he brings his "A","B"or "C" game against the #85,it should still be something like 6-0,6-1... then you have have a clearer view of how the top 16s SoCal boys are capable of.. I like to know your assessment of JW too..

Brad: missed it by 1 game... 6-2 ,6-0...

Thanks. but im gunna focus on first round. travis will not be easy and i've been playing horrible this whole week so we'll see. Mike will still be tough. pretty much anybody at this point will not be easy but if i'm playing well who knows well just see how it goes.

I hope this crit will help your game..

they're on with the "rain delays" so it's 3 hours backed up, I really don't see the tournament finishing up today.. another un'finished SoCal tournament.. how many is that for "it never rains in Southern California"...

I was walking around checking out different matches... sometimes sitting on the westside bleachers .. be very careful with those high school matches... they will cause you to have a burn out right before the sectionals and big summer events.. and you'll feel spent for the whole summer.. totally not worth it if you're a serious tournament player... and you seem to play a lot of week end and National tournaments too ... all may be too much and you'll feel stale for big matches ...

Im amazed at how much some are playing between HS and practice then tournys ,,""Hey SO CAL Dominance"" how much do you think you put in a week "on court" with tennis during a busy week/month??

between high school 230-5 4 times per week, after highschool 5-630ish 2 times a week and weekends. on the busiest month id say 20 hours per week when there is no tournament. when i have a tourny ill take a day off of high school toward the end of the week and play maybe an hour just to keep some timing but give my body some rest. im taking today and tomorrow off because i dont have a tourny for 2 weeks

most high schooers are having NOW about 2 - 3 team matches per week .. so if you're playing singles that's 9 sets plus 2 hours of practice on non-game days... and for most part, all high school tennis programs sucks because the coach doesn't know didly crap about real tennis,so a tournament player has to endure that mentality .. I'm seeing more and more kids who play tournament tennis ,not participate in high school tennis.. the good high programs will give a lot of slack to tournament players, but usually the P.E. coaches are a real "richard"

Wow do you think thats the average players time here in SoCal "tourny players" like your self?? we have been discussing turning up Deits time on court up by a couple hrs! i kind thought players were putting in more time then us on average but didnt think we were being doubled and that is alot for any player especially going to school.

gotch - ya as for high school not in the works Deit wants to try to make it in pro tennis he knows the levels just keep going up so he will have to have all the edge he can get , he does want to be a marine bioligist so his pick on college are SC, Florida gators, or hawaii that will be the back up plan or vise versa . BTW what is your choices on college and career

college i'd like to go ivy i have good grades just gotta do good on SAT's plus tennis will help. i want to go to a good academic school. my ultimate goal is to be CEO of a fortune 500 company but that will obviously take alot of hard work individually. the thing about tennis is it helps alot with life lessons. it teaches you independently because ur the only one its not a team sport. it teaches you to work hard on ur own because no one on a team can save u and its the same in the business world.

see i disagree. i was SHOCKED at the # of good ppl playing high school tennis this year. Spencer Simon, McCAll, Giron, McMorrow, D Lin, JW, Kehrer, Jamin Ball from Norcal W/D from Spring Nationals consolation to play high school tennis, J Huang, Harrison Richmond, Reo Asami, Daniel Hoffman (#1 18s in Norcal). the list goes on and on. O and SoCal I have a good Spencer Simon incident again: First of he lost to Billy kenny 8-5 of Waccamaw High in South Carolina. Then lost to Jamin Ball of Menlo in Norcal 8-3. (I lost to those same two 8-5 and 8-1.) So Simon and Billy Grokenberger were playing Dan Hoffman and Jamin Ball in doubles and Hoffman, who hooked me and my partner also, hooks them on match point which ties it up for Menlo. Grokenberger is in disbelief that they called it out. meanwhile, Ball and Hoffman are waiting at the net with there hands out waiting to shake hands. BG and SS refuse to shake their hands. SS says "You know what its cool" slaps both their hands acts like he's gunna go to his bag and leave, turns around, points at Hoffman and says "**** you" then smashes his racket against a poll, it breaks, and yells "f'in hooks" Classy guy

well if Spencer did that at the end of the match that means he was toying around and was bored the same words were coming out of his mouth against D in there match .funny way of not caring

hmm interesting.....the yale coach says he only recruits players with good sportsmanship but u say hoffman(whose going to yale) was cheating....guess bad judgement there maybe

i gotch ya Deit played him and from what i was told there was a lot of big hitting between them ,Deit told me on ad-out he would nail it every time take it back to duece he said he was solid on the serve but the language got going after lost points!!

Actually I said the good programs leave alot of slack for tournament players.. there are a bunch of schools that have knowledgable coaches ,but on the majority, most high school tennis coaches have know clue about tournament tennis, thus tons of the tournament players start then quit high school tennis, and just focuses on the weekend tennis..
and about S.Simon,I heard he was academic in-eligable for high school tennis.. a lot of people says he's changed for the worse... acts like a "richard" and pretends to be a gangster .. LOL crazy ass white boy gangster with a tennis racket.. this is what I see all the time with these academy kids, they all think that everyone is cheating them and cannot take reality when someone calls a ball out.. they think every ball they hit is magic and has to be in or something..

SoCAL r u gunna be at carson for spring ITF? Spencer will be there. i want to draw him lol:)

Deiton told me he was in shock at Nadals size he said he was tall but not as big as he thought (arms) but cut ,, these guys have no idea of what it takes to get to the top we do and were shooting for it yes it is a tough road but so is my kid ,,,,A questuion for TCF and Tenniscrazed when is this economy gonna turn around you guys have the crystal balls BTW im pretty good friend with Peter Smith and was around during the time when he was trying to sign this kid named Querry any thought on why he didnt go to college thats what everyone was telling him!!!

The economy is NOT going to turn around.

i believe your correct i think were gonna see some of the most civil unrest and rioting soon if this does not turn around. Get ready for the worst ,go to a web site of a man name David Wilkerson and read his urgent message quite interesting !!

Great, now I once again know what to do, the opposite of what guys like you think. In 2006 when all were touting real estate, we sold our 2 Florida houses for double what they are worth now. When the stock market was at 14000 and people were buying, we sold and bought gold at $500. When gold hit $1000 and every housewife was throwing gold parties, we sold our gold.

Now that the masses of people like you are saying the economy won't ever come back that probably means the opposite once again.

You can tell that a kids going to a D2 college from a video and here-say , You cant tell what a junior is gonna become your other statement , what is your position again about predicting the future of juniors?? LOL as for this subject,I hope I'm wrong this is the country i live in and am proud of but anyone with a basic understanding of math will know we are not sitting good ,the people living in bliss "well everything is good"

"Shalom", but officially 13 April 23 ,,so call back in 2 weeks lol but it really stinks they would not allow him in this ITF at Carson, watching some of the competition it looked wide open for him only a few guys in there that were impressive overall ,

No Problem you have a great dad and being down 5-0 is not a bad thing , i think its a good thing to dig yourself out of a hole ,, one thing i like about your game is how big you hit, but using a slice once in a while is not a bad thing as a defensive move to get out of trouble ,, watched some of the other top seeds not to impressed with some, to much dinking, only fooling themselves for the next level, watched Spencer Simon he was sharp, hit a clean ball and then all the lights went out at match game. take care of Biz

I will have to read through this whole thread and see who said what LOL ,how the heck did you find this thread with such a great title ?

i like your honesty no offence taken "

Oh I hear that Brad. I have about 15 tennis parents who tell us their kid will be number one and they believe it with every fiber in their body.

I see your boy's body type, balance, strokes and shots, footwork, and general athetic ability....and I combine that with 2 coaches with good track record who have seen him in person. And an educated guess is made.

I see your boy somewhere between a small college player as the worst case and a mid level DI program as the best case. The later would be if he continues to develope his game to the best of his potential.

You see things through the foggiest of glasses, those of a tennis dad. You look at a video of Boluda and comment on his height and build, then post a video of your boy. In your mind your boy and Boluda should be discussed in the same sentence....or worse, you may even think your boy is the better prospect because he is taller.

A 1000 tennis pros would look at Boluda at 14 and your boy at almost 13 and 1000 of them would rank Boluda in an entirely different world than your boy.

Seriously, if you can't see that Boluda is 500 times the player your kid will be in a year....or 2 years...or 5 years.... than you are truly not thinking rationally. Same with Tomic. At 12-13 he was also on another planet tennis wise than your lad. And he will still be on another planet in 3 years and in 10 years. There will never be a day on earth where your kid can compete with Boluda or Tomic at any age....those are just the cold realities of tennis talent.

And the other reality is that even if Boluda grows to 6'1, even with all his amazing talent....his chances of making money as a top 50 tennis player are still rather small. Same with Tomic. They still would need good health, good luck, and the intangibles that make up a money making pro.

But at least a scout could say Boluda and Tomic have a chance, their dreams have at least a dose of reality to them.

Reading this I was wondering what ever happen to Boluda ? If anyone knows please post

^^^^ Boluda reached a career high of ATP 500+/- got injured and I think he's struggling now. Honestly at 5'5" now that he's 19 he's going to struggle. Check the ATP website.

As far as Tomic...well we know the story on that one.
