Nadal out of WTF.

It does not change a lot of things as far as WTFs, but it's a great advantage for the Czech Republic in the DC final!

In an interview announcing the news, Rafa had this to say:

"I' decide to try cycling since I got so much experience with it over my tennis career. Cycling allow me to perform very well at Australian Open and of course French Opens. I suppose you can blame cycling for some of my losses and poor showing after USO, but that is life, no? So anyway, my best friend Alberto (Contador) and me, we sit and talk and he convince me to go for it. He said "Rafa, lets bring back glory to cycling (the sport), you and me - we can do it for Spain and people will forget about Lance. Who knows, maybe you win 7 Tour De France with my help, no? <smiles>" He also say I can rest my knee during race since I have 2 pedals, when left knee hurt, I just use right foot alone"

Gonzo_style did not say he can win DC alone, he said that it would be a great advantage without Rafa playing. Try to understand what is being said next time.

Not every country have their best player playing DC all the time.

*******s only see a disavantage for his team but ignore that it goes both way.

Rafa owns you pretty bad. Without Rafa you would have nothing to live for, no?

Most people thought Rafa's body would break down and he'd be retired by age 25. Lucky for you he's not retiring but recovering his knees.

*******s don't support Nadal. However I'll always defend Nadal from the old-timers who disparage Nadal's achievements. You guys should be thankful that I'm around.

But don't forget, its a good thing when the old-timers disparage Nadal, because it shows that Nadal has got into their heads. I like to see it :D

I was only defending Gonzostyle with your snarky comments. He was not disparaging the Czech team in anyway and was stating the obvious that without Nadal, the Spanish team has lost an obvious advantage. But obviously, everything positive about Nadal is such a pungent flavor to you.

(SIGH)
They are not playing on clay but on indoor hardcourt which is Nadal worst surface. So no Nadal is a disadvantage is a HUGE exaggeration.

Nadal out of the WTF? Tell me something I don't know, like Nadal missing the Australian Open next year:twisted:

You can sigh and cackle all you want, but Berdych has not beaten Rafa since 2007. 11-0 overall, 6-0 on hardcourts dude. Indoor and outdoor.

This is the worst tennis news all decade. We won't get to see Nadal get his butt kicked multiple times in one event.

99% of us knew this was gonna happen, the great regret should be from Monaco that could have gone to WTF if he did better in the last 2 tournaments he played.

LOL we all know why you defend Nadal, you defend him to make Federer's results look bigger! :)

not surprising, but again everyone pretty much
knew he wouldn't be there and yet it only gets announced now.

Expected, just finally official. Even if he would play it would be fiasco for him, his worst surface vs top guys after months without real ATP level matches would mean that probably even Ferrer would beat him in straight not talking about other guys. It would be humiliation for him. We will see if he will play DC i don´t think so.

Nadal never had any intention whatsoever of playing Paris or the WTF. Why would he? He would get humiliated at the WTF and not win a single match like in 2009. He's going to perform poorly in Doha and go out in the 4th round of the AO although I think he's going to skip both and try to make a much bigger deal of his "injury".
What was more injured than anything was his ego at the hands of Rosol. Before that devastating loss which saw Nadal's world crashing down, he was dominating on clay and gave zero inclination of any injury whatsoever. And along with Federer winning Wimbledon, Nadal has lost even more motivation knowing full well that trying to break let alone reach 17 Slams is going to be a massively tall order now that ALL of his momentum from the clay season is gone, nobody is afraid of him off clay, and Murray has now entered the fray officially as a legitimate threat alongside Djokovic in stopping Nadal from reaching Federer's achievements.
The competition has become too fierce even for Rafa himself. And he's getting old and his body is breaking. Younger, stronger players are making the climb.

He paid a huge price for winning against Federer...
His knees are over, while Fed is still #1 at 31.

He paid a huge price for TRYING to surpass Federer. It wasn't worth it. Nadal should've stayed on clay as he did in 2005 and not made every possible effort to surpass Federer. His game was too taxing for his body to handle season after season.

It aint over yet Mishter, til Clarky sings the Star Spangled Banner. So, we'll wait 'til everybody in the top 4 retires officially, k.

So, you think he should focus only on clay, and not try to win Wimbledon, US open and AO???

Yeah, you would have loved it if he just rolled over and died against Fed like everyone else did so Fed could rack up title after title without obstruction. Too bad for you that didn't exactly go to plan.

How so? Didn't Federer still break the Slam record and the record for most weeks at #1?

Nadal is a legend but there are only so many comeback attempts an athlete can attempt before things just get more and more difficult. It doesn't help that he's now reached the age where, as history has shown, players are on the downside of their careers. In his case, a sharp decline. Luckily for him, the next generation doesn't look like it's going to produce a new Nadal/Federer/Sampras/Safin level of talent so he has a couple of years left to try to get a few more clay titles.
