It's a great point but there are many others. You see a lot of points that look like this one in the Djokovic-Nadal hard court matches.

by the way, can anyone tell me where this extremely short I/O-forehand by federer is in this match? I can't find the point anymore. it's just a wonderful example.

When I see AO09 final, I'm pretty sure which point it is, and I'm pretty sure I don't need to review these highlights. As a Fed fan, this is still the most hurtful match of all, and the one I'd pick over any other to change the outcome of.

Yeah, I knew it too. I've watched the highlights via four different broadcasters (UK, USA, France, Russia), and in each case the commentators have audibly gasped at Federer's crosscourt forehand. I've absolutely no idea how Rafa was able to reach it, and I think it might be the single greatest stroke I've seen which wasn't an instant winner.

I'm more of a tennis fan than someone who roots for an individual, though. I do wish Federer's form hadn't dropped off so anti-climatically in the fifth set, spoiling a match that until that point had been even better than Wimbledon '08. But I'd rather watch Roger lose matches like those, than win as one-sidedly as he did from '04 to '07.

Also, I agree that Connors' rally vs Haarhuis was another amazing point.

excellent point! nothing like a night time match at the USO with 99.9 percent of a 100 percent capacity crowd on your side! i'll have to give .1 percent for paul haarhuis whose parent(s) have been in attendance and his coach.

Pet, I think what you are failing to understand is when you talk about the greatest point ever doesn't simply mean 2 players hitting great shots, though that's a big part. What it comes down to is the "Moment" and the time and space these points happen. In 1991 Jimmy Connors had played a number of 5 sets and even coming back from 2 sets to love down to win. At age 39 going against players 15+ years younger then him and to make a run to the semi-finals of a grand slam is simply unbelievable. If you can tell me any player, today, capable of making that kind of run and playing that kind of point I'd be glad to know. Non of the players today can compete with the heart, desire, ability to move a crowd in any way shape or form than Connors. If you ever had the chance to grow up watching him you would already know this. Bottom line, the greatest point ever is the one that you will never forget, and if you can still remember that point you mentioned over 20 years later like I have then we can talk.

I also feel the same, its my favorite Federer shot even if wasn't a winner it was a genius shot.

Nadal and Federer always make great highlight reels, even if the actual matches aren't too great. When they play each other, the sheer awesomeness of the highlights destroys minds.

I'd say this match was the real turning point in their rivalry, as well as the greatest of all time.

It was cold that night you can tell by the people wearing coats. fed does poorly on chilly nights , see his match vs. Berdych at USO adn this AO vs Nadal. Fed is most vulnerable at night, temp is workign against him.
