Rafa, of course.

I was surprised to see that Monaco got bounced out in straight sets in the second round (I assume he had a bye in the first).

Tsk tsk, Monaco.

Monaco has wrist problems, he had to be infiltrated to play davis cup, and ruffin is a really good player, he will be top 40 I think this year or more.

I'm looking forward to this, it's been far too long since we last saw Nadal.

I'm also interested in seeing how well he adapts to the rule changes regarding time between points. I suspect it won't be as big a deal as we might think, but it'll be interesting nonetheless.

damned... you got me: i thought that he was really back and was playing against the nadal. :?
now we're talking about non-fake injury:

coming back to viña del mar... delbonis ?
i saw him playing tipsarevic in madrid last year... this young lefty argentine didn't look bad. might not the easiest opponent for the nadal in a 1st match...

hopefully peak delbo will show up and tear the nadal into pieces as peak delpo would.

Sergei is NO easy win for Nadal. He is very talented and has a promising career. He is SON OF Sergey Bubka who is the GREATEST pole vaulting in history of pole vaulting. He is the GOAT of pole vaulting.

So this guy has some good genes. Also I saw him play on hard courts. He plays a lot like Marat Safin. Very powerful and precision game. Not sure how he will do on clay courts though.

I'll be watching from here at work if I can find a stream, when does this start?

Edit: yes, there are streams on livescorehunter

What time does it start, eastern or pacific time ? and I like this guy Sergei. Its gotta be tough to live up to his father's expectations. His father is the GOAT of his sport and National HERO in Russia.

Nadal isn't in body cast, seems to have full functionality of all his limbs, etc. so obviously injury was fake.

It's too bad Nadal just wasted 6 months of his prime and 2 Slam opportunities. These months don't ever come back. The window is small for physical players like Nadal to really accumulate the titles, especially with the intense level of growing competition. After beating Djokovic 3 times on clay, even with the Wimbledon loss, he should've been there at the USO and AO to try to crack Djokovic even more. Instead he had a 6 month holiday while Djokovic won a Masters, a WTF and a Slam and is now even more confident and playing better than before. On top of that, Murray's just made massive inroads on the top players, having won the Gold and the USO.
Nadal should've been there trying to stop both of these guys from gaining confidence and improving their games.
Now he has to not only work double hard to improve his own form but work even harder than that to try to gain any kind of edge on the younger guys who've elevated their games during his absence.

He looks a bit heavy footed out there today, but I'm sure he'll look a lot better as the match progresses.

I'm actually rooting for the guy today :)
