Mats Wilander is one genuine dude

I really like Mats - he seems to try hard to give honest answers to questions.

Here's a short interview of him talking about kids and trying to turn them into professional players:

Another one of some young girls asking him questions, and again, you'll see how thoughtful he is in answering:

Good guy. I have long known that he was a fantastic all-around player with a great head on his shoulders, but didn't realize how insightful he is on all things tennis.

Those were really nice. Thanks

No worries, glad you enjoyed. :) My wife and I had our 7-year old in a few orange ball tournaments before realizing that they were totally unnecessary. He has plenty of fun in his class and hitting with me, so we'll avoid the circus that junior tennis can be until he actually wants to compete as a young teenager, if that day comes at all.

His mean comments about Federer showed his real nature. Sure he will be pleasant in clinics when you are paying him.

You only need about 20,000 posts, or about 18,500 more. They way you and TCF where going at it, I though you woud be there by the end of the month.

had that one guy Mr. BB combined all 7 of his screen names before he got banned he would have been there 4 years ago !!! That guy was legit 2 of his screen names were friends with that TennisCoachFlorida guy and 4 were his enemy !

Another thread derailed?

Anyway, really enjoyed the 1st you tube video.

His conversation about kids enjoying themselves, burn out, and ten and under was pretty interesting.

Did anybody notice that John McEnroe was hitting in the background near the end of the 1st video?

Matts gave an hour clinics to players and parents during last year's Easter Bowl. Both my son and I were really impressed with him. He offered many good advice and tips. We only remembered two, one is that you should play an out ball in practice to get better workout, especially when you play a player who is worse; two is that you should take every point/match play seriously, treat it as a real point/match in a tournament match. I have expanded his 2nd tip to include the use of singles sticks in our practice and privates. I have yet to see another family, clinic, or a coach that does what we do. Saw a few pros practiced with the sticks on. It costed $20 a pair. One could also make them for maybe $5.

Why would anyone play without the sticks.. (if you´re not playing doubles)?
