The rising 5.0 with proper technique and right equipment can safely challenge anyone up to the 6.5 level.

Around 1987, working in Sausalito (1500 Bridgeway), I got to hit with IllanaKloss, Rosie, and a few of their friends....who used to be on the women's tour. I hadn't played tennis in close to 10 years, not one day, then.
Rallying, no problem. I was less consistent for sure, but had plenty of power to keep them on their toes.
Serve practice, they wondered why I was not playing tennis. Not WTA, but men's Open.
Volleys, they could fire their hardest shots, and if I could just touch them, advantage me.
They didn't bother to volley when I was at the baseline.
I was totally out of tennis shape, had not even touched a racket in close to 10 years, and I was in my 30's by then.
Since the courts were across the street from where we worked, I got to hit with them every week for 3 months, before they moved their business to SanFrancisco.
They were out of tennis for 10 years, but so was I. VERY close.

Oh, they were off the pro tour for 10 years, I don't know if they had been hitting before we met.

That's about as relavent as saying you saw Jeff Gordon at the local Wal-Mart last week and parked your car quicker than him so you might have a shot at winning the Daytona 500

LeeD

Maybe...
We all practiced serves, overheads, groundies obviously, Rosie hit lots of volleys, Illona hit very flat groundies, which are easy to volley....as does Date. Rosie had more variety, more top, more slice, and still had pinpoint placement.
I don't think I saw any shot that was not normal for A/Open NorCal mens.

GRANITECHIEF,

if i remember correctly you have a pretty good serve, was it a non-issue playing the former pro? was it a weakness?

Tennis Balla...
You know I respect your tennis.
You were a 5.5, right? We both played over 12 A/Open tourneys, right?
So we got old. So you're still a 5.0, right?
Are you saying you cannot stay with a top 75 WTA pro if you used your big serve, avoided groundies, and constantly took net position?
You're 6'4" or so, huge reach! You have a ATP overhead. Your groundies, while not nearly as consistent, is much stronger, if you hit for direction.
Now imagine YOU as a 19 year old, still training every day, and rising to 5.5 the very next month.

I was a 7.5, and taught Federer all he knows. Nadal wanted lessons as well, I helped him out but then he thought I was too expensive and kept it in the family by going back to Toni.

LeeD

Yeah, truth hurts, doesn't it?
Like... no chance you can outhit a top 75 WTA player from the baseline.
So that's ONE playing style you would have to avoid, when playing a WTA pro.
I guess that autmatically means YOU would lose to a WTA pro when you were in your prime, doesn't it?

Question is, can your S/V game, chip and charge, net play, hold up against a big baseline hitting girl.
We know the girl wins if you stay back.
We know you can pressure her on your serve at least half the time.
We know you can pressure her on her serve at least half the time.
Can you hold up your end of the equation?
Intangibles....are you looking at her legs? Are you shell shocked playing a pro player?

Am I?
You're a 4.5 right now, right? You can hit pretty even with most Div1 women, singles players, right? They're 5.5's.
How much of a stretch is it for them to play a Q, make the main draw, and win a round or two?
And if you started winning in 5.0, STARTED winning, you're still a 5.0, but you're a whole lot better than you are now, aren't you?
Think of the implications.

..or, are you going to say..... "AMAZING experience hitting with a top 75 woman, I'm just flabberghasted and shocked"........:):)

I'm an optimist but date krumm is a top wta pro. Seriously leeD. Get a grip and realise non pros have no chance. Their job is to murder you on the court.

OK, I will get trashed by a #75 WTA pro. I'm a 3.5 singles player. I can hang with ANY WTA doubles pro, for sure, because I can hang with 5.5 Div1 guys in doubles.
Assume a 5.0 player is much better than LeeD. Some 5.0's aren't 50 year old fat guys who work 60 hours a week, have 4 kids, and play once a week.
Some 5.0 guys are 20 years old, play tennis 6 days a week, 3 hours a day, and train like it's for real.
Which 5.0 are you picking to do well vs a WTA #75. Not talking No.10 Date, we're talking number 75 Date.

It was my most effective weapon by far. I bailed myself out of quite a few BP's coming up with good ones when it counted.

LeeD YOU CANNOT HANG WITH WTA PLAYER IN DOUBLES!!!! My 11 year old daughter will DESTROY a 3.5 male and she is no where near the WTA yet.

Laugh at the vid if you want, I know I did....
Or, you can contact RobFL, or Deepak....you can find their personal messaging # from travel section of 4.0 in NorCal...... and they will say my serve is quite decent for any 4.5 level of tennis.
TennisBalla, that guy in the van cannot throw far. His short stunted takeback and just one step is a QB throwing motion, or a catcher's. Look at javelin throwers for a long distance throwing motion.
MadDog, unfortunately, that story is true. The girls were doing some promoting business upstairs of our windsurfing shop.

Also today's pro tennis players, both male and female, are way ahead of where players were 25 years ago. Not even close. Global competition has raised the bar a ton. So hanging with a WTA player in 1987 is much different than hanging these days.

TCF, I agree.
GA Tennis... if a 4.5 man has trouble with my doubles game, and RobFL is a doubles player mainly, I think I can handle your daughter's game pretty easily.
I already mentioned I play doubles against a couple of NorCal ranked 12 and 16 year old girls. No contest for me.

Lee d my little girl beats all the 4.0 men around here.

She might beat me in singles, but no chance in doubles.
While I might be hobbled by injury and old age, I can still play pretty even in 4.5 doubles and do pretty decently in 5.0 doubles.
A mentioned I lost (5 and tiebreaker) to a 3.5 who got raised to 4.0 the following week. I'd beaten him maybe 6 straight sets before, and was particularly hobbled that match.
Remember, I did used to practice regularly with a couple of WTA pros, and that was not ONE practice, but scheduled weekly practices for over a year.

Who would your doubles partner be? Me? I take Dali, a rising 4.5 with a Samprassian Racquet and hands that are softer than worn leather.

LeeD, your serve looks good at 4.5 for sure, but it's not going to trouble a WTA pro regardless of ranking.

You are absolutely correct.
My serve at age 62 would not bother any WTA 7.0 woman's player.
But it would greatly bother a 5.0 woman player.
I claim "high 3.5" in singles.
Would you believe it if I told you I served a bit better 35 years ago?

You know, I never smoked even 3 puffs in all my life, within a day anyways.
All my life, people kept calling me a "spacecase" or "zoned out", and I was straight as contractor's level.
I do admit I lost to two 3.5's. One I had beaten breadsticks and bagels for over 40 sets, the other I'd beaten 1 and 2's for over 10 sets. The second got promoted to 4.0 league play the following week.
As I always say, "you are only as good as your worst day".... and people see your worst days, and always forget your best days.
Still doubts? You can always contact RobFL, who IS a solid 4.5 player.

say what??? the topic of this thread is 5.0 Male player vs Date Krumm. you had asserted a rising 5.0 male could beat a WTA pro. from there you tried to support your position saying you could hang with former WTA pros 30 years ago. so how does your serve bothering a 5.0 female even remotely related to the original topic?

it is truly sad to see senility setting in at the young age of 62 right in front of our very eyes.

My 5.0 honey Sarah would demolish your serve Lee and she plays 2 times a year when I beg her to come out and play. She destroys me in singles most of the time too.

I used to be a LeeD fan but you have sunk to such unfathomable lows its just absolutely astonishing and creepy.

Sad. Fuching. Panda.

honestly, i don't think anyone cares about your rating or record. i think we're just trying to get the record straight about the topic of this thread. for any 5.0 male to think they could beat or even compete and not get blown off the court against a WTA pro just underestimates the talent and skill of the pros vs rec players.

it is truly sad to see senility start to set in at the young age of 62 right before our very eyes. truly sad.

5.0 males can usually beat 5.5 females.

No WTA top 100 player is a 5.5.

Therefore, no 5.0 male can beat a WTA top 100 player.

see what I did there? :)

Mad Dog.... the serve you see in video is me at 62. That serve bother's no one above 5.0. Talking women.
What you don't see is the serve of a 27 year old LeeD, one who can actually run and jump. Wind that clock back 35 years, and maybe my serve was better? Ya dink?
You know I claim "high 3.5", so I don't think I can beat or give a competitive match to DateKrumm.
35 years ago, I practiced weekly with several WTA pros, and it was agreed I needed to hold back on certain shots and back off on the serves when practicing with them.
